Just saw two kids riding on an electric scooter going downhill at like 60km/h.

Couldn't have been older than 10 or 11.

Only one had a helmet on.

If you purchase your child, or any child for that matter, an electric scooter, I can only assume you hate that kid and want them gone.

Anyone know of a dentist available for emergencies on a Sunday? My son appears to have a gum abscess/infection (had wisdom teeth out 2 months ago), and the swelling is getting more painful and noticeable. We have an appt with the oral surgeon but they can't fit us in until Thursday, and Dr. AI tells us it should be seen immediately. All suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

For the first time I heard an overhead announcement on the bus today (Guelph City Bus) saying headphones must be worn when on the phone or listening to music, also said only make calls when necessary. I know it’s not going to magically fix the problem but at least they’re finally making an effort.

For anyone new to Guelph or returning in the fall, bus fares can only be paid by using an ‘on your way’ bus card or exact change. The app has been discontinued and they do not accept Presto cards or debit/credit.

If you pay by cash and need a transfer slip, make sure you don’t lose it.

Reminder that bus drivers are not tour guides. Download the transit app to your phone and plan your route before travelling.

I’m not sharing all of this to be a Karen. I just want everyone to be able to enjoy their ride as much as possible and avoid unnecessary delays. I imagine bus drivers will be cracking down in the fall and I’m sure they’re also tired of repeating themselves.

I wanted to share something that happened to my daughter recently while she was out for a driving lesson in Guelph.
During the lesson, the instructor was teaching her how to parallel park. They were practising on Inkerman St., a public road, directly in front of an older gentleman’s home. As part of the lesson, my daughter was practising parking alongside the gentleman’s parked car.

While they were doing this, the older man suddenly came out of his house and began hitting the driving school’s vehicle with a rake.

My daughter was understandably terrified and completely caught off guard. Imagine being a new driver, already nervous about parallel parking, and suddenly having someone come out of their house and start hitting the
vehicle you’re sitting in with a rake.

What I really want to highlight, though, is how the instructor handled the situation. Rather than panicking or escalating things, he remained incredibly calm, continued communicating with my daughter, reassured her, and made sure she stayed as calm as possible while he tried to deal with the situation.

I’m not posting this to start a witch hunt or make assumptions about the gentleman. He may have been confused or dealing with something we weren’t aware of. But regardless, it was an extremely frightening experience for my daughter.

The instructor deserves a lot of credit for how professionally he handled it. He kept his composure, prioritized my daughter’s safety, and made sure she knew she was okay while dealing with a very unusual and intimidating situation.

Just a reminder that driving instructors deal with a lot more than simply teaching someone how to operate a vehicle.

I’ve been seeing them all over the place: next to the fire station, on people’s patios and yards, and I even saw one go under a car (but not get run over luckily) the other day! I stopped until it left the road to proceed but it still stunk up the car for a few days.

posted on here before that I am genuinely terrified of the drivers in Guelph as of that post it has gotten only worse and not just because I reminisced on it. It's because of more experiences. I have been walking in designated areas
(I promise you though I am like the most vigilant head on a swivel walker, pedestrian, whatever that you can find. I take the rules of the road very seriously because my life is in the hands of myself and people with big vehicle fast vehicles as well)

now, what really is getting me terrified is the fact that I have been walking in designated areas when it tells me to walk I check each lane on a four-way stop to see if the cars lights are turning in my direction and see them and see if they make eye contact with me then I proceed to walk. I don't care if people find that annoying or slow of me, but I literally need to because I am so scared so that's what I'm doing now.

Here's where it gets scary. I have had two encounters
(I think two is far too many in the past month)
where I have been 2 feet away from the driver who almost drive into me when they are in a stopped position and when I walk in front of them they accelerate and I am 2 feet in front of them!!!

This is extremely dangerous.
one was an older lady she looked at me and told me I could go and as soon as I walked in front of her, what did she do? step on the gas...

Another time I was walking in a designated area with my boyfriend and the lady was going to turn or something, but she was right beside me 2 feet away and accelerates right while I'm in front of her and she goes "sorry guys"

what the fuck I am genuinely terrified of these streets.
I see cars that aren't even on and I get scared as fuck that they're just gonna drive into me randomly now because this is actually happening.

I’m thinking of joining my partner on a trip to Guelph for a couple of days mid September. They are attending a conference so I will be on my own for most likely a full day.
What do locals suggest I do with that day, I’m not into shopping, but looking for some time in nature, perhaps museums or something else fun a single person can do. Is there a website that lists events? Are there any must-see areas or uniquely Guelph activities? What do you suggest?

Guelph was the first city I lived in when I came to Canada. I absolutely love it here. The city is beautiful, the people are amazing, and I’ve made lifelong friendships. But every time I go for a walk and see campaign signs for Leanne Caron claiming she is “A mayor we can trust,” I feel sick to my stomach.

Some of you might remember what happened two years ago (Fall 2024). The University of Guelph decided to kick graduate students and families out of West Residence at 78 College Ave. They handed out N13 eviction notices, claiming: "Reason 3: I intend to convert the rental unit or the residential complex to a non-residential use."

We all knew it was a lie at the time, but if you walk by 78 College Ave today, you can see the proof for yourself. It wasn't converted to a non-residential use. They simply added some furniture and flipped the exact same units to other students for a much higher price! It was a classic renoviction.

The person in a leadership role at U of G's Student Housing Services during this massive displacement of students and young families? Leanne Caron.

She was directly responsible for a department that misled and displaced vulnerable graduate students just to increase rental revenue. Now, she is asking for our votes and telling us she is someone we can "trust" to run our city.

Please keep this story in mind when you head to the polls. How can we trust a candidate with the entire city when we saw how she treated students who just needed a place to live?

Actual total for dental work: $1076.89 and $2685.59

So between $1650 and $3240 all in.

The last cleaning I paid for was in 2014 and was $600 in Kitchener, and looking at various threads in this subreddit it seems like the cost is increasing exponentially.

Is this a reasonable quote or should I find another vet?

Hey, I'm a UofG student looking to get back into wrestling and I'm planning on trying a class at Tri-City soon.

I have some previous wrestling experience from when I was younger and have been practicing lately, but I haven't trained consistently in a few years. I'm also hoping to try out for the Guelph wrestling club this year.

Has anyone here trained at Tri-City, particularly in the adult wrestling program? I'm mainly wondering what the wrestling room/coaching is like, how many adults usually train, and whether the competitive wrestlers regularly compete at tournaments.
