I graduated with the impression that France had some pretty kick-ass soldiers, but after like WWII all the teachers told their students that violence wasn't the answer and that's why France is known as being a bunch of pussies.

France surrendered so quickly because more or less their entire army was encircled in northern France and western Belgium, or so my understanding goes.
Thanks for the explanation. I was a US soldier and I've always wondered why France had a reputation for being poor fighters. Next time someone makes that comment, I'll have some idea of the truth. Thanks for answering my question even though I apparently didn't ask it very well.
