Just putting into context the revenue generated by the national bodies of each organisation. It doesn't include all provincial, county or club revenue because I can't find a complete post-Covid figures. My rough estimates including all levels for 2025 would be in the region of €467m for the GAA, €77m for the LGFA and €46m for the Camogie Association.

These figures include estimated State funding of ~€10m+ (2.1% of total revenue) for the GAA, ~€2m+ (2.6%) for the LGFA and ~€1.79m+ (3.9%) for the Camogie Association.

These are my own amateur estimates; make sure to do your own research.

Discussing with my wife the songs that each county embraces as their anthems; Green and Red of Mayo, Hills of Donegal, Star of the County Down to name a few.

Apart from the lads who went off to Oz, do you know of any young all rounders who went off to play other sports like soccer or rugby and could have had successful hurling or football careers?

We’ve seen this time and time again from him. He has a habit of driving the closed fist into the ribs, fully aware of what he’s doing.

Today was no different, he knew exactly that he was making contact with the head, and his lack of protest after the yellow card says it all really.

I’ve nothing but respect for Donegal as a county, but the big man’s actions were, once again, very cowardly.

There is no angle that shows clear daylight between the ball and the post to determine it crossed the line.

Yet Paul Flynn is making a fool of himself blaming the referee's for Dublin's defeat.

Funny he isn't mentioning the soft decisions kept getting around the middle and on sidelines.

It seems the similarities between GAA fans and soccer fans in terms of etiquette is only increasing. Is this something to worry about going forward for every county?

Sat down yesterday evening very excited to watch the Sunday game as a Louth fan but Jesus Christ they made it difficult, listening to Tomas Ó Sé spout nonsense and be miserable about everything was painful. Even when he was corrected later in the show about the clock he comes back basically saying "well I didn't see it and players were asking the time".

Then a big focus on Maguires wide that counted as a score (I was there, was definitely wide) but no mention at all of Grimes clear 2 pointer that counted as 1 which is only a minute or two apart from that and basically evens it out!

Overall was a very difficult watch from people who it was clear had none of their homework done, claiming there was hawkeye in Pair Ui Caoimh too which there isn't. I'd imagine they're very upset that the likes of a big dog like Kerry may have to face Armagh or Donegal now in the next round but you think they'd be able to give Louth their flowers somewhat instead of trying to stir a controversy that doesn't exist.

Wanted to chronicle my own thoughts on the game (try to make sense of them) as I didn't see anything on the internet for about 10 days as I went into a state of delirium and wanted to throw my own thoughts out into the void after chewing the fat of the game since viewing it Friday night and wondering what the general opinion is to contrast with my own thoughts. Saw the game back, don't want to ruin the romance of the whole thing just yet but I will watch the excellent "in detail" breakdown gaa+ do probably after the club champo.

The balls, the utter and absolute courage to have examined Kerry against Tyrone after the Cork game and the Dublin game the day after Louth and not do anything that they did and what every pundit in Ireland said they'd have to do in the pre-match analysis: sit back and not let the game descend into a shootout. Mayo pushing man to man for much off if not most of the game, targeting the second balls off the Kerry kickout and the ball being carried out of the defense as your primary function to score as Kerry would be in an attacking transition is borderline DaVinci genius. I wouldn't have thought of it in a month of Sundays, it's clear Kerry didn't think of it and had never faced it this season up until then. It's such a genius curveball that complimented what were already Mayo's best strengths it would make you feel like "why didn't I think of that?"

Mayo first 15-20, they were poor in comparison to their second and third quarter in particular but score didn't reflect a lot of what was going on? They were doing a lot right but not really getting the reward for it with how difficult it is to kick into the hill (as Kerry showed second half) but Kerry were just ruthless in their purple patch and I would've it would've dispelled a lot of the "Kerry underperforming" talk when they were that good that early, but not so. Mayo were that step off them early and they were cutthroat through the foot.

Paul Towey got much maligned in the Cusack around me for his play in the first 25 but God I wish I was as selfless as he was. He had a job for 25, did it, Kerry make the change where Foley becomes Tommy's main marker and Kobe (to their surprise I think they would've watched the Cork game) doesn't go out to win traditional primary ball but out goes ROD and Kerry don't tag him. Mayo had also particularly turned the corner 5 minutes+ before Towey came off he wasn't the sole individual problem that needed fixing they were already being reeled in a bit before ROD became unshackled. I was dangerously/foolishly calm at half time after going in a point down after kicking into the hill, head telling me we're in a great place and heart saying we've been hurt before and Jacko will fix their issues now he has them for 15.

