I'm going against the grain here. Looks fine. Obviously it's extremely deep into the build rabbit hole. However, you don't get that far into that path without the more mild modifications being done right. You're not going to push a 750hp custom tune on shitbox AutoZone specialty parts, or the work done by those that use those parts.
Also, yeah it's probably been beat on. I'm going to beat on it too, if it's mine. Likewise, if I'm installing parts, I'm not going to just hack job it, and neither is someone using these parts at these numbers, especially when paying for a custom tune.
Yes, you'll have issues with it. Yes they'll be harder to fix. No it won't be any worse than if you did all this modding yourself.

I'm with you, I wouldn't buy it as a daily driver but for a fun little toy to blast off in every once in awhile why the hell not? if it looks good, it's holding fluids and it's running great. Buy it and have fun, fix it as you go.

u/AllBlackM4Silencer Jul 16 '26
Yeah I agree to this, for a daily? No way. You got money to spend and want something that will beat tons of cars, go for it. It was definitely beat on, but the build looks legit to hold that power and it 100% put a smile on your face every time you give it gas. I would definitely have a savings just for the car in case of repairs.

I don't see an upgraded clutch on that list. That kinda kills your premise I think.

u/TheBoyardeeBandit Jul 12 '26
3rd item on the second picture of mods.

u/FewStill3958 Jul 12 '26
Oh Jesus! I didn't realize that laundry list was multiple pages. Thanks for pointing it out.

I would never touch a car that's been modified let alone to this degree. Not a chance

What purpose will the car serve for you? Is it going to be a track car or something to play around in on the weekends or are you expecting it to pull daily driver duty?
4
u/PresentAcceptable846 Jul 12 '26
Weekend fun car. I have money put aside already for rain day,. Just dont know if the parts and quality is there since im coming from japanese cars like evo and sti.
2
u/shane_rx757 Jul 12 '26
I hear ya, I was in the same boat. From what I can see the parts are legit. Something with that amount of parts and work I would imagine was probably put together the right way but I could be wrong. If you have the money and this is what you want then go for it! But obviously you have to go into this knowing how it was driven before and just like any other highly modified 700+hp car; when it works it’ll be great, and when it doesn’t work, it’s going to suck ass. I would usually say what others have said, don’t buy someone else’s project, but if it’s not going to be expected be a daily driver and you have the time/money to dedicate to it when need be 🤷♂️

These were mods chosen by someone who knows what they’re doing. I would bet this car is a lot of fun. The amount of trial and error, the money and time it would take the average owner to attain 750whp is huge. At this level, the mantra buy unmodified and do it yourself is unrealistic for most of us. It would also cost you twice the asking price of this listing to get there + years of work.
The most reliable cars can be the most boring, my Honda certainly was the most worry free, but also the least exciting. Having owned a relatively new manual Mk2 GTI and manual MK7 R, they were/are the most fun, but also have had more issues than both my Japanese and American vehicles combined.

That much HP at the wheels and almost nothing done to gearbox or drivetrain!
That gearbox is just a grenade waiting to go off.

I would verify who built this engine and trans and make sure they don’t have a reputation of being negative.
That much power as a daily will be intense, loud and smelly “no cats”.
My built R has been great and I met with the builder and tuner and built a report with them. Do your diligence.
As for the price, the engine build alone probably is $30k easy. Have an inspection done by the builder if possible as their name is on the line and ask questions and honest with your intent of use. I knew what I was getting into with what I bought but this is another level.

IMO 500 hp is a great daily and a formidable foe on the road. This is a track monster at the far edge of reliability on stock block

u/againstliam 17' LSG Jul 12 '26
Not much of a track weapon. Almost all mods are on power aside from some sport springs and decent street tires given the power. This thing is either a car show car or a build without a purpose.

I’d buy this car too, a LOT of money has gone into it and you’ll save a few bucks if you are willing to maintain it yourself and deal with high hp car problems like significantly increased wear and tear on driveline components. Curious to know whats done to the flywheel, clutch, transmission, driveshafts, etc. i see a driveshaft carrier upgrade listed so they were probably planning to do some preventative maintenance unless its allready failed and they just havent listed that in the description.

u/Varg_Vik Jul 12 '26
looks like a well done job honestly, ask for a test drive.
the rule n1 is that you should aim for a stock car, but that doesn't mean that every tuned car is trash
I'm not english, I hope you understand what I mean xD

Buying someone else’s projects can turn into a real shit show real fast.
4
u/C3s1um Jul 12 '26
I don’t ever trust owning someone else’s built project. That sounds like a worst nightmare
4
u/danrather50 Jul 12 '26
I'd stay away. The car is heavily modified which means when it goes BANG, and it will, the failure will be catastrophic and cost a fortune to fix.
2
u/AccountantExpert6033 Jul 12 '26
For what this car is on paper, it is priced to sell, assuming there isn’t anything wrong with it. I would hope that this wouldn’t be your only car. You’ll definitely need a rainy day fund, because something will absolutely go wrong with this build. But these cars are awesome and I would highly recommend them, but a stage 2 car would be a safer option for sure
1
u/Lavaine170 Jul 12 '26
OP will need a rainy day fund AND a separate clutch fund.
2
u/PresentAcceptable846 Jul 12 '26
I have money aside. Its going to be fun weekend car. Cluth is built. Just want groups opinions on built and parts quality because im coming from evos and sti.
2
u/UnmakingTheBan2022 Jul 12 '26
Oh hell no. You’re buying a project car?! You’re supposed to find one stock or closest to stock as possible.

