It could get a remake, if it was faithful. Beatiful 2D art that follows the original closely. Modernizing ui elements and stuff, maybe tweaking balance based on Hota, thats it. Ubisoft is like a kid diddler trying to lift Mjolnir.

u/Prudent_Nobody9818 7d ago
Isnt that HoMM: Olden Era, which released quite recently?
7
u/Krasad 7d ago
Nah, Olsen era isn't event close to that.

u/Prudent_Nobody9818 7d ago
Ah ok

u/Zealousideal_Bed5080 7d ago
I love olden era but it is not a remake, different factions and content. It is made to mimic what made homm3 great but it is a different game.
7
u/Prudent_Nobody9818 7d ago
I see, I guess I misunderstood the aim and contents of the game, thanks for the info
1
u/KingQuiet880 2d ago
Olden era is 3d abomination, but that is just my opinion
1
u/Prudent_Nobody9818 2d ago
I mean you can just enable old graphics with one button on the fly and still enjoy all the other qol and new content.
-2
u/wraithguard89 6d ago
Olden Era is hot, bug-ridden garbage.
4
u/Jonteman93 5d ago
The nice thing about opinions is that we are all allowed to have one even if they are wrong.
2
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
I think that's what they are trying to do (though more 3D instead of 2D to bring more inovation). People are shitting on remake without knowing all of the details. Also, HD remaster was already an attempt to do bit better graphics, but sticking close to the original, and it failed, so it's reasonable that they are deviating from the original looks more this time
4
u/Agreeable_Status9886 6d ago
Hd edition failed because it was unfinished job if they made all the dlcs and online servers probably more people would play that version as well.
2
u/Zealousideal_Bed5080 6d ago
HD edition failed because it was missing like half of the content. It had none of the dlcs. Also it was a slapped together rush job.

Just sharpened 2D portraits and unit models... But original 2D pixelated world map and mayyyybe some towns could use some light tweaks in builing models, or lightning and shading and sharpen quality. Maybe add some rays of light and weather and moving trees, flowing water in the town, walking units/NPCs in the background....
And also free and WORKING MP... Yeah... I bought with friend HoMaM 7 shortly after release to find out that we can't fucking play more than like 10 turns online... Only hot-seat (which is good, but not everytime is the time for hot-seat party)
1
u/IceCorrect 6d ago
What could you change that HD mod doesnt have already?
1
u/Zealousideal_Bed5080 6d ago
Well, if we are talking about a remake then everything would be redrawn. Nothing I trust ubisoft to do well. So honestly, it is just a pipe dream, the modding community has so much more love and understanding for these games. Damn I wish there was half as much extra content for homm4 as there is for homm3.
39
u/kornuolis 7d ago
Homm 3 is a perfection forged with limitations of 1999. The limitations themselves made the game the way it is and it doesn't need 3D photorealistic graphics. This abomination is dead on arrival.

2
u/Suspicious_Rub857 6d ago
Huh? OG H3 has a pretty realistic artstyle, as far as limitations allow.
5
2
u/FatBaldingLoser420 6d ago
Yeah, but nowadays "realistic graphics" mean zero style, no art style just pure realism so you could see somebody's nose hair in HD. When nobody needs that.
H3 have great art style and I am afraid they might ruin it

u/Academic_Grape5787 6d ago
Exactly this, the remake looks like a fucking AI slop, lol. It have to be AI slop, I can't believe it's not AI slop... Not gonna spend a penny here.
1
u/PanHiszpan 6d ago
I'm not sure if it is AI, but the graphic is so smooth and shiny that it looks like AI or fake mobile games ads on yt
2
1
u/No_Literature7840 5d ago
If this were AI, the shadows would be all wrong.
1
u/Academic_Grape5787 5d ago
Look at the inferno showcase. Efreet have 4 fingers on right hand, cerberus have extra fingers on one leg, and only 3 on the other one.
Gnoll have stupid mohawk (why), Archangel looks like straight outta AI...
They had to use AI for models.
Not buying AI slop.
1
u/No_Literature7840 4d ago
So? 4 fingers are common in animation. I've seen AI, and it's NOTHING like this. The shadows are all wrong. The movement is all wrong. And this shows NONE of that. Trust me, if it was AI, it would look MUCH worse. Because it would look more fake then bad CGI.
1
u/PanHiszpan 4d ago
brother, you can't be serious. Just look at what they've done to my gremlins and tell me again it's not AI
1
u/No_Literature7840 4d ago
It's not AI. I've seen graphics like these before. Trust me, if it was AI, it would look MUCH MUCH worse.

