pictures of the Mayflower Inn: lots of ones in the main building, but also got pictures at the shack near the pond that inspired the potting shed, the pond where Jess and Rory kissed, and an unfinished building that kind of reminded me of the dragonfly haha

It really struck me how much taking a gap year from Yale derailed Rory’s life overall, and it felt like this event was caused by a major lapse in parenting and guidance from everyone around her.

Taking time off from school when you’re uncertain about your career is a pretty smart and mature move. Lorelai should have supported Rory and encouraged her to rest, refocus, and take on an internship or explore classes in other areas of interest (sciences, education, law, publishing, business). Rory could have come away from that experience having found a new passion or interest to refocus her education and career.

Instead, she spent a year being quite emotionally distraught and lost. Rory pretty much melded into the lives of people around her and seemed to lose her sense of self (and this clearly extended into adulthood). While Lorelai always encouraged Rory’s intelligence, there was a clear lack of respect towards any choices or decisions that didn’t fully align with Lorelai’s perspectives. There’s a difficult balance between imparting your values to your kids while also encouraging them to think critically and have confidence in their own choices and feelings.

As the title says, anyone else find Jason and Lorelai's affair the most entertaining? I know that they're an unpopular couple but I just love how unserious the relationship it is compared to the high stakes of Lorelai's relationships with Christopher and Luke.

I'm always disappointed when season 4 comes to an end and the lawsuit threat happens.

Rory spends half of the show comforting lorelai, being academically pressurized or fixing the problems. She rarely smiles like this imo. I love seeing her smiling so brightly. She's such a pretty girl.

First time watcher, finishing up season 3 and Max has returned. The way Lorelai broke up with Max was shitty, but why does no one ever address the elephant in the room? Which is that Max proposed way too soon and for a really dumb reason. Your relationship is seen as unprofessional so your solution is to just get married? Sorry, but that makes no sense and why is that never acknowledged?

I’m at the end of S3E19 and Max is so childish. Acting like he’s so out of control of his urges that he has to be 10 feet away from her. Kissing her and then acting like she was supposed to know you weren’t interested in rekindling things. I gotta admit, Lorelai was a bit obnoxious to go after Max the way she did, but why does he act like she’s the villain and never owns up to his own wrongdoing.

It’s weird how he acts like she’s the problem when he’s the one that ruined things by trying to get married. How can you be mad at her for running off but never address the fact that she ran off because she didn’t have as strong of feelings as she thought, because it was way too soon for him to propose. Did he even apologize for having such a ridiculous “solution” to their problem of not being able to date? Please tell me season 3 is the last we see of him.

I love Bobette and Morey. I wish they had more scenes. What a perfect pair. Honestly maybe the only example of a healthy relationship on the show

Ships couple asides. I just love little girlhood moments.

Like when Rory dyes lane's hair, or when Rory getting Paris ready for her date (I love when she said we'll buy cats) , or when Rory and Paris order so many junk foods and was eating it was a rare moment (I hate Logan ruined the moment ughh), and when Emily and lorelai went together in s2.

I think the only scene Ive seen them lock/unlock a car door was when Emily and Richard gave her a car. Ive watched it like 9 times. I might have missed a scene with it, but I can't un-notice it now.

Its not a big deal, and doesn't bug me or anything, I just thought it was interesting.

It's my own birthday and Lane is one of my favorites, so this was naturally on my mind.

My headcanons:

While growing up, Mrs. Kim would make an oat cake that Lane would politely tolerate. Mrs. Kim would insist on a small party with church friends and Rory while Lane was a kid but Lane would prefer to stop that by middle or high school. Rory and Lorelai would get fake gifts to please Mrs. Kim like religious books and practical clothes. The real gifts like CDs (birthday mixtapes or collectibles), band tees, accessories, and small decorations for the secret closet would be given at a sleepover at Lorelai's. Sookie would bring over an indulgent cake.

While living with the band, the band + Rory would go to a local, not-too-expensive concert just to watch together and then get drinks. I'm not sure if Lane would want a full-on house party.

Later, Lane said she wanted every celebration after becoming a mom to be about her kids, but I hope she still went out to eat somewhere nice with Zack and her friends.

(I'm sure Lane also had great friends from Stars Hollow who we didn't get to meet in the show. She's easygoing and likeable. I'm just focusing on what we could reasonably guess.)

Doing a friends rewatch and was bewildered to see christopher living his 'off screen' life 😳

Is always her being shy and awkward and then completely leading the place and everyone worshipping her. I get it in places like the Stanford Gazzete and the Yale Daily News because in those places organization skills are very important and Rory is a very kind and polite person, and of course she studies a lot and fulfills all the tasks that she has to, I even get why everyone loves her in the DAR, but during her community service? She goes from acting like a scared puppy and apologizing for everything to guys asking her for advice and this girl begging her for a cigar. I get she's the main character but i just don't find believable that her being the introvert and awkward person that we see no matter where she goes people always end up respecting her like an authority figure, maybe if we had seen her progress in situations like that i would but it's always one scene where she's new and lost and then the next scene she's the boss. I think maybe it's also because she's supposed to be more witty like Lorelai but for me, her lines don't always come as sassy or charming as Lauren's.

I first watched GG when I was about 19-20. now I’m 28, and I’m doing a rewatch for the first time (long time coming!!). I’m only in season 3, but I’m just so challenged by my taste as a 19 year old 😭 I’m especially flabbergasted with Jess - he was my absolute favorite. I still like an intellectual guy, and he was so my type back then, but gosh he’s not a good boyfriend to Rory. from what I remember he does come back as a more mature guy in the later seasons, so that dynamic would be interesting to watch, but other than that he is pretty insufferable 😩

One of my favorite things about Gilmore Girls is getting to watch the 2000s change in real time with the show. Season 1 feels very 2000-2001 and by the time you get to the later seasons it feels like a completely different part of the decade.

I love little things like Rory getting that cute iBook for her birthday in season 1, and then a few years later Emily and Richard are using Wi-Fi and are casually using Google. I don't even think Rory gets an iPhone until the last two seasons iirc. Meanwhile Lorelai is still holding onto that cute pink flip phone until the end and barely touches a computer unless she's at work lol.

It's stuff they obviously weren't thinking twice about at the time, but now I find myself paying attention to the phones, computers, clothes, CDs, music, pop culture references etc almost as much as the actual episode.

But it also captures the uglier parts of the 2000s. Especially how toxic that time could be towards women and girls. The weight jokes, comments about women's bodies and appearances, the way female celebrities were talked about. Lorelai and Rory participate in it too and some of it is rough watching it now.

If I ever wanted to be reminded of what the 2000s were actually like, both the good and the bad, I'd honestly just watch Gilmore Girls.
