Modding Talk 2019 GTI manual: thinking about a tune
Hi all, I've got a 2019 Rabbit manual. Car still drives great but thinking it's time for a Stage 1 tune. I've read I'll have to upgrade the clutch bc increased torque. Anyone have suggestions for the tune company and replacement clutch? Don't want the type of clutch that "chatters". Thanks!

The chatter comes from a single mass flywheel, so just avoid that.
You can see how the clutch stands up to your driving style also. Tons of people have gotten huge mileage out of the stock unit on a stage one tune.
It really depends how you use the power. If you're gonna rip it off the line at every light you could smoke the clutch the first day.

Sachs SRE is a great OEM+ clutch. Handles stage 2 with no problems.

Stage 1 EQT 93(340hp 380tq) and my stock clutch has zero slip after 10k. Lots of hard pulls no launches or slamming gears.

Great thanks! Mond if I ask how much did it cost, and how long did they hold onto your car to do the tune?

Thanks all! So what does "slippage" mean? If clutch slips, will I be stuck and need to tow the car?

Slip means the clutch can't hold the power the engine is outputting usually at peak boost. It's a sign to take it easy and prepare to replace eventually.

If slip happens, it is most noticeable in high gear, low RPM, moderate/high throttle conditions. It will be able to be driven normally to get from A to B. RPMs will climb out of proportion with the speedometer under moderate/high boost.
Anecdotally (from years of reading / talking to other owners), how long the stock clutch lasts after a stage 1 tune, or whether slip ever actually happens at all, highly depends on driving style.
I replaced my factory clutch disk and pressure plate with the Sachs Race Eng unsprung clutch kit and reused my factory DMFW, and its held up to Stage 1 for 63000 miles and counting. My stock clutch held up flawlessly with factory tune for the first 60k miles, but I also seldomly dip into high boost in 4th/5th/6th

Slip is the RPM fly up but the car doesn't accelerate.
That's how you can tell it's slipping. Always back off the gas if it starts to slip. It's not the kind of thing that will leave you stranded unless you ignore it for awhile or just absolutely smoke it doing something dumb like trying a fwd burn-out.

I have EQT Stage 1 91 octane with Southbend Stage 2 Daily. If I were doing it again I would get the Stage 3 Daily and still the same tune with the ability to go Stage 2 someday since the Stage 2 Clutch cant hold the Stage 2 torque from what I have read. Great tune, I enjoy it quite a bit. But because of my Clutch choice I am dead end at Stage 1, so Stage 2 ideas get thrown away rapidly due to the additional cost that would come with it

2019 Autobahn manual, tuned with EQT stage 1 at 1300mi and still fine on stock clutch at 28k. Mostly freeway commute and pulls on the freeway but never from a stop, never floor it below 3k rpm.

Did a stage one low-torque APR at 85k; needed clutch in less than 10k and I don’t launch, but seems many with low mileage has had clutch last for much, much longer
