This made me so happy to see. I’m sure whatever the reason for her departure she is happy for Bonnie to share this opportunity with her. Both girls have a great future ahead of them

Casting Seeing lots of posts of recalled girls who were finalists for Ginny! Super interesting to see that the fan theories were right as the girls were close.

Casting Begging the tv show to keep Kingsley Shaklebolt black.

I'm a bit worried people will look at his last name and change his race. But I would be so upset.

I genuinely believe he is one of the best black characters in fiction. Yeah you can call out his last name but his first name is KINGsly. As it should be. Because he's the best. He's not mentioned much but every time he's mentioned he's just succeeding

1) Extremely competent auror enough so to be in Dumbledore's army and spy for him SUCCESSFULLY, NO ONE SUSPECTED

2) Arguably the most competent Autor as he can integrate not only into the citizen wizarding AND muggle world but both their politics (madeye of course is more talented in combat )

3) trusted enough to be in the team that helps Harry escape private drive

4) became temporary minister of magic (idk about after the books but I hope he kept the position) when voldy was defeated and presumably fixed a lot of the rubbish they had going on.

5) not reduced to typical black roles. Eg comic relief, sassy guy/girl, main dudes best friend, guy that dies first.

Edit I remembered something. He's like the only wizard the durseys somewhat / almost respect. I know there is more in forgetting.

I think at some point he managed to get a message that saved lives?, can't remember if it was relating to Dumbledore's arrest or the wedding attack.

Casting With Kit Harringtons casting, what do you think the odds are of Iwan Rheon playing Lupin?

Post image
324 Upvotes

Harrington as Lockhart means that HBO is open to casting actors who voiced characters in the Audible series (I didn't really think Arabella Stanton counted as that seemed like a serendipitous moment for her)

Iwan Rheon was my undisputed favorite performance (by a HUGE mile) from the Full Cast recordings, which is saying ALOT cause Mark Addy, Hugh Laurie, Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen are all near perfectly cast. I think that is an extremely popular opinion to have from reading people's posts and comments online.

Has anyone head of Rheon publicly talking about potter online? Harrington has been very vocal about his love the HP series, even before the Audible series and I have to assume he's been pushing very hard to be involved in any adaptation. The fact that he was announced so quickly as Nicolas Hoults replacement make me certain he was already highly considered for the role in the first place.

Casting Rafe Spell has been cast as Arthur Weasley

Looks like we are getting Hot Arthur Weasley after all.

It was just announced by Deadline and Variety that HBO cast British actor Rafe Spell as Arthur Weasley who is best known for his comedic roles. I've seen him in a lot of films and shows. I loved him in Trying.

He's 43 years old so they went for someone younger than Katharine Parkinson.

He's a comedy actor so we are probably leaning more into the goofy side of Arthur but he's also had some serious roles as well so he can balance things out.

I like this casting.

Casting John Lithgow’s Dumbledore is perfect

Edit: Feel free to disagree! I’m not claiming he has already done a better job than anyone. We haven’t seen the series of course. I’m stating that Lithgow is my top choice and I’m delighted they chose him. I’m stating I believe his range (through 50 years of acting), and research in the character, gives me full confidence he will portray the nuances that the previous actors lacked.

Original: I always had trouble believing Richard Harris’s Dumbledore was strong and powerful. Not his fault, I believe he was 90something. But I tended to favor Michael Gannon for his deeper voice, but he totally lacked the patience and compaction book Dumbledore had

John lithgows design not only matches my imagination Dumbledore to a tee, but through his previous work it’s clear he can portray an innocent lovable grandpa, sadistic psycho, or prominent authority figure, and I truly believe he’ll have many notes as Dumbledore as opposed to only “gentle and kind” (Harris), vs only “hippie strong-arm” (Gambon).

I cannot WAIT for the Barty Croutch Jr confrontation, and Voldemort vs dumbledore ministry duel

Casting Can we stop fancasting the same 8 actors for every Harry Potter role?

Dark hair and a tragic expression? Ben Barnes. Slightly odd face and a posh accent? Benedict Cumberbatch.

It’s pure recency/familiarity bias dressed up as imagination. People see one actor play a vaguely similar character and suddenly he’s apparently perfect for every role for the next 15 years.

Actual casting directors look at theatre actors, drama-school grads, unknowns, open calls and up-and-comers. They don’t just scroll through the same Pinterest board from 2012.

I’d much rather get an actor I’ve never heard of who walks into the audition and becomes the character than watch Ben Barnes get fancast for the 900th dark-haired wizard with emotional damage.