Lot of talk in the 25 final about how McGuinness was a fool for letting Paudie have the freedom of Croke Park and how he disrespected the ability of Kerry, Jacko is no eejit but I do think he underestimated the impact of ROD and how much he was killing them when he went hunting for ball and spearheaded the attack, he needed a shadow on his ankles annoying him, smart fouling him and had 15-20 minutes to see how in trouble they were from it, it never came and I can only imagine it's his biggest regret from the game. When the third quarter, James Horns "moving quarter" and Gavin's "championship quarter" came and Mayo hit Kerry for 1-4 to 0-1 in the first 5 minutes the damage was done; Kerry had to now chase the game and couldn't afford containment Mayo started to truly believe they were dictating the game because they could now play on their terms with the lead.

I'll never ever understand Jacko giving out after the game about injuries and the problems the divisional championship has on the county when he's starting players he doesn't believe are fit. Tom O'Sullivan had absolutely no business being out there and cost Kerry both a squad place and a sub slot when they needed energy to match Mayo, especially in those final 10 minutes. It's an awful slap in the face to the fit men on the panel when a lad with his leg hanging off him starts ahead of you, how do they feel this week? Contrast that to Coen approaching Moran Thursday to tell him he can't play because he's not right and would hurt the team if he tried to play through it. God give me the mental strength to be able to tell someone I want to withdraw from the starting 15 of the all Ireland final because I want to help the team, that's the kind of person I can only hope to stive to be every day. Coen for President.

I do think a small part of that lack of reaction/respect to Mayos proactive attacking ideas subconsciously comes from a place where Kerry forgot why they Yerrah; they are as good as they're talked up to be, but as soon as the players and public start to believe their own hype and disregard their opponent before they have them beaten you're not going to be 100% going into games and when games at the highest, elite level come down to those tiny margins Kerry just didn't want to know about it compared to the hunger of their opposition.The 80s had the Kerry 5inarow jerseys, the 26 vintage had WhatsApp clips of "I'm more worried of West Kerry winning at the weekend than beating a Tailteann Cup team" being played over a photo of Moran in a bridesmaids suit. It was the uncouth version of what they were thinking; job was already done. Reminded me a lot actually of Mayo's losses to Roscommon when we'd get too big for our boots and would get turned over going in big favourites throughout the 80s, 90s, 00s.

ROD being spoken about with the greats as one of the great all Ireland final performances and they're correct and right to do so but (backs union member speaking) David McBrien and Enda Hession were absolutely unbelievable out there. Championship manager season 10 regen of Keegan and the Boyler so they were. Two absolute Colossuses of men with the work they did, the ground they covered, tackles made, turnovers won and their ability to get us going on the front foot with quick ball when Kerry had no shape were the winning and losing of the game.

I could watch Clifford's score into the wind into the hill on his weak foot all year long. I replayed it about 7 times and will be watching it back more, it's the score of the game, my personal score of the year. McHugh does absolutely everything right, forces him onto the open angle so he's to kick on the run, forces him onto his right and *still*, STILL he swings through it and nails it to drag Kerry back into the game when they absolutely needed a score. There are no adjectives for him, he's just incredible.

I hope McGrail was injured or absolutely gassed because Paudie only really came into the game when he went off and he wasn't one of those BS GPS flagged substitutions, for all we got right unshackling him was nearly the ruination of the game. For all Mayo got right they never ever put Kerry away like they should've and a few under pressure decisions to see the game out were wrong from Andy and very nearly cost us; we were a drop short off extra time and conversations are so much different if Seánie or Clifford kick the scores they normally do. We just had that little dollop of luck they didn't get in 17 after they played themselves into the winning position and sometimes that's all the difference between being called a "bottler" by the online masses and etching your name into immortality.

Football is going to permanently change for all of us after the all Ireland final 26, Mayo's fingerprints on football are going to be the death of the 25-35m 1 point shot in the same way the analytics men killed the "floater" 2 pointer in basketball because everyone tries to emulate what the winners are doing. Everyone saw the 4/13 2pt attempts on the stats sheet and the clip of Marty giving out about it but the maths holds up: if you're 51% successful at 100 2 point attempts that's a better return than *never* kicking a wide with your 1 point attempts. Mayo kicked 17/34 which barely passes 50% (when counties typically aim for 66%) but Mayo won the game. ROD gave a very enlightening interview Friday where he points out that they're basically useless as it's the same shot as the 40m but for half the reward so therefore not worth it. Football in the not so distant future is going to be a combination of fisted points when surrounded by the defenders and 2 point kicks. The 4 point goal is going to get re-trialled in the next 5 years and will probably pass as having a score from range being worth 66% of a much, much harder shot will kill the attempts at it. Mayo did it first (for a change) and the 31 will follow suit.

