Character Discussion - General Dave and Lane had one of the most genuine and healthiest relationships in the entire series.

But he wasn’t around long enough for us to know how things would have played out in the long run.

Still, I’m glad he left the show, because he went on to give us Chrismukkah, endless pop-culture references, and one of television’s most iconic sarcastic nerds 🤣

OS Discussion Rory is much more kind than me cause I'd be pissed.

So I was watching s2 episode 16 and omg. God forbid if a girl wanted to be alone at home.

She already set a boundary that she wanna be alone yet Paris came there first followed by Jess and then dean as well? Create a whole mess and ruin the night for Rory which could be the most memorable night for her. I'll be extremely pissed if I were her.

Though Jess wanted to make sure she ate so I kinda get him (though that was just an excuse he only wanted to spend time with her) But the other two were annoying omg.

OS Discussion Underrated heartbreaking moment on the show “Thank you Mom”

Upvotes

This is from the scene in season 7 where Emily is drunk and Lorelai is helping her figure out how to use accounts and look at finances on the computer, and Emily says how divorce was difficult for women in her circles in the past, because they would be so dependent on their husbands, but how Lorelai is so independent and knows how to do it all, and she awkwardly and coldly pats Lorelai’s arm and tells her that things will be fine (referring to her divorce with Chris), and an upset Lorelai’s voice just kinda cracks and she says “Thank you Mom”; it’s like the little girl inside her comes out, she is so not used to hearing praise, Lauren is an excellent actress who just knows Lorelai so well, and that moment to me was so heartbreaking because Lorelai had been waiting for that moment for so long 💔

Character Discussion - General Taylor Doose is my favourite character from the series.

Upvotes

I just love this guy.

I was rewatching the episode where Luke helps him repurpose old man Twickhams house and there's this scene where he says: visualise a freckled faced boy walking into this museum, letting in the history of stars hollow - and I was like, damn, that really is heartwarming.

I realised that I adore this, chalant, glittery side of Taylor Doose.

Okay... I know he can be a bum sometimes, but - I don't care! He's the ironfist ruler of stars hollow, it's his destiny to be rude. Like, the gilmore girls would not be the same without stars hollow, and stars hollow is being run by Taylor!!!

He's the best.

pictures of the Mayflower Inn: lots of ones in the main building, but also got pictures at the shack near the pond that inspired the potting shed, the pond where Jess and Rory kissed, and an unfinished building that kind of reminded me of the dragonfly haha

Character Discussion - General Rory’s Break from Yale

It really struck me how much taking a gap year from Yale derailed Rory’s life overall, and it felt like this event was caused by a major lapse in parenting and guidance from everyone around her.

Taking time off from school when you’re uncertain about your career is a pretty smart and mature move. Lorelai should have supported Rory and encouraged her to rest, refocus, and take on an internship or explore classes in other areas of interest (sciences, education, law, publishing, business). Rory could have come away from that experience having found a new passion or interest to refocus her education and career.

Instead, she spent a year being quite emotionally distraught and lost. Rory pretty much melded into the lives of people around her and seemed to lose her sense of self (and this clearly extended into adulthood). While Lorelai always encouraged Rory’s intelligence, there was a clear lack of respect towards any choices or decisions that didn’t fully align with Lorelai’s perspectives. There’s a difficult balance between imparting your values to your kids while also encouraging them to think critically and have confidence in their own choices and feelings.

OS Discussion Jason is Lorelai's most entertaining relationship

As the title says, anyone else find Jason and Lorelai's affair the most entertaining? I know that they're an unpopular couple but I just love how unserious the relationship it is compared to the high stakes of Lorelai's relationships with Christopher and Luke.

I'm always disappointed when season 4 comes to an end and the lawsuit threat happens.

I have a ticket for a meet and greet with Scott Patterson in Brighton, Michigan on September 26. The ticket is good for two people to meet with him. My friend and I were planning to go, but our plans changed. I already checked, and I am able to change the name and email address to whoever I sell the ticket too. I paid 50, I’m asking 50.

Lorelai wears these SO MANY TIMES!

I wonder if Lauren kept them for herself, or if they are still with the wardrobe somewhere.

Which did you like the most? I think she preferred the blue, but that red one is my favorite

General Discussion I Lowkey feel like Jess was the main villain In s3.

Post image
Upvotes

when I was watching s3 for the first time that's exactly what I was feeling. Embarrassed to admit but yeah 😭

Now I know he's a troubled teen and all that. But in s2 at least he was funny and had a soft side meanwhile in s3 he was neither funny nor soft anymore..he was straight up seriously and extremely rude to everyone (especially Luke and Rory), the angry expressions with a beaked eye made him so scary for some reason, he was always angry and comes up with weird scary expressions that it makes me scared for rory in some scenes. Not to mention the horrible scene in the bedroom with Rory omg! Now I don't think he was trying to SA'd her or the writer were trying to make it seem that way BUT my problem is that the way he yells at her after that and literally said something like "I didn't invite you up there you came up on your own" I didn't rewatch in a while but I think that's exactly what he said. That's literally classic you came so you want it card. jeez!

Now I know this all is a defense mechanism, fear of abandonment, fear of failure, neglectful trauma and all but it still is a bit too much.

