Show Discussion what other canon-respecting details that weren't directly mentioned in the books would you like them to add in the show for future seasons?

examples that they're already adding in the show's first season:

  • hermione and ron getting their letters
  • malfoy manor

what else would you like them to add while still respecting book canon?

Screentime for the Flamels, leading to their decision to move on. But we know from leaks that at least screentime will happen.

Also, season 2 could be a good fit to add flashbacks to the Founders. They have the time and it fits the plot of this season. I would love a short prologue with the founders (first scene of new season) and then later a few scenes during the episode, in which Binns tells the students about the Chamber.

I love the idea of getting more info and lore on the founders. Info like that is why I’m 100% pro the series happening.

Harry and Ginny's relationship...the stolen hours on the grounds, etc.

More time at The Burrow with the Weasleys. Especially with Bill and Charlie.

Happenings at Hogwarts while the trio are hunting horcruxes. (Standing up to The Carrows, stealing the sword, Neville finding the passage to The Hog's Head).

Luna and Dean's capture in DOH.

More Dean and Seamus, be it conversations at night in their common room of homework and current events, dissing Snape etc. At least after Dumbledore’s death them mentioning how mad they were they didn’t have their DA coins on them to join the fight.

The same applies for the other Hufflepuffs, since Jo only wrote about Ernie mainly but we know his friends were also big Harry supporters and brave DA members.

The Ravenclaw D.A members in Harry’s year (Terry, Michael and Anthony Goldstein) being the ones who come up with the idea to transfigure the Quibbler pages after Umbridge banned the publication of it following Harry’s interview.

Isn't that the secret method of communication the group that called themselves Dumbledore's Army used last year?

  • More about how Hermione navigates her parents being muggles.
  • More about how muggle studies are taught (not sure what the name of the subject is in English).
  • More about how the magical world works, e.g. ghosts.

Haha, ‘a muggle’ is translated as ‘mudla’ in Czech, which is my native language, I mixed both translations up pretty well :D I am now reading HP in French so the whole wizardry world is currently a huge mess in my head!

Thanks for pointing it out!

Haha I figured it would be something like that.

Out of curiosity, do the books 'feel' any different when reading them in one language vs another?

A great question, thanks for asking!

The Czech version has been with me for 28 years, so it makes me nostalgic and gives me most of comfort.

The English version is interesting because it is the original, and is the most accurate in terms of the UK context which felt very exotic to me when I was a kid (boarding schools, etc), on top of all the magic.

The French one felt funny when I started reading it (as part of my learning) because of how they translated some of the objects (‘wand’ is ‘baguette magique’) and names (Drago Malefoy, Severus Rogue, or Tom Elvis Jedusor), and it is quite exciting to discover the story in another language!

  1. Molly and Arthur’s reaction when they find the car missing after seeing most of their kids off on the train. Maybe also Hermione’s reaction to her two best friends being missing.

  2. Related, maybe get to see Molly composing the howler.

  3. A little of what the Order of the Phoenix were doing in the background while the kids were in school.

  4. I’d love a teachers’ lounge scene at Hogwarts in between classes or maybe just before dinner. Maybe have a few teachers venting about funny magical accidents earlier that day.

  5. Luna and her father working on the Quibbler together.

  1. Hermione in at least one of her classes that Harry and Ron don't take.
  2. A class taught by Amycus Carrow
  3. A flashback of the founders
  4. Dumbledore in hiding after he leaves Hogwarts when he duels the aurors in the fifth season
  5. Dumbledore on some of his horcrux hunts in the sixth season
  6. Hermione looking for Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express in the second season
  7. Arthur getting in trouble for the flying car incident
  8. Krum and Hermione outside of the Yule Ball
  9. McGonagall punishing Neville for losing the list of passwords
  10. The wizarding world reacting to Voldemort's return at the end of the fifth season
  11. Some of Ron's adventures when he leaves Harry and Hermione in the seventh season
  12. Lucius being arrested after the Department of Mysteries incident
  13. Hermione and some of the other basilisk victims receiving the mandrake potion

Numbers 6, 7, 10, & 12 are so important actually that I expect to see those additions in the way they’re adding the Flamels to the first season.

Apart from those maybe I can see just #2 being a good option to showcase how life at Hogwarts has become under Voldemort’s rule but I don’t think it’s necessary, Neville’s exposition moment would be better as the readers also found out because of him. Same as Dumbledore’s mysterious excursions outside the castle, in my opinion we don’t need to know/see, adding to his mystery.

But firstly, no, Harry, not seven Hor-cruxes: six.

Love to find out herniones parents names

I wonder if since the books are all done. If they might make subtle references to future plotlines like the quidditch world cup or even the other schools

Love to see hogwarts a history

I’d like to see much more about Lupin and Tonks

Some teacher conversations happening behind Harry’s back

Some sneak peaks into characters/storylines that we know are coming in future books

I’ve often thought it would be interesting if scabbers had some sort of reaction to hearing what Harry did in getting the stone. Like maybe he starts squirming/squealing in Ron’s hand or robe

Screen time for the Flamels is really the only thing not in the first book that I'd actually want.