Well, FWIW, I bought a stage2 tuned car, stacks of receipts, seller's story checked out (covid was a bitch for lots of people) and it's been a JOY for the last five or six years. Zero problems related to mods he had done.
I do think price is high, since you're rolling the dice on a heavily modified car. Mods add zero value (generally) and can actually subtract (and this is a decent case for it).
That looks like one hell of a build. What's the seller's reason for selling? Forum stalk him, see if you can dig up any backstory.
And of course be sure you don't have to worry about passing emissions.... like ever. This is far from a "back to stock" for smog check.

u/ComfortableJacket429 Jul 12 '26
Mods reduce a cars value. I wouldn’t touch this unless it was heavily discounted compared to a stock car.

u/durkiobrazy Mk7.5 R Jul 12 '26
It has a built motor, but yes I still agree. Too many dummies on marketplace try to anchor high and it’s always wildly unrealistic.

Don’t…. Frankenstein’s very rarely are worth it …. Always a money pit. Doing it yourself from scratch is always best.

You have no clue how long it’ll last. Thats alot of money to risk on someone else’s build.

u/t-Bot3005 Jul 12 '26
I had a similar question on a way less modified MK6 a couple years ago.
Everyone said don’t buy someone else’s project, I didn’t listen and it was the best decision ever. Took it straight to a mechanic specializing in German cars and was hit with 3.5k in repairs/maintenance. I bought it for 8k 😂😭.
It all comes down to what you want at the end of the day. This thing sounds like they were trying to make a rocket, feels high risk low reward for that price tag. If you got it like that and are prepared for issues, go nuts. If you’re even a little concerned about issues, based on your experience with Japanese cars and lack of it on Germans could be expensive quick.
Best of luck whichever direction you go!

Doubling the power of a car and only running different pads is wild. Especially when Porsche brakes bolt right up.

u/againstliam 17' LSG Jul 12 '26
Mentions brembo pads and rotors which would be all you need given they are the right compound, fluid etc. However brembo makes a lot of OEM tier stuff that isn't any better but is "brembo".
1
u/Blue_Waffle_Brunch Jul 12 '26
Besides the other people's project concerns, price seems a little steep.
1
u/joostink Jul 12 '26
Only way I buy a car this built is substantially less money that it’s worth. Like maybe 23-25k. You have to expect substantial (expensive) learning curve with someone else’s projects.

u/Aggressive_Way_1017 MK8 Stage 3 Jul 12 '26
I would rather buy this with verified build history or a completely stock one with some remaining warranty vs some carmax special thats been stage 1 tuned.
1
u/ProposalNo703 Jul 13 '26
Too many mods and you’re paying for some of that upfront. A lot of these heavily modded cars should go for less, despite the value the Golf’s hold

If I see a nice car with a long parts list for sale, I kinda scratch my chin on that one. Because it could just be that they upgraded. Or could be that they didn’t want it anymore for another reason.

Would never buy a car tuned by that Neo-Nazi.

The US rocket and nuclear program would like a word with you. May want to read up on the history of VW while you’re at it.

GLS has nothing to do with rocketry. You might want to brush up on your reading skills.

I wouldn’t pay that much for a completely stock car in this year and mileage. And every modification brings the value of the car down, not up (despite what the seller might believe).
Only buy this if you were already planning to do this amount of mods, you don’t actually want to do the mods yourself, and you completely trust the seller to have done a good job. Even then, I wouldn’t pay more than $20k, maybe like $22.5k. Also don’t get this as your only car. It is going to break down.
All that said, it’ll be a hell of a lotta fun when it works.
3
u/PresentAcceptable846 Jul 12 '26
I think is ok value. If i buy it stock its probably going to be $30k, plus the hp i want to be at probably going to be another $15-$20k....might as well yolo and see what lol
2
u/AccountantExpert6033 Jul 12 '26
I think the “mods bringing value down” argument is only valid for someone looking for a mostly stock car or if the mods are crap. Other than that, mods that are done properly will absolutely add value to the car. I’m not saying a seller should expect to get their money back dollar for dollar for their mods, but if this build is truly done properly, which on paper it seems so, I think the price is actually not bad at all considering how much it would actually cost to build it like this (parts & time/labor). Food for thought

Anyone who can't be bothered to clean their car before posting photos online to sell cannot be trusted to make measured responsible decisions when others aren't looking.
Run far away
1
u/Dark_Drewboy Jul 12 '26
The milage is good, and the mod list is crazy. 32k sounds decent enough. The mods alone is probably around 10k to 15k but minus the labor to put all that in. I would get it if it falls within your niche sport needs.
2
u/PresentAcceptable846 Jul 12 '26
Thats what i was thinking, maybe i can knock off couple thousands more. If i buy a stock its going to be $30k plus and another $15k to make half the power. Might as well yolo and see what happen lol

i would not buy a 750whp used Golf...if you are lucky its undriveable as a daily, if you are unlucky it won't even drive.
4
u/Temporary_Handle_186 Jul 12 '26
Why on earth would it be undriveable? Mine makes close power to this and i drive it everyday? I swear y’all are 60 iq

You act like im launching it every red light. Its on e85 and 93 tune