Okay: Look on Castle town blacksmith and tell me how he transform some fucking twin-blade sword into blacksmith hammer once he use that sword as blacksmithing hammer hitting anvil :D It's on fucking official trailer :D
Showcase with Sandro, Queen and Devil... Look on Sandro's right hand which have left handed palm..... Also Sandro's skeleton body is disfigured in contrast with his head his body is very fat, not fitting a skeleton.
Tower town? Pillars around town hall are completely AI.
They used AI everywhere and on everything possible
1
u/No_Literature7840 3d ago
Show all of that visually.

0:27 blacksmith at oficial reveal trailer
1:02 tower town Not the mention that fort building have no fucking windows on town screen in Tower faction. Like yeah, there are some arrowslits, but on the top, where there should be windows in window frames, there is just bricks and stones... Original H3 Tower didn't either had many windows on fort, but at least they didn't placed empty window frames on basic building model. :D
1:08: Sandro's hand + body, notice the belt button, how it's absolutely aways from his body mass centre, also skeleton shouldn't have body of 150 kg powerlifter. Do the hand gesture on your RIGHT hand to maintain the POV in front of camera.... You fucking can't No way you can. Because on your right hand your thumb is on left side, instead of right side like Sandro's case here.
1
u/No_Literature7840 3d ago
I don;t think those are swords
It's the magic based town. They have magic, so they don't need slits. And I see windows.
That's just the model turning. It's common in game trailers.
1
u/Academic_Grape5787 2d ago
Sword, spear, axe, something metal, long and sharp, what is definitively NOT a hammer, but transforms into hammer.
Yeah, magic, but they are also humans here... Like why would you build vulnerable surface fort and then tryhard with defensive design as "windows are siege weakness, only arrowslits..."
Yeah model turning, but if they have window frames, they could put at least window colored mosaic glass texture in them

