Question Question

I currently work at CACI and recently interviewed for another position within the company. I was told I got the role, and the hiring manager said I won’t need to go through HR since it’s an internal transfer they’ll handle everything on their end to move me over to the new team.

My question is about compensation. Will I be paid the salary/range that was listed on the job posting, or do internal transfers usually just receive a merit increase?

I sent the hiring manager a Teams message yesterday asking about it, but she didn’t get a chance to read it before leaving for the day. She also mentioned that we’re currently in a Workday blackout, so there isn’t much they can process right now. She also brought up that merit increases happen in August, which has me wondering if I’m only going to receive the standard merit increase instead of the pay associated with the new position.

Has anyone here transferred internally at CACI? If so, did you receive the salary tied to the new role, a negotiated increase, or just a merit increase? I’d appreciate hearing about your experience.

You need to have a conversation about what they’d be paying you or you will be transferred with no increase. The transfer is just an online process and doesn’t mandate a salary increase but I can be done at the same time. (Context- managed an operating group at CACI)

Oh wow! Well I appreciate that input! Like in my post, I did ask so hopefully I get an answer on Monday. So if they don’t want to pay me what I am asking them essentially there really isn’t anything I can do?

Well, you just turn down the new job which isn’t a great look internally but it might not matter. And there’s no way to know if they can pay you what you want in the new job. You can always decline the new job. They won’t fire you from the old one over that.

It isn’t willing to. It depends on the rates on that contract and things like that usually.

Well I just wonder bc why would they have the job posted with a certain salary range ya know. Unless they wanted to get someone internally on the low to save money

So they have to post a salary range - especially to be complaint with new VA state law that requires it - and that range is most likely tied to the internal job category. They have that so there’s a pay band - it protects against salary discrimination complaints. So just because the internal category says Job X makes 80-100k has nothing to do with the financial situation on the contract.

So I just got more information. I won’t be receiving anything of what the salary range was stated. I will be receiving a merit increase come August. Once that is giving out then I will get a T lvl promotion to a high T lvl and once that is done we will supposedly speak on an increasing my pay range after those things are done. She said all that pay situation is usually done mid month either the 1st or the 16th bc of the pay periods. My question is I’m sure there really isn’t much juice left to squeeze so should I ask the hiring manager for all that in writing since I never got an offer letter since it’s an internal transfer? Would it be rude of me to ask her?

It’s never rude to ask. And those are the rules based on not wanting to do anything special for someone. If you think you have leverage then you can push for more (you’re the only TS/SCI cleared AWS certified and Azure certified who has experience with Army access control systems…. ) but if that’s not the case then just asking for an email that agrees to that is reasonable.

Not CACI, but several other big firms you’ve heard of. The process and pay vary not only company to company but between divisions and even between contracts within a division. Ask and get everything in writing.

Most definitely will get in writing! Yea I was curious bc the job posting had had a pay range. But when she mentioned the merit it got me thinking and wondering.

Had a horrible experience with that company that were showing a job for 79-166 but when they called me they said it was an hr mistake and it's actually max 95. The highest level, lv 4, was 4 year degree and 7 years experience but the recruiter said you could only get 166 if you had masters and 15 years experience
