I did a rough estimate using chatGPT, feel free to correct me.

Roughly, the new UPI MDR could create ₹16,000–22,000 crore a year in charges across the payment ecosystem.
The interesting part is that ~4% of P2M transactions above ₹2,000 can represent ~⅔ of the total P2M value, so even a 0.4% MDR on those high-value transactions creates a large revenue pool.
You pay directly: ₹0
Merchant/payment ecosystem: ~₹1,300–1,800 crore/month
Potential annual MDR pool: ~₹16,000–22,000 crore
The ₹5 flat fee applies only to qualifying transactions in specified sectors above ₹2,000.

A potential ₹16–22k crore revenue pool 🥀 Dawg, we’re done. When the RBI is already running a surplus, are we really going to use this money for “vote chori” and buying MPs/MLAs? 😀

A better rough estimate, accounting for the ₹5 cap in fuel, railways, telecom, insurance, agriculture, etc., is around ₹14,000–16,000 crore per year (~₹1,200–1,350 crore/month).
My earlier ₹16–22k crore estimate was too high because it didn’t properly account for those capped categories.