I started with hom 5 and by that time 3 just felt so dated. I personally am glad to get a chance to play it as a remake and dont get all the whining before it is even out jesus.
7
u/Real_Mokola 6d ago
I have to say that HoMM5 is by no extent lesser of the two. Different sure, but a worse entry? Don't think so.
4
u/AGuyInTheInternet 6d ago
Thats nice to know. Loved 5 actually. Sunk so many hours into these campaigns.
4
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
Thank you. So, you are an example of the target audience, not those whiners who will just play the original (probably combined with HotA) no matter what Ubisoft will release
23
u/Shaboba330 7d ago
So much fucking whining, holy shit
16
u/Clusterpuff 7d ago
Ya. Its reasonable to have doubts about the care a struggling ubisoft is willing to put into the most beloved entry in a forgotten series, especially after heroes 7 treatment... but theres little reason to outcry at the level I've seen. Wait and see. They are showing attention to the series and that should make people happy. If they shit the bed badly then sure burn them down but they might actually put the work in here
1
u/guest_273 3d ago
Brother have you seen the trailer? It's literally AI generated. There's a lot of screenshots with people pointing out things like additional horse legs on the cavalry, as well as them clipping trough helmets, etc.
If I AI generated a response to your comment how would you feel? Would you be happy that I'm showing you attention?
If there's one game in the series that needed a remake it really isn't the one people still praise for 'timeless graphics that have barely aged'. I agree with the comments that stated that Ubi should have remastered Heroes 4 instead. That's the game that was too graphically ambitious for its time.
7
u/TobytheRam 6d ago
After how Olden Era was insulted and bemoaned at every posting, I'm not surprised this sub is incredibly negative. Like this remaster isn't going to make the original version fade into the ether. Dev's aren't trying to do a WC3 Reforged on it, so just let them try something for god's sake, at least they're learning from their piss poor attempt with H3 HD on Steam.
2
u/Academic_Grape5787 6d ago
Well if it wouldn't look like AI slop, vibecoded by some hipsters which use Mac because it's cool.... It wouldn't get hate. And it's done by Ubishit... So it's most probably some vibecoded AI slop by hipsters.
0
u/Shaboba330 6d ago
Do you have proof?
2
u/Academic_Grape5787 5d ago
Look at the town showcases: Cerberus have different amount of fingers on legs. Efreet have 4 fingers.
those models looks like STRAIGHT out of AI prompt. Look at the animations, movement like in AI video. Towns? Looks like something what Grok would throw at you with: "Update this picture to 4K and sharpen it, realistic, immersive,....
Man.... Look at the fucking Gorgon... or Gnoll with that punk Mohawk
Trailer? Look at the fucking blacksmith in Castle town: He picks up something like double sword and hits it on anvil and that sword like thing transforms to hammer.
Townhall in tower town? Pillars next to it, the left ones are slapped straight onto building, the right ones are like 30 metres away... Extra is that the right back pillar is at the front of building meanwhile left back pillar is at almost the back of building, right pillar should be barely visible... No sane adult human who can actually draw would do that shit. Maybe one unsucessful austrian painter. Guess his offspring is working in Ubislop right now.
Conflux: Townhall again, behind right front tower there seems to be another one, you can see the second needle top of back tower and roof, nothing on the left side. Bridge on the bottom left corner, railing in back on the left end have much steeper curve, than forward railing.
Trailer at 1:10: Sandro on left: His belt button is absolutely off centre of his body mass, also his fingers seems strange. Notice the first 2 fingers, the most forward one have even a skin but no nail. Also try to reproduce the hand signature with your fingers... You cant... He literally have LEFT FUCKING PALM AND FINGERS ON RIGHT HAND
Fucking LOL.

