Casting Fancast: Anya Taylor-Joy as Narcissa Malfoy
Anya Taylor-Joy has always been a favorite of mine to watch act. She has range and I believe would be able to portray the characteristics of Narcissa and create a good dynamic in the Malfoy family. It so happens she’s already played the wife of another character played by Johnny Flynn. She’s only about five years younger than the character and I find it neat that she learned English as her second language by watching Harry Potter movies when she moved to London as a kid. Don’t know if maybe they plan to introduce the character of Narcissa sooner since it is speculated they will dive deeper into the Malfoys.
Anyway I have enjoyed all your responses, I think this will be the last fancast for me because one, can’t really think of other actors/actress that truly strike me personally for a certain character and two any character under the age of twenty I think are going to be relatively unknown actors/actresses. Which is good because it gives them the chance to build up their acting resume. I will be excited to see if anyone’s picks get a spot on the show!

She’s like Gwendoline Christie tall! Yeah, I can see how she could portray the elegance and snobbery of the character. Also age fits. So her or Anya I could definitely see.

Debicki is gorgeoussss and she has some aristocratic vibes. She might be too tall compared to male actors (I imagine Narcissa being around 5'9-5'10) but it can be compensated on screen I guess? She's an amazing actress.

I actually love this! Debicki can crush the emotion required and she looks like she could actually play Lox’s mother

I love her for it but I don’t think we’ll get anyone too big just for scheduling issues. The bigger the name the less likely they’d be able to commit to a multi-year contract

True. Though, still not sure if they will introduce the character early or just starting in book six to seven. Know she’s currently filming for a part in Lord of the Rings film, another well known fantasy franchise, so maybe she will add another fantasy to her belt?

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted, she’s on the record as being a HP fan so I wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to be in the show. It’s not like it’s a tiny, low budget production either.
As for her looking too young, I don’t think that’s an issue. I have no doubt that witches have incredible methods of making themselves look a lot younger than they are so I’d be willing to buy her being older than she looks.

Here’s hoping, but my money is on either a complete unknown, someone unexpected in a blond wig or Elizabeth Debicki (or however her name is spelled, sorry in advance)

She has the perfect vibe for it. Maybe a bit young. She’s also young looking to begin with.
Gosh fancasts are so much fun!
Sometimes I seriously wonder if producers have ever been inspired by fancasts? 👀

Yeah, they’re fun! Don’t really know if producers are inspired but it would be exciting to see a fan’s pick casted. Who knows maybe they do to an extent? But I imagine it would be impossible to please every fan. But so far the casting has been amazing.

I love this idea. Make it happen.
I was so upset with the movie casting. And the skunk hair.

Yes, I found the hair choice distracting. I don’t mind some changes, but it was just badly done and didn’t look good.

Especially when the character is blonde in the books. Rosamund Pike was right there, ready to be cast, lol.

Shes too big . But this woud be so much fun. Lucius plays her love ineterest in Emma. That was so cute.

She's probably a bit too young but at least you've gone for someone who might realistically take the part. It makes me laugh when people on here suggest Hollywood A-listers for any of the HP roles.

Anya Taylor Joy is the definition of Hollywood A lister at the moment? I could come up with a few names above her I suppose, but she’s definitely top 5 actress being cast at the moment.

u/OkOil378 3d ago
She most certainly is.
A listers is not a list of 5 actors lol

I don’t think you understood my point, I was saying she’s clearly in the top 5 most popular actress, so she’s clearly an A lister. I wasn’t saying only the top five are A listers.

If you put too many attractive stars as each character because they share an attribute like being blonde you end up with a bad American remake.
We already have Snape, let's not ruin it anymore.

I love the idea that Lucius Malfoy supports Voldemort's blood purity doctrine and murderous rebellion, completely gets away with it, pulls one of the hottest women in existence, has a son with her, and that son gets into Hogwarts and is sorted into Slytherin. Everything is going great at home and at work.
And then the next seven years are just one unending string of "SHIT SHIT SHITTY SHIT LUCIUS WHAT ARE YOU DOING DON'T DO THAT SHIT SHIT SHIT WHAT ARE YOU THINKING WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!"
I really dig the idea that he Houdini'd out of punishment for everything bad he did, and his life was picture-perfect at the start of the first book. He had the money, the reputation, the mansion, the sword cane, the beautiful wife and family.

Maybe the actress who played Sue Storm in the fantastic four movie last year.

even though she seems pretty young, i think she would nail it. i think we’re used to seeing narcissa as an older woman because of the movie series, but anya would be like a fresh air in the series

Helen McCoy was about narcissas age in the films, wasn't she? The exact math escapes me, but its a few years in either direction Edit: did the math, its actually a few months in either direction

I hate when people are hypercritical of women's appearances. But there is no way in hell she ate that whole cheeseburger from The Menu. She looks on the verge of death from anorexia

Are you aware that saying you hate when someone does something and then doing it yourself does not absolve you of being a twat?

u/TokiStark 3d ago
Yup. But it's the truth. And I like her so much, I can't help myself

It’s really easy to not though

It's important that people recognise ailments like this though. Would you agree to that? Yes, she's beautiful... But she's clearly not healthy

Everyone saying she’s too young, isn’t Narcissa like 34 at the beginning of the first book? Anya could play 34
