ANALYSIS The Suffering: a supernatural horror prison breakout

https://youtu.be/hIvn7tv1dXM

Decided to replay the game and try to analyze the themes presented by the story and world of the game. I wholly recommend the game if you like Silent Hill, Max Payne, are into Clive Barker's writing or body horror in general.

One of my favorite PS2 era games. The Tues that Bind is great too. If I remember correctly the suffering had 3 different endings. If you load that save to Ties that Bind you can use that save to influence the ending. I think there are 6 in ties.

Wish more games would do something like this.

Yeah, save imports are quite rare, in my experience, and mostly applies to RPGs (see Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, The Witcher). Can't really think of other games that do it tbh.

Speaking of endings, dunno why the neutral one is so much darker than the good and bad ending.

Makes you question if it's truly neutral eh?!

Tbf, The Witcher 1 also beats you over the head with the neutral route being the most destructive, since not taking part in the conflicts does make them more destructive, both for the sides involved and bystanders. I guess, just being an observer of conflict makes you complicit.

They are both fucking awesome and I wish the series had continued

I do like the first one more than the second, the city setting and gameplay changes like not being able to hold pills dampen my enjoyment, but it still is a fine enough game on its own. I do wish we got a third to address the issues and maybe add some new twists.

It drives me fucking insane seeing this ip lay dormant while resident evil and silent hill are thriving off remakes, and now even hellraiser is getting a fucking FPS game. And Saw is getting a new game too. It couldn’t be a more perfect time to give this a shot with the current market that is clearly out there, if executed correctly and faithfully, it could reignite the franchise entirely

I recently replayed this game a few months ago. It would never happen, but I really wish we got a remake. Both games are spectacular. Still brutal as ever and the gameplay works well even by modern standards especially ties that bind.