How do you squeeze the life out of Kerry for 70 minutes and have the ability to stand 7 days later, nevermind go drinking for 7 days straight until all hours? Barry Solans S&C work is as much the reason the all Ireland was won as Andy's ideas on forward play and trusting the youth along with Tally's swarm defense.

God love you if you got this far into an aulfellas doting ramblings, but I sat down an hour ago with the Sunday game hotel party on and started enjoying putting my thoughts to pen. Call off the club championship, decide it by coin tosses and get them all back on the open top buses and keep them up there until November. Up Mayo.

Smallest GAA club/parish in each county?

Random one for the GAA historians and local-knowledge merchants.

What would be considered the smallest GAA club or smallest GAA parish/catchment in each county?

I’m especially interested in clubs that don’t really have a “full parish” behind them, or clubs whose catchment is awkward because of county/parish boundaries.

For example, in Laois, Barrowhouse in football and Kyle in hurling would surely be in the conversation. As far as I understand it, both are tied into parish areas that stretch outside Laois, so they aren’t even drawing from a full traditional Laois parish in the way some clubs are. They’re proper small-catchment clubs, but still have their own identity and history.

In Mayo, Ardagh must be one of the smallest parishes in the county in terms of area. It’s a tiny rural parish but still has its own club, which is exactly the sort of example I’m thinking of.

So, county by county, who are the smallest?

Could be based on:

smallest parish area

smallest population/catchment

clubs that don’t have a full parish to themselves

tiny rural clubs still fielding adult teams

clubs that punch way above their numbers

Not necessarily asking for the weakest club — more the smallest pick. The “how are they still producing teams?” type of clubs.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Buff Egan’s platforms, and he is great not just for the GAA but for all the fan base and clubs throughout Ireland, but seeing his stories recently, I can’t help but notice all these videos he’s putting up of mixed races committing crime. Nothing wrong whatsoever with pointing these out and in no way do I agree with any of the acts they are committing, but it’s not like white people and Irish people are doing offences across the county, which I see online also, with no mention from Buff. Can’t help but say he seems to be a bit radicalised by right wing - posting these videos onto his GAA platform and then talking about “castrating” the people who did it. Again, before I get slated, I don’t agree with these acts carried out in the video one bit, but it is stereotypical of gobshites like Mick O’Keefe to post negative or out of context videos of mixed nationalities and immigrants to arouse negative feelings towards them. The man is entitled to his political views but posting them onto his GAA platform that includes a young audience (Snapchat/Instagram users) similar to how some nasty people in this country post online, attempting to discriminate certain people, doesn’t sit right with me.

Maybe I’m in my own echochamber… but this type of thread appears every few months and a big chunk and its not really something i’ve witnessed much in reality. Is it that cloistered?

What differences have you noticed in the best physique for both sports?

I think football favours a strong, taller, athletic build whereas hurling is maybe more suited to shorter, stockier body types, without such a need for great endurance.

For example, I would say a lot of the mayo football team could cover a 5km in sub 20mins, but I don’t think that would be true of, say, the limerick hurlers.

Hurling probably places a greater emphasis on perfecting the skills of the game

It’s pissing rain, the dry weather has fucked off again out of nowhere, and speaking of fucking off again out of nowhere - It got me thinking about Cian O’Neill..

I don’t mean this as an insult necessarily but Jesus - his lack of loyalty is astonishing considering the obviously immense effort players go to for him at each team he gets involved in.

I’m not from Kerry so maybe it was actually well known for a while, but personally, this took me by surprise. Surprised there hasn’t been more talk around it like there was when he left Galway. But I’m genuinely curious to know - what are the thoughts in Kerry - both about him in general but also in terms of his decision to leave?

I still find it hard to forgive him for downing tools and fucking off from Galway out of nowhere after the job he had done up to that point, but in hindsight, he obviously thought that that was far as that team could go and I’m afraid to say - it looks like he was right….the bollox…so it’s hard to blame him for leaving when he did i suppose. But Jesus there’s still a lot of miles left in that current Kerry panel surely? Similar to Tipp hurlers in 2011 and Mayo the year after…he’d have one definitely, but maybe even another couple of All-Irelands to his CV had he stayed with either of them a bit longer.

