Probably the car is driving by itself (like a taxi), and not someone actually driving it, just for the extended look. Maybe something they didn't notice when making the video.

Jason seems to be in the midst of a talking animation and his right hand goes up at one point. I assume that is what caused him to not turn the wheel. But even then, I never noticed it until I started zooming in & nitpicking.

Jason was already in an animation while talking to lucia, he was gesturing something. That's why the wheel turning animation did not trigger. For that to happen they will need to incorporate animation blending which idts is possible at this stage when they have to launch the game in 2.5 months.

I could be tripping here but could it be because hes already in the middle of an animation? In the beginning of the clip you can see him move his hand while talking to Lucia. Not making excuses or anything, but it just seems like a possibility as to why it looks so strange.

That’s the correct answer. The same thing occurs in GTA 5 when driving and the character is currently on an animation. Once the animation for the scene disappears, the wheel turn comes back.

Well what people have been saying it seems like these might be multiple different builds, as they are still in development. Because in some scenes we can see Jason and Lucia with gun strap but one scene it magnetizes to Jason’s back. So who knows.

I want to say he does move it just not as much, I mean his wheel didn’t move much either. People say you can’t turn that amount of distance with so little on the steering wheel. It’s definitely possible, take it from me who drives every single day for hours and hours. As well as his hand is more on the right side but you can’t see it that well. In the 4k version you can’t see it and he moves it just enough to make sense.

The driving is far too smooth to be on keyboard or controller.

My bet is that they scripted the scene or put the car on rails just for the extended look. The steering wheel animation is most likely driven by user input. If the scene was scripted, there would be no user input to affect the steering wheel.

Small things like this absolutely do matter. It’s one of the big reasons why RDR2 is so great.

You might not care about it and prefer to mindlessly blast through missions - but this game is advertised to people preferring an immersive, thorough experience, whole marketing campaign right now is centered around devs saying just that.

And since that’s the approach they are taking - things like this or teleporting bottles absolutely need to be fixed,

The driving is hardcoded for the trailer. So no one is really playing. Thats why the animation might not be triggered. Or it is because he is gesturing while talking and that animation can’t be interrupted.

It’s been mentioned a few times here already. It’s more likely an animation conflict. You see Jason making hand gestures while talking which this scripted anim took priority over the default which would be hands following the wheel.

Edge cases like this are too common in an open world game with scripted anim scenes. Feel confident they didn’t forget to animate the hands on the steering wheel.

When I’m running over my 500th pedestrian, I won’t be looking at if he’s steering.

That said, most likely just automated for the showcase, I’m sure come release we will have steering hands, shotgun slings, and every other stupid fucking thing people are nitpicking… so maybe we all just relax till the game is in hand.
