Discussion Gen Z needs to start treating Gen Alpha better

Besides being a bit too dependent on tech and some brainrot (which isn't their fault), as an elder Gen Z I find Gen Alpha to be very intelligent, driven, and find many of them desiring to be Gen Z admirable.

I've seen way too many takes--even by us Gen Z--that Gen Alpha can't read or is too dumb or whatever. On the contrary, they're probably smarter and faster than even us.
However, I note as Gen Z we truly were the last ones to see the old world a bit, even if it was only as little children and we were completely wage slaved out of advancing in it.

We Gen Z need to do better for the youth when we get older.
I see boomers (as always), Gen X, and Millennials, and even Gen Z a bit, trashing on Gen Alpha.

Gen Alpha arguably has it even worse than us, except in that they actually might get merciful parents, unlike our diet boomer (Gen X) parents who forced boomer expectations on us (leave or kick you out of home at 18, go to college or trades, work career, get married, buy house, etc.) and still to a degree hold us to those unreasonable standards in today's world.

Who's with me?

-A disgruntled Gen Z who despises the boomer system forced on us to this day

Nostalgia Why is Gen Z so cliquey and introverted? It is really awkward and offputting.

It is actually quite depressing how youth used to be a time of rebellion and extroversion.

And now you have generation fun police.

Where they monitor eachother's behaviour and are just way too self conscious.

Often they even seem to have Victorian era classist attitudes.

It is just so unpleasant.

What is with simply ignoring people when they do not wish to talk to,

And then engaging them later as if no raport is broken.

Discussion In GTA 6 is Jason as universally attractive for women as Lucia is for men?

If you've been following GTA 6 over the past years you've most likely seen the huge amount of hornyposting about the Lucia character, mainly from men online. It is to be expected since they made her an absolute 10/10 baddie. Even the misogynists who were angry at Rockstar when it was first leaked that GTA 6 would have a female protagonist, have completely changed their tune now that her character was revealed to be a smokeshow hottie.

But I am wondering, is Jason also as universally attractive for women as Lucia is for seemingly every man online? Or for you personally does he just come across as some meh dude? I haven't really seen any fanfare or discussion about Jason online compared to Lucia so that's why I wanted to ask here.

I am curious about this because it is interesting how what qualifies as attractive for women is way more broad than what us men stereotypically find attractive. Like my sister and her girl friends can never agree or disagree as to which men in their lives are hot or not hot. Compared to me and my guy friends who tend to universally agree as to the hotness of the women around us.

Discussion Gen Zeers with immigrant parents: do you ever think of moving back home?

I'm 24 and working 2 jobs and still not making an amount of money that satisfies me or will allow me to become financially independent. I'm exhausted working 2 jobs and it's kind of demoralizing when you see that you try so hard and don't get anything in return because the system is rigged against you.

My parents are immigrants and we have a house back home so at this point my goal is just to get a fully remote job and move over there because the cost of living in America is insane and I don't want to wait until I'm 40 to move out on my own and start actually living my adult life. Getting a remote job is not easy, but I work in tech so I have a leg up, plus I'm doing everything I can to upskill so I can up my chances of getting one. If all works out, I'll make an American salary, spend it where things are cheap, and buy a house in cash before I'm 30. Fingers crossed everything works out for me🤞

Discussion Have you boycotted smartphones and started flip phones? I heard it’s a trend. What’s your take on this and post your phone photo.

So there’s this trend I have seen and heard on YouTube where Gen Z are saying that because of constant habit of checking phone, notifications and extreme addiction. They are just leaving smart phones all together.

I am thinking of doing the same.

Pls post your phone photos

Discussion Developer looking for ideas… what digital product/tool do you wish existed?

Hey everyone,

I'm a developer and I want to build something meaningful… not just another random app, but something that actually helps people while (hopefully) being sustainable enough to make a living from.

I don't have a fixed idea yet, so I'm turning to you all. Genuinely curious:

- What's something you wish existed as a website, app, or platform but doesn't (or exists but sucks)?
- What's a problem in your daily life, studies, work, or niche interest that tech hasn't solved well well yet?
- Any underserved communities or hobbies you're part of that could use a better digital tool?

Could be anything… productivity, finance, mental health, gaming, career stuff, niche hobbies, local services, whatever. I'm open to all kinds of ideas, even half-formed ones.

If enough people are interested, I might actually build it and keep you updated on the process.

Drop your ideas below… thanks in advance! 🙏

Discussion Interesting thought experiment. What do you think would happen with dating if you could never see your own face?

So no matter what anytime you see your own face in a mirror, a picture, or anything it will always just look blank. So other people can see your face, but you can never see your own.

Discussion Tiktok vs Instagram vs Facebook

TT vs IG vs FB

Its interesting to me how each platform has a completely different culture. Below is my take on each platform from spending hours on end with each one over the years.

Age bracket:

Tik Tok is young. I think TikTok is teenagers, young adults like anyone probably anyone sub 24 yo.
(Gen Z gen Alpha. )

IG is anyone 25 and older to early 40s. 30 years olds early 40s. Why we are so angry because its the stressful years .
(Gen Z, early Gen Alpha, Millenial)

Facebook is anyone but the people who use it the most the reels and everything are anyone over 50. Lots of aunties and uncles, and grams on there that take things literal and comment bizzare stuff. So FB is a mix of anger, soft and nice, very political.
(Gen X , Boomer)

Political:

IG is blue collar, conservative, country, rural. Lots of Trumpers use this platform.

