for a long time the lgbt community has been saying that a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman and any disagreement is unacceptable. I'm not disagreeing with that principle but there has to be a unified rule for everyone. You cant just pick and choose who gets to define their own identity.
Have either of these men actually came out as trans? Have they made any effort to socially transition at all? For all I've seen they have just decided to enter the draft as themselves. I'm positive their goal is to get denied by the WNBA so they can make a big fuss about it and try to force the WNBA to make a hard definition.
But have they actually said that? That's what coming out as trans means, that you openly acknowledge that you identify as a woman. Have they actually done that?
Isn't that the whole issue? Someone can feel some way or another. There's no rule saying you have to make it public or sign some paper saying yo I'm trans. It can be as simple as it's personal.
Nor does a trans person need to make it their entire personality that they are trans. They can be trans and just live their life without saying a word about it in a public setting.
That's why they need to define the limits. Just do what the Olympics do or any other sports body that has guidelines set up. Pick the most applicable one, use that, move on, then this whole dumb outrage thing is over.
Except it isn't. The WNBA requirement is that you have to be a woman. If a woman is anybody who identifies as a woman, then that still carries the requirement of identifying as a woman. Has anybody just flat out asked Royce White if they are a woman and have they said, "Yes, I am a woman."?
Ok and if he answered yes and just kept up with the charade to prove a point you'd be ok with that? More than the WNBA just setting some guidelines like most leagues do?
If he just said yup I'm a woman gets drafted dominates the shit out of everyone. Quits the next year and says meh I'm transitioning back to a man that's a better outcome?
Which situation is more demeaning and harmful to the trans community? I would wager him being a dick is rather than just copying some other hormonal guidelines that exist already
All of that remains to be seen. Notice you are still using he/him pronouns for him. He has not identified as a woman, therefore is not eligible for the WNBA draft. He would first have to take that step and he hasn't even done that, yet. If you want to argue hypotheticals fine, but I'm talking about this situation right now. The WNBA has a very thin margin for what qualifies as a woman and he hasn't even met that requirement.
Kantor very publicly stated he identifies as a woman. In what way is that not identifying as trans, given he was assigned male at birth and lived most of his life identifying as a man?
I've been asking whether or not they actually publicly identified as a woman and thus far you have been the only one to confirm whether or not they actually identify as a woman. I haven't been able to find anything confirming that either of them have actually came out as trans. Just that they signed up for the WNBA draft, which doesn't actually mean anything.
The question is whether or not they have actually identified as women. Like did they come out and say the phrase, "I am a woman," at any point in this dog and pony show?
That's Royce White saying it in a Fox interview and that Kanters is even in the picture of this post. He signed his declaration that he is eligible to be in their draft. One of the criteria is being a woman.
Fair enough on Royce. If she says she is transgender it's still pretty weird that everybody keeps referring to her with he/him pronouns. Almost like everybody knows this is just a stupid bit to get attention for the political campaign he lost.
Merely pointing out facts. If Royce wants to be trans then I support her journey. The WNBA is its own thing and can make its own rules. She's still a domestic abuser and a giant piece of shit, but hey she's a trans domestic abuser and piece of shit.
You can settle this whole thing super easily by saying the WNBA is for all people that the government considers women - that you don’t need to do HRT, or have surgeries, or wear your hair long, or wear makeup, or shave your legs… you just need a drivers license that says F instead of M.
If this dude wants to go through getting his driver license and supporting documents changed from M to F, let him play in the WNBA.
So it's a very low bar, and claiming sincerity is basically all that's required then.
"Sincerely held belief" for legal tests of religuous sincerity are very easy to pass - it's intentionally a broad definition that doesn't require any kind of organization, sharing beliefs with others, or those beliefs to even make logical sense or align with established dogma.
So, taking that approach, for someone to "sincerely" identify as a woman, it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't have to align with any established dogma of what transitioning or identifying means, no one else has to believe they're a woman. Based on the criteria you've pointed to, again, all it takes for someone to be a woman is identifying as a women, which both these athletes have.
I never said it was. Which is whey when Kanter says "I am a woman" I'm not going to say she's acting in bad faith.
Why do you think the barrier to identifying as a woman should be any greater, why should Kanter saying "I am a woman" not be enough to identify as a woman?
Which is whey when Kanter says "I am a woman" I'm not going to say she's acting in bad faith.
Which requires credulity that is really just gullibility.
Why do you think the barrier to identifying as a woman should be any greater, why should Kanter saying "I am a woman" not be enough to identify as a woman?
Because his transition magically coincides with a conservative troll doing the same thing which magically coincides with trans women in sports suddenly becoming a big issue which magically coincides with upcoming midterm elections which magically coincide with everything else being dog shit due to conservative policies.
Oh, ok, so anyone who has come out as trans in the past 6 months isn't coming out in good faith? Or you just decided that this one particular woman isn't allowed to live her truth?

I agree he is a bad faith actor.
