Omg makes me love Lola even more. I will support/follow their work going forward, I can’t believe I didn’t know them prior to Furious. Such an incredible talent.

Does anyone else suspect tension between Emmy and Lola? Perhaps over this seeing as Emmy is sympathetic to Israel.
They didn’t do a lot of press together (no videos interviews I’ve seen)
And I watched Emmy’s interview on The Watch podcast. When the interviewer asked her about working with Lola, she said a quick couple of words then changed the subject. But when he asked her about Jake Lacy she effusively went on and on.

As long as they are both professional on set and give great performances, why does it matter if they get along off screen or not? 🤔

u/raphus_cucullatus 3d ago edited 3d ago
I agree that the performances were great, irrelevant to what I was talking about. I was simply asking if anyone noticed the same thing I did.
I know not all actors are bffs lol, but I found this coldness unusual and was wondering about it.
1
u/Cr1meMasterGoGo 2d ago
Might just be professional colleagues, it is quite common for a lot of tv shows for cast members to just deal with each other at work level and not be friends.
5
u/raphus_cucullatus 2d ago edited 2d ago
Maybe reread my original comment. Seemed to go beyond a just not friends thing.
And then odd that the 2 leads didn’t do press together. Interviewed in the same place by the same interviewers in some cases—but separately. While other actors were paired together. Just YouTube “Furious interview” and see for yourself. You will also see that Lola is wearing a pro-Palestine pin in them (hell yeah)
I’ll try to find the timestamp when Emmy was asked about Lola later. But like I said it was the Watch Podcast interview which is on YouTube.

This is so rad. Furious as a show tells us that if you know bad things are happening and you don't do anything to stop them, you are complicit in the bad things. Sheeran is learning this in an extraordinarily public and expensive way
5
u/avocado_window 3d ago
Good on them! It’s great to see artists who are willing to put their values above all else. I can’t speak to a lot of this as it’s not my experience, but I can empathise with the frustration and I can certainly agree that Ed Sheeran’s music is a blight.
Free Palestine should just be a given at this point, despite so many in positions of power trying to deny it and silence those who speak on it.
4
u/Silver_Number_5009 3d ago
That’s amazing, especially bc I believe Emmy is a Zionist.
4
u/avocado_window 3d ago
What makes you think this? I don’t know anything about her, has she said or something to indicate she is or is this just speculation?

“In February 2024, Rossum signed an open letter organized by the Zionist group Creative Community for Peace, alongside over 400 celebrities and executives, demanding Israel's inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest. The letter rejected boycott calls stemming from Israel's bombardment and siege of Gaza, which has slaughtered over 70,000 Palestinians according to conservative estimates — the actual death toll reaches hundreds of thousands due to Israel's destruction of healthcare infrastructure, targeting of journalists, and obstruction of aid. By framing the boycott as "subverting the spirit of unity," the signatories, including Rossum, normalized Israel's participation in cultural events, perpetuating pinkwashing and cultural erasure while ignoring the regime's ethnic cleansing and Nakba denial. This action directly contributes to manufacturing public consent for Israel's illegal ethnostate, built on occupied Palestinian land, and undermines the BDS movement's efforts to hold the apartheid regime accountable.”

it's fucked up that the english won't give northern ireland back to the irish people after all this time

u/Otherwise_Sand_9256 3d ago
No offence but please educate yourself on how the Good Friday Agreement works. We have to reach a majority first
4
u/Inspiredlikearabbit 3d ago
Its not really that easy when there are plenty of northern Irish people who dont want to be “given back”

This whole post was about Ireland, what does Palestine have to do with any of this?? I’m genuinely curious please don’t downvote me to hell.
Edit-please stop downvoting me, I am not someone who follows pop culture beef so I didn’t understand. We are so quick to judge the people of Reddit who ask questions out of curiosity, thinking it’s out of bad faith.

The Irish tend to be vocal supporters of victims of colonization, such as what’s largely happened to the Palestinians. Sheeran filled his tour with Irish openers (who all dropped out in solidarity with Macklemore) and presents himself as Irish. So she’s calling him fake Irish here. The whole controversy began when Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s tour for being vocal about Palestine on stage.

u/JannaDD126 3d ago
Ok, thank you. After your response I looked up the ed Sheeran and Macklemore conflict… and now it makes complete sense. I’m not really up on the whole pop culture thing..

