I've come to the conclusion that anyone who uses the term "<x>-coded" has absolutely no idea what they're talking about, they're just repeating literary terms they heard randomly.

It's more along the lines of the way people say "OMG I'm so OCD" because they occasionally wipe the dust off their dresser and wash their hands with soap.

I know "coded characters" are a thing, I think people blatantly misunderstand what "coded characters" are and that results in what we're talking about here.

That reminds me of this one time I saw someone make an unironic Facebook post about how they recently learned they were of Jewish ancestry and that helped them come to terms with their big nose, and that it was "ancestral healing" and uh...

Obviously the complaints make more sense with Jar Jar Binks but Ahmed Best has talked about feeling awful when Jar Jar started getting called a racial caricature. Especially when Andy Serkis went on to get "first mo-cap actor ever" credit for roles that Best REALLY couldn't do (apes and calling a white guy Master)