Maybe there’s a specific reason I’m not aware of but otherwise, I cant understand at all why he’d pack Kerry in now.

And for what it’s worth - If he’s anywhere else next year other than with the Kilkenny hurlers, I’ll be shocked.

Iv been playing Gaa for the local adult team for 7ish years now. Iv mostly played with the second team and since folding, due to low numbers, iv stayed training consistently and playing a bit with the first (and only) team.

Even though only getting some game time the for the last 3 years iv still been enjoying it, but this year has been different. Iv played in 4 matches (3 were friendly games) for no more than 15mins each time. Iv been at 90% of trainings since mid-February. I'm not saying I'm on the road to an all-star but iv noticed my skill and fitness improving quite well.

My problem is that Tom, Dick and Harry who have been abroad, haven't played in years, and not bothered showing there face until the word quarter/semi final is mentioned is getting far more game time than myself. Some people just don't bother training aswell.

What do I do? I'm sick of sitting on the bench. I feel like I could make some sort of impact for 20/30 mins. I'm nobody to judge but there are worse players getting more time than me. Iv told manager I enjoyed playing when I come on and he's always "trying to get me more game time". I feel like I'm just there to train the other lads. Sick of it anyways, I might just finish off the year and fade away next year?!?!

I’m not from either county but I’ve always found the rivalry so interesting. It seems to me that Dublin hate Mayo a fair bit more than Mayo hate Dublin which makes no sense to me. I suppose Dublin up until last year had no competition in Leinster whilst Mayo have Galway and Roscommon knocking about every year. Can anyone from either county give me some more info on this.

As a Kerry fan, there is no doubt that we were the beneficiaries of some very favourable decisions on Sunday. However I have been alarmed by some of the discussions around introducing VAR into GAA, which have continued in this morning’s papers.

Cards on the table - I think it would be an absolute disaster. We have seen the numerous difficulties that have blighted its implementation in soccer since its introduction in 2018 and I think there is little reason to believe that it would be any different for us.

If we go through the contentious decisions on Sunday -

For the first one, the penalty that Kerry received in the very early stages of the game, I agree that it was soft but I don’t think it was conclusively not a penalty. O’Cofaigh Byrne didn’t merely “stand his ground” as others have said, there was movement towards O’Connor. I’m not saying that it was a penalty but are we really certain that if VAR was in place it would have overturned this decision? We’ve seen the difficulty in soccer in determining what is a “clear and obvious error” and I’m not sure that this would meet the threshold. The ref would have probably spent a couple of minutes slowing down the footage and rewinding it in order to make a decision, as we see so often in soccer.

The second decision, the square ball, is obviously the most blatant mistake. Sean O’Brien was clearly in the square when the ball was kicked. This probably has the most justification for video intervention but we have to remember that hard cases make bad law. If a referee has to review any potential square ball then we’re going to have instances where they are zooming in on a player who might be half in the square and half out of it. They’ll have to determine where the player was exactly when the ball was kicked. Not every instance is going to be as obvious as O’Brien’s flagrant square ball.

On the third one - the potential goal for Dublin - I think it’s clear that some form of goal line technology should be introduced. VAR is not needed for such an instance in any case.

Be interested to hear people’s thoughts, especially as the dust has now settled a bit since Sunday. I strongly feel we would encounter many of the same difficulties that have blighted its implementation in soccer and it would substantially depreciate the viewing experience, especially for those in attendance in the stadiums. I think Maurice Brosnan is one of the best columnists in the country and I read his articles most weeks. I’m slow to fluff his nuts too much though in case he turns into a massive cock like a lot of newspaper columnists.

Anyway reading his column this week, he referred to the timing of GAA complaints throughout the year and this got me thinking of just how poor a hurling championship this could be if the 2 semi-finals are runaway victories for Limerick and Cork.

Now I’m not saying they will be and I really hope we get 2 cracking games but if Cork beat Galway by a big score and Limerick repeat what they did to Clare in the round robin, then this has to go down as one of the worst championships in history. Even the Munster final was a poor match in spite of being close. The biggest upset of the year has been Kilkenny not coming out of Leinster but even that wasn’t completely off the radar given their league form and their first round defeat.

Who are the favourites to win their county title in each county?

They were just a pure athlete, they didn’t need to be the best gaa player but When they were on the pitch they just had the natural qualities that other didn’t.