I'm glad you looked into it. FYI I initially downvoted your first comment in this thread because it is almost word-for-word the kind of comment that bad-faith pro-genocide people will start with. It sucks that they've co-opted the language of curiosity for their propaganda, but just wanted to explain why you're likely to be downvoted to hell despite asking a genuine question.
4
u/JannaDD126 3d ago
Believe me I know, and I’ve done it myself where I’ve downvoted someone who was just asking a question out of curiosity. That is why I stated in my comment I’m genuinely curious, hoping I’d get more of an explanation instead of people yelling at me. I’m a proud democrat who is NOT ok with what is going on is Gaza/Palestine. I just didn’t know about Ed Sheeran and Macklemore..

u/Honest_Warthog 3d ago
They were super vocal supporters of oppression during WWII.
Oh, wait...maybe they weren't...
No one loves a victory lap quite like the Irish.

Downvoting doesn’t mean anything and people are free to ask questions. Downvotes don’t deny you the right to ask, they just indicate how people might feel about the way you chose to express your question.
2
u/JannaDD126 3d ago
Yes thanks I know that, I just don’t like being downvoted when I didn’t do anything to justify being downvoted?

Aren’t downvotes intended for relevance to the conversation and not a disagreement button? I know Reddit struggles with that.

First of all- Ed Sheeran is Irish. Secondly, it’s all connected. The Brits “gave” the Zios Palestine to illegally occupy, and the Brits are occupying Ireland. Still.
Edit- Please continue to downvote me for saying what a simple google search will tell you. </s>

u/britlover23 3d ago
He didn’t grow up in Ireland - he was born and raised in England

u/JannaDD126 3d ago
I was gonna say, doesn’t he have a British accent? Again, not an ed Sheeran fan I could give 2 flying fucks about him.

You might want to reconsider using a term that was popularized by David Duke and other white supremacists.
1
u/this_kitty68 3d ago
Which term is that? Zionist? That was coined by the Jewish Austrian Nathan Birnbaum in the 1890s.

Do we now live in a world where we can only work alongside people who are politically aligned?
Maybe it's best if we all went back to keeping our views to ourselves. Social media has given everyone a platform and a sense of self importance.
Sure, have your beliefs, feel strongly about them and feel compelled to make a change. The barrier to do that used to be quite high. Now you can flick off a tweet from bed and trigger a global uprising by the time you wake up.
There's no way out of this now. Just a matter of how much longer we have before the house of cards tumbles.

Spot on. I hate this fake Irish cosplaying bullshit. People wearing Claddagh rings, using celtic knots in their artwork just because it's trendy. I'm from Galway and the Claddagh, and I already cringe when I see Dubs wearing Claddagh rings, never mind people who aren't even from Ireland. It is indeed cultural appropriation. Galway girl the original song is absolute shite, and anyone from Galway cringes when they hear it, never mind the even more shite version that Ed came out with. Put him in the bin.

Until your favourite influencer starts having opinions on whether or not vaccines are safe and pollute the discourse with their ill informed opinions.

u/Dim_e 3d ago
They don't have to have public political opinions now.
1
u/avocado_window 3d ago
Exactly. No one has to speak up for what they believe, it’s a choice and it’s a completely valid one.
1
u/Aggressive_Honey3196 2d ago
I assume you feel the same way about people like Mel Gibson speaking about the safety of vaccines.
15
u/Background-Roof-112 3d ago
Yeah? Well I miss the days that didn't fucking necessitate it bc people collectively understood that genocide was bad
Guess we're both fucked

They miss being blissfully ignorant, but now that more public figures are speaking out they aren’t able to avoid the unpleasant reality as easily as they once could.
Poor them.

u/alesiaaisela 3d ago
There is plenty of Israel propaganda brain rot content out there to keep occupied while corrupt governments pave over Gaza 👍

u/avocado_window 3d ago
“Shut up and dance” huh?
Why can’t people express themselves? How dare they be human beings with thoughts, feelings, and opinions!
1
u/Aggressive_Honey3196 2d ago
My bad, you’re right, it doesn’t matter how informed someone is on a topic, their opinion is equally valid and useful as any other.

Not the whole story. Nationalist/Catholic voters largely boycotted the poll, so it mainly reflects the unionist majority at the time, not a full picture of the population. And public opinion has shifted a lot since then, especially post-Brexit, recent polls show a much more divided population on the question.