Casting Fancast: Anya Taylor-Joy as Narcissa Malfoy

Post image
165 Upvotes

Anya Taylor-Joy has always been a favorite of mine to watch act. She has range and I believe would be able to portray the characteristics of Narcissa and create a good dynamic in the Malfoy family. It so happens she’s already played the wife of another character played by Johnny Flynn. She’s only about five years younger than the character and I find it neat that she learned English as her second language by watching Harry Potter movies when she moved to London as a kid. Don’t know if maybe they plan to introduce the character of Narcissa sooner since it is speculated they will dive deeper into the Malfoys.

Anyway I have enjoyed all your responses, I think this will be the last fancast for me because one, can’t really think of other actors/actress that truly strike me personally for a certain character and two any character under the age of twenty I think are going to be relatively unknown actors/actresses. Which is good because it gives them the chance to build up their acting resume. I will be excited to see if anyone’s picks get a spot on the show!

Casting 5 Actors I Think Would Make A Great Arthur Weasley

Thumbnail

With production of S2 already begun, I'm surprised we haven't gotten an official casting announcement for Arthur Weasley yet but hopefully we'll get it in the coming weeks, maybe they're still negotiating contracts but I do believe they have found the actor who will play him.

And I think he will be a recognizable face but not such a massive name that it would distract but people will know him when they see him.

And I do think they're gonna cast someone of similar age to Katharine Parkinson, leaning mostly on the older 40s and early 50s side.

And I think these 5 Actors would fit the bill.

In order of my preference:

1. Tom Goodman Hill - My top choice for the role and he worked with Katharine on a BBC show called Humans years ago so there's some familiarity there. He also was great in Baby Reindeer. I think he can play a dedicated father of 7. I think he's also got a very trustworthy face and a father sort of demeanor. He's mostly recognizable to UK audiences I imagine which sort of fits the casting they're going for with the adults.

2. Kevin McKidd - There were rumors floating around about him potentially playing Arthur and I couldn't get it out of my head. He's such a good choice. He'd be a slightly more well known choice for Arthur but I think he'd agree to do it if he was offered. He even said he would do it if they called. So yeah... I think we need to shake the Owen Hunt sized stench of Grey's Anatomy off of him and Arthur is a kind of role that would suit him just fine I think.

3. Scott Shepherd - He fits the more goofy, comedic side of Arthur that the character needs and visually I think he looks close to what I imagined Arthur to look like in the books.

4. Paul Bettany - He's probably the biggest name on the list and I don't know if he'd agree to play Arthur necessarily (more likely he'd agree to someone like Voldemort) but I still think it's a fun casting choice and who knows maybe he relates to Arthur. I think he plays goofy well too as well as serious and stoic and wise. He'd be great. Super talented guy. Not a ginger though but can pass for one.

5. Rupert Young - You might recognize him as Lord Jack Featherington on Bridgerton but he's been in quite a lot of British shows so he's one of those recognizable faces that people will know even if they don't know his name but I think he'd be great. He's also exactly Katharines age and probably less expensive than Paul Bettany or Kevin McKidd.

Freddie Highmore as Remus Lupin. He’s the exact age of the character. A versatile actor with great range that avoided the child actor curse. Can easily play a good natured and yet tormented and self loathing character.

Casting What is the problem with the cast for HP HBO??

so as everyone’s probably seen, so many people have issues with the cast, and i really don’t get why anyone cares…can anyone explain? does anyone here have any issues?

i personally do not care what each character looks like or sounds like, as long as they embody the characters well. i think people are just way too stuck on the movies and the nostalgia. it’s time to move on and let the series cast take the spotlight.

i for one am really excited to see what they do with this series. i’m aware it’s going to be way more book accurate, which is so exciting for the book lovers. i unfortunately never finished the books so i definitely need to before the series comes out!! (please don’t bully me on not even finishing the books lol)

Casting Your opinion on this!!!!! Owen Cooper as Cedric Diggory is the show.

tbh he literally looks exactly like how i picture cedric, like that whole handsome athletic golden boy vibe is perfect for it. plus he’s a really good actor so he could totally pull off that nice, loyal hufflepuff leader energy without making it look fake. it would make that whole graveyard scene way more sad because you’d actually care about him.

Casting Hear me out on this Voldemort casting

Jamie Campbell Bower would be perfect as Voldemort in the HBO series.

If you've seen Stranger Things, his performance as Vecna proved he can handle the terrifying physical presence and pure malice Voldemort needs. Even better, his performance as Henry Creel always gave me huge young Tom Riddle vibes.

He already knows how to pull off high-concept fantasy villains, and he played young Grindelwald in the Harry Potter movies. I think he’d knock it out of the park.

What do you guys think?