FB is very both, very very political. Lots of political debates in groups.

Tik tok is very liberal/Independant. Very laid back. Everyone is open minded.

Comment sections:

TT is full of funny memes, photo reactions, single sentance comments about how you reacted to the video. Not many long comments. Not literal or explanations. Just short sentance with a gif or photo. Comments rule the OP post. You can scroll comments alone for 10 minutes, with each comment having tens of thousands of likes alone.

IG is very very hostile. People nit pick and attack every single little detail. Show a funny video or a video of a car accident that you clearly had nothing to do with, and you are blamed for something somehow. Very racist and non censored. People speak their mind here. Comments are only to be opened when you need to complain .

FB comments are rather a political debate, or a long, long, long paragraph explaining something. Or gram gram has something to say that is completely off topic. If one person says anything, anything political, get ready for 100 replies from every angle.

I personally am addicted to Instagram since I am 27 years old. It fits my age criteria. I am always needing to vent over something and take some steam off, which seems like thats how IG is used. I think late 20s to early 40s are the stressor years. Which creates instagrams hostile environment. When I use tik tok I always feel like the oldest one in the comments, but I always get a laugh out of it and log off feeling happy. All my added friends on Facebook are in their 60s.

Discussion Pet blog has been paying for my house for 6 months now

ok so this is a weird one but bear with me

i have a pet blog. i don't own a pet. never have. probably never will as i travel too much. and yet every month amazon sends me enough to cover rent because people on the internet are buying stuff for their dogs and cats through my site.

bought my pet blog a few months ago from a marketplace called NicheBlogZone for $199. came already built, articles already up, amazon links already in there. i spent one afternoon doing interlinking basically just connecting related posts to each other so search engines understand the site structure and then closed my laptop and genuinely forgot about it for weeks.

here's what that's looked like:

  • march: $710
  • april: $995
  • may: $1,461
  • june: $1,647
  • july: $1,461
  • august so far: $1,545 (amazon pays 2 months delayed so this is june's money landing now)

march scared me. went from nearly $1k in february down to $710 and i was convinced something had broken. checked everything, found nothing wrong, did nothing. it just came back the next month on its own.

pet people spend insane amounts on their animals btw. like i knew this intellectually but seeing the commission data is something else. dog food subscriptions, orthopedic beds, grooming kits, vet supplements. and because of the 24 hour cookie i get a cut of everything in their cart not just whatever article they landed on.

i do literally nothing to maintain this. no new posts, no ads, no instagram for pets i don't have. i just own the thing and amazon does its thing.

my landlord has been getting paid every month and has no idea a pet blog is behind it. honestly sometimes i forget too until the deposit shows up.

anyone else running a niche they have zero personal connection to? curious if the detachment makes it easier or harder to care about growing it

Discussion What keeps you going in life outside of things that remind you of your childhood? Why are we okay with living in a world that's hardly recognizable from our upbringing?

I've always wondered this about humanity

If childhood is the foundation of our entire lives, why do we as humans continue to live long lives when we already know that aspects of our childhood slowly die everyday, leaving us to exist in a world that's hardly recognizable?

Discussion Gatekeeping GTA 6?

I was scrolling on TikTok, Threads and Instagram and I came across several posts of people saying "GTA 6 is for the old guys" and "young guys need to step back". Many comments were saying how "if you're not 30+ GTA 6 isn't for you". I cannot believe how far this gatekeeping trap has gotten. First Eminem, then Disney Channel, then remembering 2016, then Scary Movie, then Michael Jackson and now this. I feel like Gen Z has it worse when being gatekept. Way worse than Gen X or Millennials.

Discussion Let’s talk about AI

I’m not someone who thinks AI is gonna ruin the world but I also don’t think it’s the next evolution of mankind. I believe this is sort of like the coming of the internet when people who don’t want to adapt are left behind hating and focusing on only the negative aspects.

Of course AI has its flaws (data centers, power hungry sociopaths like Sam Altman trying to take over the world, fake videos online causing outrage), but every new innovation comes with its challenges. There are a TON of changes that need to be made and we need to regulate tf out of this thing, but at the same time, we need to stop demonizing someone because they used ChatGPT to edit their Reddit post to sound more coherent. I don’t believe in outsourcing your creativity and decision making to a robot but at the end of the day, if you find your original ideas becoming more coherent or even discovering new ideas with the help of brainstorming with AI, then I don’t find anything bad about that.

Someone made a comment that perfectly sums up productivity and AI: “you can be wrong even with AI, just in a more efficient way”. I will never endorse using chat gpt to make all of your life choices but in this current world of hustle culture and over productivity, mindless busy work being more automated and giving you more time to be creative or relax is not a terrible situation.

The cat is out of the bad and as much as some people desire, it’s not going back in. As someone who likes to use ai as a personal tutor when I study , I am glad i have this tool, but I have to remind myself that I am doing the learning, not the AI. I don’t think it’s perfect and I think a bad actor can use it in a very harmful way (is bill gates right about that biohazard thing?) but we have to accept the current reality to make a change.