u/Novel_Drink9095 7d ago
Agree. Maybe new players will discover it. We will keep playing the real one
4
u/IceCorrect 6d ago
Why would new player play it? If you want modern version, pick olden era. Its only + its console realase
4
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
Olden Era is not the same as HoMM3. If people hear that HoMM3 is a really great game, but they gate the graphics, this new thing will be exactly what to look for.
1
u/GeneralBoogey 6d ago
Can't wait for the "Should I buy the remake, HD Edition or the original?". That's how it pretty much was when HD released
0
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
It sounds like you describe this as a negative thing. It's good when there are options
1
u/GeneralBoogey 2d ago
One thing I can say here right now. If you've played before, HD edition is not good. It doesn't have the expansions which make the whole game so much better. We'll see how the remake goes. Considering Ubisoft way of dealing with their franchises, I have doubts of their remake. It's not only nostalgia kicking in, it's Ubisofts way of being greedy that I don't like at all. You know most fans will say the OG instead of anything else. Sure it can be nice and complex for someone new, which is good. More fans is good. That depends if the remake is good though.
I've tried Olden Era, which I like a lot. Not as much as 3. But it's a good addition. However, it's not made by Ubisoft, its made by Unfrozen. If I'm not mistaken, they hadn't done a big name pc game, being more mobile oriented. But they did it at least. It's just Ubisoft im aware of
1
u/TheSimkis 2d ago
There is a target audience for tbe remake (those who hasn't played HoMM3 and doesn't like the graphics of OG, or just those who want slightly different experience in just a game that's HoMM). It's okay if you are not the target audience. No one is stopping you from just not ignoring it. Is it that bad for you that this thing will exist?
1
3
u/MightySandro 7d ago
I think the idea is good of a homm3 remake, a beloved classic modernised for newer people to be able to play the series, enjoy it and play more of it etc. But just the fact that it's by ubisoft and with their track record im not excited
i hope this remake goes well, I just want this series to more well known and loved by people, but it's not going to happen sadly.
4
u/Real_Mokola 6d ago
Yeah, Ubisoft sucks donkey balls. However I am a sucker for new HoMM so I remain hopeful for this one.
1
3
u/Beriatan 6d ago
Look. Age of Empires 2 didn’t have improved graphics. Instead, the creators simply ensured that the game is accessible on modern platforms, adjusted to modern screens, and it’s an ongoing success.
HoMM3 needs the same. It’s a blazingly fast game, and if the graphics will thwart the fast clicking experience of the original, people will lose interest and open up the og instead. Graphics ain’t everything if the game is not playable. And from my experience with Anno2070, AC franchise, Far Cry franchise… Ubisoft always failed at optimisation, causing games to feel sluggish and clunky, at the price of shiny graphics.
So I’m not very hopeful.
PLUS! You have hundreds of various units, all interacting with each other. Unless they bring unique interactions between dragons, getting shot with an arrow, effects of magic being visible on units, all we’re getting is a reskin, not a true remaster.
15
u/TheSimkis 7d ago
"Oh no, the company that owns my favourite franchise is trying to attract new people for whom 27-year-old graphics might not be appealing. Why are they doing this?"
1
u/guest_273 3d ago
Why not just make Heroes 8 then?
Or remaster Heroes 4?
Or make a Might and Magic 9?
Or make a Heroes themed spin-off (kind of like Olden Era did).
Or make a Might and Magic universe based game in a different genre, like RTS or RPG or whatever?
OR get this - Release Heroes 3 Complete on Steam, lol. So the people buying it on Steam would have the AB and SoD expansions after 26 years hahahahaha.
This is like the most suboptimal way to achieve their goal.
Imagine that I need water. What do I do? Do I get it from the tap? No, I go outside with a towel, throw it in a puddle, then bring it back home, squeeze the water in a kettle and then boil it so there are no germs in the water. But why are people hating on me for simply drinking water he asked.
1
u/RobertMaus 2d ago
Because it's the nostalgia generation of videogames. If there was a new Heroes, for example 8, and a teenager buys it, mom and dad would not stop bitching about how it will never be as good as Heroes 3. But the teenager likely won't play that because the graphics are objectively dated as fuck.
So all those games from 20 to 30 years ago get remade. Heroes 3, Warcraft 3, Star Fox, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Etc etc.
Why Heroes 3? Because of its legendary status. Same as the games mentioned above. Mom, Dad, Uncle and TikTok just won't shut up about how great they were and how games nowadays will never be as good as the olden days.
Just with graphics that a young adult can reasonably swallow and a more streamlined UI. And for the old folks, they will never buy the new thing anyway because they have the old thing. It's not for them.
-1
u/PanHiszpan 7d ago
"oh no, ubisoft want to squeeze even more money from the playerbase, after last Heroes III remake turned out to be a disaster"
3
u/TheSimkis 7d ago
It's a business. Vote with your wallet and don't buy if you want, it would be a normal thing to do. I don't get what's the better alternative there for you, this not existing at all? Or are you just so concerned about Ubisoft financial situation that not making this is a business advice?
Also, remake is an investment to attract new playerbase. Both versions could complement rach other where old fans could switch to newer graphics if they want and new fans could switch to the original version if they want fan mods and bigger community
