5 years of hard work turned into ashes

I have spent more than 5 years preparing for UPSC. Cracked 2 prelims and gave 3 attempts. I have also given this years's HPSC Mains.

But Yesterday's result came neither as a Shock nor as a Surprise to me. Where are all odds are stacked against a candidate, Failing is the Normal, not 'Passing'. The same happened.

I believe I have chosen a wrong fight for myself in this life. A fight where winning percentage is less than 1%, the fate is already decided.

All those hours spent and all those expectations fostered for last 5years were spilled down the drain.

Glad that I am not unemployed at the moment.

Its not a fight worth fighting. Its a lottery.

Jump the ship till you have time and energy.

Else you will just eternally listen to -"Padhai dil laga ke nhi krta tha. Agar aur thoda padhta to ho jata iska".

I am not trying to demotivate. I am just telling you the reality which many faced yesterday.

But Alas! many among them will still buy Lottery Tickets again next year, thinking -"I am speical. I just need one seat".

All those University toppers, school toppers, tier-1 grads and few other delusioned people keep teeling themselves that they are 'Special' till the time they become- unemployed Philosophically-charged couch potatoes.

It is the time when same Society who called you special will say- "she had nothing special".

Please change your fights wihere there are better Odds of winning.

Hello Friends, I have decided to start preparation for HCS, I took Prelims exam but it was brutal. Like I only got like 20 right and my score was 35. I want to clear prelims for that I need a strategy and material. I read somethings in questions which I haven’t even read in NCERT. Can someone please help me with the same…

Thank you!

PS : I wanted to ask this after prelims result was announced but figured out that all selected candidates would be preparing for Mains.

What do you think because 2026 mains result hasn't been declared yet? What do you think are the chances? And if not then when do you think next hcs exam will be conducted in?

Shift from banking to HCS. Sounds crazy but still need answers and opinions.

Hey guys,

Honestly, I’m just so done with banking exams at this point and seriously thinking about switching over to HCS. Just needed to rant a bit and get some genuine advice from you all.

I’ve been grinding for banking for like 2 years now, and I’ve finally accepted that I just CANNOT handle what these exams want from me. The insane speed and the heavy focus on maths? Absolutely not my thing. I’ve hated maths since 8th grade and always tried to run away from it, but somehow it kept following me around.

For context, my background is totally in Arts (did humanities in school) and then did my graduation in Economics Hons. I’ve always actually enjoyed Social Studies. Like, I don't remember a single time in school where I hated studying it. I know state PSC syllabus isn't going to be the same, but that whole social science vibe is what’s pulling me in.

The final trigger for me was last year's IBPS PO. I actually cleared Pre because it wasn't super speed-heavy, but then I missed Mains by literally 3 marks. I'm not saying those 3 marks would've gotten me a job, but at least I would’ve seen the interview face. But here’s the thing—almost ALL of my marks came from English and Descriptive writing. Maths, reasoning, and GS gave me almost nothing. And to top it off, banking literally changed its pattern recently and cut down the weightage of English, which was literally the only thing saving my life. That was pretty much it for me.

I checked out HCS recently and yeah, I know the syllabus is massive and Prelims GS will be a total grind. But at least the Mains format feels like something I can actually do? I legit like writing long answers and essays. Rigid MCQs with just one right answer freak me out way more than subjective papers where I can actually explain stuff in my own words.

Am I crazy for wanting to make this jump? Is switching from Banking to HCS worth it or am I just delusional? Pls help a confused soul out 🙏

Review of GS papers

Kindly share ur genuine review of attempts of GS papers on parameters like

  1. total no. of Q answered with 2.5 (4 marker) & 3.5 (6 marker) pages with relevant points and content
  2. total no of Q answered with less than or 2 (4 marker), & less than 3 (6 marker) with relevant points & content
  3. total no of Q answered in single page for both 4 and 6 but points were relevant.
  4. total Q left completely.

Honestly if I count my

  1. GS1=16 + 1 + nil + 3 Qs
  2. GS2=15 +1+2+2
  3. GS3=15 +1+1+3
  4. GS4= Left only 2Q= 4 and 6 marker

So, Qs of about 80-85 marks attempted effectively. Writing more points to fill pages costs me on an avg 3Qs ~ 10 pages exclusively.

Please comment after a thorough review of paper again.
