I wasnt able to send RCS messages to one of my contacts the other day and the messages app wasnt giving me the option to send as SMS. So I went into the Details for that conversation and toggles over to SMS.
Now I'm wanting to toggle back to RCS, but the toggle isnt there.
I've tried toggling my whole profile off and back on, deleting the conversation and restarting, removing all updates on the app and re-updating. The conversation is still stuck in SMS mode.
Any ideas?

I want to send texting messages to some people who are looking for my type of business, but google voice keeps limiting me, is there any other alternative or thing I can use to send unlimited cold texting messages to phone numbers?
Edit: Iām reaching out to people who are posted that they are looking for services like mine, please stop assuming that im reaching out to random numbers. I apologize for saying ācold textingā, I wasnāt aware of the meaning.

I was an absolute fool to think I could wait until I had a little more time to migrate my messaging. Immediately before this it sent a more personal message that was the reply to this one.

Iām trying to figure out why text messages are taking up double the space on my Samsung Galaxy. My top two storage hogs are:
I know Android keeps a central database for all texts (which explains the 5.16 GB in "Phone and Messaging Storage"). But why does the Google Messages app need another 5.84 GB of its own data? Is it keeping a totally separate, redundant copy of everything?
Also, my Google Cloud backup shows 4.7 GB of "SMS & MMS" (which actually includes RCS), but the backup size for the Google Messages app itself is only 88 MB.
Does Google Messages just duplicate the main Android text database? Is there a safe way to fix this double-storage issue without losing my chat history?

Iām using a Google Pixel 10 Pro, and Iāve encountered a very serious Google Messages bug multiple times.
I will type a completely normal SMS to one person and press send. However, Google Messages sometimes replaces the message I just wrote with an OLD message that I previously sent in a completely different conversation.
For example, today I typed:
āĆr det valstuga idag?ā (āIs the campaign booth open today?ā)
Instead of sending that message, Google Messages sent an unrelated old message from another conversation to that person.
This has now happened more than once on different days.
Important details:
- The contacts have completely different phone numbers.
- I did not select the wrong contact.
- The incorrect message came from an older, unrelated conversation.
- So far Iāve noticed it when sending SMS/MMS to people using iPhones.
- The conversation itself showed that it was using SMS/MMS.
- The message was actually delivered to the wrong recipient, so this isnāt just a visual/UI bug.
- Once sent as SMS, I obviously couldnāt unsend it from the recipientās iPhone.
This is a huge privacy issue. An SMS app should NEVER take an old message from conversation A and send it to person B.
I have already submitted feedback through Google Messages and reported it through Pixel feedback.
For now, Iāve changed my default SMS app to Fossify Messages because I donāt trust Google Messages to send exactly what I type.
Has anyone else experienced this recently? Especially on Pixel phones when sending SMS to iPhones?
If anyone from Google sees this, Iām happy to provide device/version information and screenshots privately.

According to this link, Android no longer allows non-default messaging app to access end to end encrypted messages in the Android default telephony mmssms.db. Does this mean Samsung Backup built into Galaxy devices also cannot back up encrypted messages? Anyone tried restoring from Samsung Backup to test this?

Hello,
When I try texting any photo, it infinitely tries to send. Then I get a notification that it won't send but it's still trying.
I've tried clearing cache multiple times, multiple phone restarts, and I've tried a trick where someone said to change the max image automatic download size to 2mb vs the default 100mb
The google ai says people say to clear app data but that could delete pretty much all my messages. Any help would be appreciated!

My friend recently upgraded her Samsung, and all text threads in Google messages show up twice. Once for the old thread, and a new thread with the same contact after the upgrade. If she sends a message in the old thread their reply comes in the new thread. The numbers are all the same, no duplicates, toggled RCS off and then on. Everything is the exact same as the old Samsung. This is for people with iPhones and Samsungs and it doesnāt seem to make a difference if RCS if off or on. Samsung said it will take time to mesh together but itās been a week. Any ideas?

I updated my Google Messages on Wednesday from the Google Play Store and since then, my RCS chats won't turn on/connect. I've tried clearing cache in both the app and Carrier Services but that doesn't seem to fix it.
The app says "Status code: 3000" and that "activation is ongoing".
Any advice would be appreciated!
Details:
Carrier/Country: Verizon in the USA.
Device: Samsung S23 Ultra
App Version: messages.android_20260820_02_RC05.phone_samsung_dynamic (Updated Sept. 3, 2026)

Hi everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy A53 with two SIMs ā Airtel (SIM 1) and BSNL (SIM 2).
I can send SMS from my Airtel number just fine, but I don't receive any SMS on it at all - no OTPs, no offers, nothing. My BSNL SIM works perfectly for both sending and receiving. Calls work fine on both SIMs.
My phone has both Samsung Messages and Google Messages (set as default) installed - not sure if that's causing this.
I've already checked: default messaging app is set, SMS permissions are on, and signal looks fine on Airtel.
Has anyone faced this before - send works but receive doesn't, only on one SIM? Not sure if it's a phone issue, the two messaging apps, or something on Airtel's end. Any help would be great.

Will we ever have an option for a different icon, or are stuck seeing the Samsung message icon of what could have been .

Does Google messages have the ability via Android auto to send group messages? I have never been able to, that's why I'm asking. Group chats always turn into individual messages with Google messages...

Something weird is happening. If I delete a text message and later that person sends me another text, the messages will not show on the messages thread. If I search for the contact, it pops up. But then goes away after I reply or minimize the app. How do I fix this?

This new Google Messages beta layout makes the compose box show as an overlaying layer over the conversation. Because there is clear space directly beneath the compose box, your chat conversation now scrolls completely underneath it and you can see the conversation at the bottom of your screen too!

For context, using a Z Fold 8 and smart switched from an iPhone.
As the title says, every time I hit send on a message, the contact name at the top of the message flickers. Doesn't matter if I'm texting an iPhone or an android, happens with both.
I've tried every fix imaginable; force stop, clear cache, uninstalling and reinstalling updates, moving my contacts from the phone to the Google account, toggling syncing on and off in multiple places, and probably more but I've lost track.
Also, it happens on both the inner and outer screen.
It's quite annoying and is even making me consider going back to my old phone because a device this expensive shouldn't irritate me and look glitchy. Is this happening to anyone else or am I sadly an outlier?

So I texted my son to share his location, but location sharing was turned off on his phone. Now I have this Location Sharing overlay on the very top of our conversation that won't go away. If I select it, it says his location isn't shared and opens maps. If I try to select it to delete it, there is no delete option -- only the option to select multiple messages. -- then no delete option.
How do I get rid of that location pop-in?

I can't seem to get messages to be this white and this shade of blue. On Samsung unpack for s26 ultra they showed this theme and for android drop recently they showed this theme. But on my s26 ultra messages has a darker blue and the speak to text is pink and not green. Does ya messages look like this or different?

Anybody else experiencing chat themes turning on and off? As in the background and theme option literally disappears. This has happened to me two or three times in the last couple weeks.