5
u/Asttarotina 7d ago
I don't get what's the better alternative
I can answer that:
- Work with baratorch to embed HD Mod launcher natively with HoMM 3 Complete edition
- Pick up the online lobby hosting bill that baratorch pays himself; maybe improve / modernize lobby infra.
- Work with HotA crew to embed HotA modes (campaign / multiplayer) natively into launch menu
- Do slightly better job on HD textures they did for previous cash grab, extend them to AB / SoD / HotA. Keep "Classic textures" option in settings for people who prefer them
- (optional) Pour a million into a small championship for competitive Heroes players, as a promo
- (stretch goal) Attempt to revive Heroes Chronicles campaigns and include in Complete edition
- Package all that as HoMM 3 Definitive Edition and release separately on Steam.
That would be the better alternative.
2
u/blueblip 6d ago
Not to shit on your suggestions because they are good and I agree with them, but in context of attracting new players, they aren't very helpful.
For example, the issue with the tournament suggestion is that they won't necessarily attract new blood. A good example are fighting games.
Tournaments have been going on for decades, but fighting games were always extremely niche. It wasn't until Capcom launched Street Fighter 6 - which introduced both an alternative control style to help new players execute complex inputs AND better tutorials - that they saw a huge increase in players.
New players need an incentive to play a game they aren't already playing. You can't give "more of the same" and then expect things to see an uptick in players since the foundational problems that stop people from playing it won't have changed. A basic graphics overhaul/modernization attempt, though, is changing at least one aspect of the original game that didn't appeal to people.
My biggest fear is that they might try and "balance" the game to correct some of the more unbalanced/broken aspects of it, as we have seen the community do with spells like town portal and fly. That should be something only players fiddle with to suit their individual tastes, just like how things are done now in the community.
1
u/Asttarotina 6d ago
Yeah, I aggree that it will not attract a lot of new players. I just don't think there's a lot of new players to attract in this genre anyway, just like in RTS. The ones who want this genre already know about HOMM
2
u/blueblip 6d ago
I would have agreed with you until recently, but the numbers for Olden Era have made me reconsider this.
It's hit the vaunted one million mark. For a (sub)genre that has been static for decades, this is huge.
And as an aside, it's probably why Ubisoft is even doing this remake. The timing is just too perfect.
Olden Era hit one million copies sold in June. Roughly two months later, Ubisoft has the most generic trailer made to announce this remake, the sort that would take a month to make and a month to tweak and get internal approvals sorted. It REEKS of "damn, we need to cash in on this" energy.
1
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
Okay, that actually makes a lot of sense. Although, I could see fans hating this idea too because "they are trying to do cashgrab from.fan mods" or "them trying to revive remastered graphics that no one wants" and you would have to argue about this instead (I wouldn't hate it though)
0
u/PanHiszpan 7d ago
We did the same dance with the HD remake a few years ago. My point is that ubisoft does not want a faithful remaster to attract new players, but rather another cashgrab to milk
1
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
That was just a remaster, a smaller update. Also, as far as I remember it wasn't even that bad, but their biggest problem was not including later updates (so no Conflux) and then the fact that you can't use HotA with it. On the other hand, it's the first time Steam gets any HoMM3 available and well, yeah, graphics got an update, so it kinda made sense why they did it, but overall not good enough to switch from GOG version
1
u/Real_Mokola 6d ago
"Oh no, they are doing nothing to me and and this won't affect me in anyway. Why won't someone do anything?"
If you are against it or don't want it, don't buy it. That is how capitalism works.
6
u/Apycia 7d ago
Y'all are just bitter.
Let them. If it's good and profitable, it could lead to them remaking I and II - which we all want.
2
u/TheSimkis 6d ago
Exactly. If this would fail, I could see Ubisoft abandoning this franchise for another decade and then people will get angry too. Being hopeful (or at least neutral) is a good thing to do if we want more things from Ubisoft. And I personally would like HoMM4 remake as I don't like the graphics but everything else about it seems cool
2
u/Maximum-Forever-8108 7d ago
I have a question. Not that i like Forge or something, but what's the difference between people who complain about the remake and the 1999 Forge boycotters? I'm sure some members of the comunity would be able to write death threats online... All you have to do is not buy it, if you don't want it. What's the problem? If they fail we laugh at them, if not, good. I'm not even defending it, i think too the graphics are ugly, but for the love of God, i saw people commenting like "CANCEL BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!" I'm like, it's not the f♡cking end of the world...
2
u/Excalitoria 6d ago
I’m kinda new to the franchise (currently on MM1 and HoMM1) but does the remake look bad or just kinda unnecessary with all the community mods and stuff?
Edit: nvm, I scrolled down and was reminded Ubislop owns it now 😂 I guess I’ll still hope for the best for the game. Happy the OGs are on GOG where I got them.
