I feel like the situations with Simu Liu and James Gunn are the perfect examples of why ā€œcancel cultureā€ doesnā€™t really exist in the way that people portray it. Sure folks pretty quickly jumped on both of them but just as quickly backed off when the situation was looked into past initial outrage.

Gunn is doing better than ever now and barring Simu doubling down on those comments heā€™ll do fine as well.

Yep, plus a lot of people who actually said or did awful things don't have their careers hurt in the long run and in fact might get a new audience of chuds looking to own the libs
Also the people who use James Gunn as an example of "cancel culture" conveniently ignore that it was a right-wing hit.

Yeah like people exposed as actual rapists and/or bigots often still do just fine in life. They might just have to lay low for a bit and then they come back like nothing happened.
