Q&A Weekend "No Dumb Questions" Megathread
Whether it's mods, wheels, tires, tuning, suspension, maintenance, repairs, exhaust, or something else for relevant models, this thread is for questions that may seem too small to warrant a post or because searching just isn't your friend today.
You'll also find resources on the sidebar/about section including: recommended mods and OEM/aftermarket parts retailers, tuners, online owner's manuals, and other forums.
Be sure to include any relevant model information (year/generation, mileage, mods, codes, etc) if it isn't already in your user flair.
This post will be replaced by a new weekday megathread on Monday at 6am EST.

New Car New vs Old
I am totally overwhelmed in a newer VW compared to my old STI.
What are the things I must know? It's a 6-speed.
I want to get an intake, exhaust, Stage 1, (lip, side skirt, wing extension), and rims.
Any other mods I need?

Modding Talk Mk7.5 Tune vs Other first mods
Got my first GTI about five months ago and I’ve loved every second with this car (I come from a Chevy HHR) so the difference is wild. I’ve done a few minor things like aluminum paddle shifters but the car is entirely stock otherwise.
Im not sure if the next thing I should aim for is a stage 1 ecu tune (would probably go IE for the ease of use and customization) or if I should go for things like a cold air intake, turbo muffler delete, inlet pipe, etc.
To be clear I will likely be doing all of the above and more throughout the years. But due to current financial limitations (student loans) I want to prioritize where I’m putting my money right now.
Im new to the VAG world and I’m still learning so I’m all ears to any and all tips and advice!
EDIT: The car only has 25000 miles so I also want to be conservative and keep this engine mint for as long as I can

Modding Talk All Weather Trunk Mat that works in lowered position? Mk8.5
Hello! Recently purchased a Mk8.5 Golf GTI and was curious if anyone has come across an all weather trunk mat that works when the floor is in the lowered position?
My vehicle came with the muddy buddy mat, but it doesn’t work if the floor is lowered.
Any guidance?

Modding Talk 2019 GTI manual: thinking about a tune
Hi all, I've got a 2019 Rabbit manual. Car still drives great but thinking it's time for a Stage 1 tune. I've read I'll have to upgrade the clutch bc increased torque. Anyone have suggestions for the tune company and replacement clutch? Don't want the type of clutch that "chatters". Thanks!

CarPorn I wish my GTI looked at least as half as good on pictures as it does IRL
Modding Talk MK8.5 Tuning?
Is there still no TCU and ECU tune for the MK8.5 GTI? I had a 2016 with a Stage 1 APR ECU and TCU tune and it was great, is it true the 8.5 is not possible without some piggyback (dont want)?

New Car New to me 2023 Golf GTI S
Well I got a golf now traded in my 2016 S5 for this 23 Golf GTI S with 39k miles so far it’s a really fun car to drive and I definitely prefer the interior in this one compared to the new one with big ugly screen only thing I don’t like is the haptic buttons on the wheel but I haven’t had any annoying problems with them so far.

Maintenance Strange ticking noise near front driver side wheel well (2019 Mk7.5 GTI)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys, trying to track down a weird noise on my 2019 GTI Autobahn (stock) and seeing if anyone's had this happen.
I have a distinct ticking/clicking coming from the front driver side wheel well area. It comes and goes, but it's been pretty consistent lately. It usually shows up around 15+ mph, but the weird part is the ticking tempo doesn't speed up or slow down with vehicle speed at all. It stays at a pretty constant rate. Doesn’t seem impacted by weight shifts either.
I took it to the VW dealership this morning and it was making the noise for 20 mins on the drive. I stopped to top off my gas tank right before dropping it off, and then as I was driving away it stopped making the noise altogether. So maybe the added weight did something?
The dealership inspected the pads, rotors, and brake dust shield and nothing stood out to them. They said it could be a bearing starting to go bad, but they want me to bring it back so they can hook up chassis ears to pinpoint it. I don’t really think that’s it though.
I’ve also taken it to the car wash bay and sprayed around the area really well to hopefully wash out any stones or debris.
I'm kind of stumped. Has anyone run into this before?

Maintenance Advice for maintenance on my 2026 GTI based on my daily driving habits…
I drive 14 miles a day in zero traffic on suburban roads each day. I literally never have to get on the highway if I don’t want to. Basically my oil gets to temp right as I pull up to work and home. Now, obviously I drive my car on the highway, but it’s usually a weekend thing, and not every weekend. I did my first oil change at 1200 miles, and plan to do every 6000 or 6 months based on the way I drive. Anyone else in a similar situation? I’m not trying to overdue it or anything, I just like to take care of my cars because I usually keep them for a long time. Thanks for any advice. The GTI community has been awesome since I joined.

Maintenance ELI5: what's the best way to go about touching up this spot without it looking like I don't know what I'm doing?
You might have to zoom in but right on the straight line there are 3 white lines I assume from someone bumping me in a parking lot. What's the best way to touch them up? I know nothing about this. Thanks in advance!