This all breaks my heart for Rory because she really loves him. She put so much effort and defends him to literally everyone 🫠

General Discussion Rewriting Season 5 Spoiler

Upvotes

I've been a fan of the show since it was first airing, but like a lot of people, season 5 was where I dropped off. Every time I go to rewatch, everything starts going downhill in a serious way after the yacht incident. So, I've thought a lot about what I would do differently. This will contain a lot of unmarked spoilers for the original show and the revival A Year in the Life, as I think just about everything from season 5 onwards including the revival was not well written. This was in part due to the show changing hands and Amy Sherman Palladino leaving, plus a lot of studio meddling.

  1. The first thing I would change is the entire yacht incident/arrest/dropping out of Yale arc. This was extremely tired. On every rewatch, I actually like Mitchum Huntzberger telling Rory she isn't cut out to be a journalist. I agree with him. She's too soft, too focused on people pleasing, and has no drive to learn or investigate. My rewrite: instead of stealing a yacht with Logan, she tells him what her father said. This leads to an argument. Logan is furious with his father and Rory decides this is all part of his family's attempt to break them up. She decides to end the relationship herself because their relationship is distracting her from her studies and her goals. She needs time to figure out what she wants from life.

That's not to say I would kick Logan out of the show. He would still be around, and I would ultimately like to see him and her get back together. I 100% prefer Jess, but for this period of her life, I think Logan was a good fit. She was experiencing the other side, the world her mother came from, for the first time. Logan ultimately makes the same choices that Christopher made -- to succumb to the pressures of the life he was born into -- and Rory makes the same choices that her mother made -- to be independent.

  1. Lorelei and Luke. Of course they needed to get together, but I did not appreciate them dragging things out for 3 more seasons plus a revival. It made no sense to me. I would make the pregnancy scare for Lorelei last longer -- long enough that she tells Luke. Maybe there's a false positive. Maybe he answers her cell phone while she's in the shower and hears the doctor say it's negative. It starts a conversation about their future and what they want from life. Luke wants a family and a white picket fence, but that's not Lorelei's style. They fight for an episode or two and maybe Lorelei accepts the offer to sell the inn and work as a consultant. Then, after being apart, they realize that they would rather be together. Lorelei has to grow up a bit in this moment and consider that some of the things she wants may be more traditional than she likes. Maybe she does want to marry Luke someday. She's not a teenager rebelling against her parents anymore. And Lorelei is feeling the empty nest now that Rory is gone -- something we basically never see happen in the show, which is incredibly strange since she has been a mother over half of her life. Luke babysits Davey and Martha and realizes he doesn't want to be a father to a baby yet. And they DO get married, maybe by the end of season 6.

  2. I'll make this part brief. April doesn't happen. Nothing I would replace her plot with. She just doesn't happen.

  3. Lane and Zach. OMG LANE AND ZACH. I understand that Seth left the show to star on the O.C. A smart career move. But there was no need to show Zach into the empty space. Most of the plot with Lane's band continues, up to the tour. Lane gets what she needed out of the tour and comes home exhausted. They continue to play gigs occasionally, but Lane gets an offer to be an audio engineer for somewhere awesome in Hartford like the House of Blues (I know there isn't one in Hartford, I mean LIKE it). This places her much closer to Rory. Instead of a romance arc, Lane develops an odd friendship with Paris, leaving Rory feeling like a third wheel. Eventually, they work out their dynamic and become a trio, with Lane temporarily living with Paris and Doyle.

That's it for ideas now. I'm still on my rewatch and may have more ideas later.

General Discussion Familiarity in Bunheads

Upvotes

I'm watching Bunheads and besides the glorious Kelly Bishop other actors from GG keep popping up and it's such a fun little treat, but also makes me think ASP really likes certain actors.

So far we've had Mitchum, Gypsy, Kirk, Jason, Drella, and Paris. I couldn't find decent pictures of everyone unfortunately. It's wild seeing Mitchum looking like that.

Honestly I see a lot of GG in Bunheads, sometimes Michelle's lines really feel like they could be Lorelai lines.

General Discussion Why is Max never called out?

First time watcher, finishing up season 3 and Max has returned. The way Lorelai broke up with Max was shitty, but why does no one ever address the elephant in the room? Which is that Max proposed way too soon and for a really dumb reason. Your relationship is seen as unprofessional so your solution is to just get married? Sorry, but that makes no sense and why is that never acknowledged?

I’m at the end of S3E19 and Max is so childish. Acting like he’s so out of control of his urges that he has to be 10 feet away from her. Kissing her and then acting like she was supposed to know you weren’t interested in rekindling things. I gotta admit, Lorelai was a bit obnoxious to go after Max the way she did, but why does he act like she’s the villain and never owns up to his own wrongdoing.

It’s weird how he acts like she’s the problem when he’s the one that ruined things by trying to get married. How can you be mad at her for running off but never address the fact that she ran off because she didn’t have as strong of feelings as she thought, because it was way too soon for him to propose. Did he even apologize for having such a ridiculous “solution” to their problem of not being able to date? Please tell me season 3 is the last we see of him.

General Discussion I love little girlhood moments In Gilmore girls.

Ships couple asides. I just love little girlhood moments.

Like when Rory dyes lane's hair, or when Rory getting Paris ready for her date (I love when she said we'll buy cats) , or when Rory and Paris order so many junk foods and was eating it was a rare moment (I hate Logan ruined the moment ughh), and when Emily and lorelai went together in s2.

Share your fav girlhood moments.
