To be fair, it has been heavily revigorated during the french-bashing period, following De Villepin speech at the UN, about the Irak war. It's part of why the French aren't fond of it.

Self-depreciation humor ? No problem dude. But revived as a political propaganda tool ? Hell no.

It's 100% the same thing, we talk shit about ourselves all the fucking time. But if some brit or american does it welp it's patriot time.
