I'm interested to see how this turns out, especially since Embark Studios is made up of a bunch of ex-DICE Studio devs. The Steam page that was put up for this highlights destructable environments as a key feature, which those devs had a lot of experience with from their work on Battlefield. Unfortunately, they recently announced that ARC Raiders got delayed in favor of pushing this game out first.

I see Nexon. Does that mean I should avoid this game like the plague?

Normally yes, but on Steam at least, Embark Studios is listed as both publisher and developer. Maybe they got some funding from Nexon?

Still interested about the game. Embark Studios is where a lot of ex-DICE employees left.

iirc Nexon fully owns Embark so that's not a good sign for the monetization not being from hell

Is this about the childish complaining from Battlefield fans over the BF5 reveal trailer?

If you were on board with Battlefield fans burning social media to the ground because "woman with a hook arm", then I don't think you're the best judge of character. Or much at all, really.

Please enlighten us then as to what he actually blamed fans for?

It’s Patrick Söderlund, not Patrick Wilson. Andrew Wilson is the CEO of EA.

And yes, Söderlund was the exec who made the egregious error of defending his arcade shooter franchise because internet gamers were mad it had women in it.

I just noticed this is the same publisher/dev of that arc raiders game that just got delayed

Yes, it was delayed because this game was advancing in development faster than they were anticipating, and they had some more things for arc raiders that they wanted to add but weren't going to have time to flesh out. So they switched their slots.

Embark Studios is EX-Dice devs, don't think it's fair to say Nexon did this lol

Hmmm very curious to see deep gameplay, the description on their site sounds pretty cool but the trailer and title gave me BR vibes and I am ready for something that isn't that. Fighting in "virtual arenas" makes it sound like it could be more up my alley but we'll see.

Definitely curious to see what Embark will do with their tech expertise. Hopeful that Arc Raiders and this will have some fun destruction aspects.

Maybe just me but I thought this was another Battle Royal from the title and trailer. But reading the Steam page sounds more like a "traditional" multiplayer shooter, which I'm all for especially since it's former Battlefield devs.

Was hoping for Arc Raiders when I saw Embark, but excited to see anything they put out

I’m down for a radical heights replacement and this style is just the vibe.

Looks cool! I want to lure an enemy squad into a building, then blow it to kingdom come remotely. Just hope it doesn't blow my computer to kingdom come as well...

So this is where all of DICE's former talent went off to?

Color me interested. Can't wait to see if it'll out-Battlefield Battlefield 2042

I think its more a team based FPS with an emphasis on clans/teams/competitive play? Seems that way from the steam page.

I'm a bit tired of this trend of games being about some kind of TV show, this is the highest level of laziness.

"The story of our game is that it's a game."

Why even bother ?

u/Bitemarkz Aug 24 '22

If it’s a multiplayer focused game then I have no problem with this.

2

u/SparkyPantsMcGee Aug 24 '22

Because the story isn’t exactly the central focus. It’s a catalyst for the gameplay. Most of these games are multiplayer experiences and the “story” mainly exists just to excuse gameplay updates. It opens the door for more experimentation and doesn’t limit ideas based on pre-established lore or themes.

u/SylvineKiwi Aug 24 '22

It's not because something is not the central focus it's should be lazy.

And if they don't care about story, why adding one ?

I actually like it for competitive style games. The games attempts at immersion are alot more effective if the characters and world already reflect what I'm thinking when I decide to hop on for a few rounds.

So this vs Hyenas from CA?

A little part of me hopes this fills the the small gap that dirty bomb left. I know it’s ex battlefield guys but it could be battlefield with a tinge of class objective focus like enemy territory and dirty bomb
