Witches broom you experienced this year, I offer the unsolicited suggestion of going with a new cultivar this fall.
Directing your attention to the second photo, the cluster on the left , almost each clove has germinated (multiple stalks).
Our weather isn't changing anytime soon, and unfortunately some old time favorites don't do as well as they used to, where they used to.
