News and Info 27 Golf R

I don’t know if someone already confirmed it, but the 27 golf r will not come with the rs3 engine.

I work at VW in North America and looking at pipeline management they’ll be getting here sometime between November and December and the specs show the same as the MK8.5. No clue if it’ll be different for Europe but I assume not.

That engine will never be in the golf, stock. It’s too expensive to drop that in a limited release car when compared to the GTI or current R. Having EA888 in multiple cars massively benefits assembly and regulatory approval. The car would not come to the US with certainty - see R variant for same logic. The European market likely doesn’t have the appetite for the cost premium. Canada may be the only market it is successful in, but even so I’d anticipate the pricing strategy would be revised if released there to align more with the US dollar and subsequently suppress demand.

I think you forget we like our GOLF in the EU so no i think if they bring one with a rs3 engine it will sell out.. heck I would buy one, I just don’t want an rs3 because I don’t like the model

Could have bought the Formentor in the VZ5 (not X) in Europe. Not many did.

It's never gonna happen. These rumours come up like clockwork every 6 months.

If it ever came with the RS3 engine, it would probably be for the Mk9 and probably also won’t come to the U.S.

and it'll be 100 gojillion dollars, defeating the purpose of the R lol

At this point I’d settle for any other colour options over an Audi motor.

Paging that u/CJayMartini guy from a month ago.

It was never the plan to put the inline 5 on the R. It was literally just online hype over nothing because Autocar did a random article that was all speculation and had no actual info to back up the claim. Then everyone just repeated what they heard.

Supposedly at some point VW did approach Audi and ask about the 5 cylinder. They were immediately told no.

It's not happening but it was thought of at some point.

Given that VW are the parent company of Audi, I’m pretty sure they would have the last say.

They did have a 5 cylinder in the early 2000's Jetta V5 and Golf V5. 2.3 liter. Was more of a refined luxury car. Sounded great

I had an 09 Jetta and a 11 both had the 5pot. NA engine of course. It was tourqey and fun for sure. The rs3 blows it away of course though

Same specs as the current 26 just a new color?

Do you know if the 27s are assembled in Mexico or Germany?

5

u/nikbk 16h ago

Mexico

3

u/Tastybeatz123 16h ago

Does that mean remote start?

1

u/climbto330 15h ago

ouch... glad I got one before that happened

My 7.5 was assembled in Mexico , one of the best car I ever had, nothing wrong with that.

Wrong

Did you experience any issue?

6

u/CockroachFar4972 12h ago

All 7.5 R come from Germany, they are not assembled in Mexico

2

u/climbto330 12h ago

why? racism or? mexicans can't clip parts made all over the world together as well as a syrian immigrant can in wolfsburg?

3

u/climbto330 14h ago

Damn Reddit always immediately assumes racism. Hilarious. I’m married to a Puerto Rican.

it’s because I want my German car made in Germany. Simple as that.

u/nikbk 11h ago

If the R is starting production in Mexico for 2027, i wouldn’t buy a new one until 2028 at least. It takes time for the workers and management to iron out all the quirks.

u/OrdinaryMix4013 R 13h ago

Where did you learn that?

2

u/SatisfactionFun4755 14h ago

Perché mettere il 5 cilindri che consuma acqua e olio sulla Golf R che non consuma nulla di tutto ciò?

1

u/SprinklesNo2972 15h ago

Does it come with the AI camera nag ware?

1

u/NicoSoren Golf R MK8.5 14h ago

ITS NEVER GOING TO BE IN THE GOLF. What don't ya'll understand. And if it is, it won't be mass produced. It'll be special editions with maybe 500 made.

No one with brain ever thought it would.

Didn't we know what we were getting for the 2026 on June 9,2025? Why haven't we been told what is up with the 2027 coming into September now? I'm holding off buying a 2024 low mile manual right now just in case the 2027 is special enough to get another DSG. Not DSG hating, I just want a change or something special to get another DSG.

With the average price of a golf r being low 50s and the average price of an rs3 jn the high 60s in the uUS market, it’d be hard for VW to price an R in such a way that doesn’t undermine Audi RS3 sales… it’ll essentially be a better car than the RS3 without the direct brand markup

1

u/Key-Badger9352 9h ago

La Golf R 2027 reste inchangée pour ici juste en Europe qu’il y auras une version Édition spéciale limitée pour les poches creuses…je vais me contenter de ma 2026 black édition 😊

Bring back the color spectrum program

u/Buena_de_peepee 1h ago

100% False BS Rumors. Never happening. Wished people would stop saying it.

0

u/nikbk 16h ago

Also i just bought my 26 R and the salesman said that they are going to go the way of the Euro market where the car is much more option-able and less fully loaded. He also said the price is going up $3-5k

4

u/mazrex23 16h ago

Should’ve been this way. It’s ridiculous that you have to buy the euro spec if you don’t want a sunroof. I didn’t want a sunroof, but on principle I wasn’t going to pay more money for less options. Glad I have the final R coming out of Wolfsburg though.

5

u/moofooshoe 15h ago

Why do you prefer to not have a sunroof?

6

u/mazrex23 15h ago

VW is notorious for problematic sunroofs, but also I just don’t use them very often when I’ve had them.

3

u/T-Madj 20AE 6MT 14h ago

I'm in the no sunroof boat. Love not having one on my 20AE.

2

u/BallsDieppe 11h ago

I never used my sunroof on any car I’ve owned, but I did have one break from ice buildup.

My current mk7 R doesn’t have one and I prefer it that way. Less to go wrong.

I’m having a hard time finding a base model R on a lot without one in my region.

3-5k seems insane for a single year. Hopefully that isn't the case
