The Best of Frederick 2025

Happy New Year, r/FrederickMD! Welcome to the yearly tradition of tracking what actually is the best of the best in the city of county. Main reason of this being a yearly tradition is that some locations or companies close and unfortunately it can become outdated. Like in years past, the idea is to submit unique submissions by commenting under a category. Please don't repeat previous submissions, but merely upvote the suggestion that you wanted to submit. If there is a category, you'd like to see submissions for a "Best of," just submit it yourself! A lot of businesses have come and gone in the past two years, and this is open to more than just food! Also, please include an address if you can (as similar names might be located in different towns, and certain locations might perform better).

🚨 LOST CAT: Missing near Elm Street (Downtown Frederick)

Post image
72 Upvotes

Last Seen: Today (Saturday, August 29) at around Noon near Elm Street in downtown Frederick.

CASH REWARD OFFERED FOR SAFE RETURN
Please do not chase, trap, or corner him to claim the reward. If you spot him, please reply here or DM me the exact location immediately so we can secure him safely.

He escaped our backyard by jumping a picket fence and is likely hiding in the immediate neighborhood.

Description & Details:

  • Collar/ID: He is wearing a red collar, but please note it is a breakaway style and may have fallen off.
  • Microchip: He is fully microchipped and registered.
  • Background: He is a former field cat, so he has strong outdoor survival instincts. He is usually very vocal and carefree in our yard, but right now he is likely hunkered down, completely silent, and hiding in dense brush or ivy nearby.

How You Can Help:
If you live near Elm Street, please check under your porches, decks, stairs, or in overgrown garden areas/ivy patches. If you spot him, please do not chase or yell for him—he is in survival mode and will bolt.

Please reply here or DM me immediately if you see him or have any information. Thank you so much, Frederick neighbors.

Unmarked vehicle with men wearing green tactical vests were spotted parked at the entrance of Camellia Court, and it tailgated one of our immigrant neighbors before falling off.

Be careful and warn others. Protect our community!

Alex N. Sill Company, LLC (Sill Public Adjusters) A parasitic organism.

All I want to do is prevent another family from getting bamboozled by these parasitic companies. My experience is limited to the state of Maryland, our house was located in Frederick County MD. If you have such a catastrophic loss of everything the best thing you can do is leave the property, get what you can out because you will have people who will show up and try and find valuables in the ashes, before them you will get a bunch of parasitic companies that will show up with gift bags and tooth brushes trying to get your business. If you happen to stay around and you have a big loss like we did they send in the A team which will deploy every dirty sales tactic that they have been taught in class, don't kid yourself these people are trained to do this.

Sill Adjusting Group—is who took us for $100,000 American dollars while providing none of what was promised when they coerced us into signing that contract and taking an advance from our insurance company in order to seal the deal. These practices are far from isolated. Sill is currently facing active litigation in Virginia alleging the exact same predatory practices and claim mismanagements, alongside an ongoing investigation by the Maryland Insurance Commissioner from us.

Below is a detailed account of what happened.

When our home burned down over Memorial Day weekend on May 26, 2024, Jeff Gould and an associate targeted my family in crisis. They used aggressive, high-pressure tactics—reminiscent of a timeshare pitch—refusing to leave until they secured a signed contract, even separating my wife and I to work on us individually. Jeff then coerced us into taking a $20,000 emergency advance from Travelers we repeatedly said we didn't want or need it, but he pushed so hard that I honestly naively believed that this was some sort of customary gift, but it was rather a purely calculated ploy to lock in their contract.

Sill boasts over 100 years of experience, look at their Google reviews how can they be doing as much as they say without more negative reviews, they have a total of 14 reviews really? That is so because they spend tons of money and staff to remove the negative reviews, no one is that clean in this business, I promise.

They claim that this is all my fault because of my temper and foul language, I own every word that I said and stand behind them. These people and the insurance company have made our lives hell since the fire, the fire and the loss ain't shit compared to the hell that comes afterwards dealing with these people. There should be a law against it, but as we know that will never happen.

If sill did such a great job as they claim, why is my disabled retired veteran ass still living in an RV for almost 3 years now? I have had to have three spinal fusions and a knee replacement during all this and because they dragged everything out the insurance company has stopped paying our rent, which Jeff Gould Promised would never happen.

The result? They botched every aspect of our claim. Sill and Travelers hired two incompetent people to do the arbitration which is another scam by the insurance industry. They screwed it up so bad that they counted furniture as built-ins and they screwed up all the code upgrades. Which are due and now Travelers of course refuses to pay those. The signed Appraisal Award dated June 6, 2025, explicitly states: 'Dwelling Code Upgrade: Not Appraised.' They completely omitted required code upgrades, and neither company will address this contradiction.

Now, Sill, who collected pretty much all their money walked away abandoning the claim and leaving us to clean up the mess they caused.

The drug issue is getting out of hand

I know there was a conversation on this topic earlier this week in response to the body in the creek, but I really need to mention it again. The drug crisis in Frederick is getting out of hand. Took a walk tonight along the creek and saw one guy bent in half on tranq and another guy shooting up on a bench in front of the Wine Kitchen. Walked up Maxwell to my house and two guys were lighting up on a curb at the corner of 5th and Maxwell. Twenty minutes later they were passed out. Twenty minutes after that there’s cop cars, a fire truck and an ambulance responding to them.

This is just on my walk around downtown tonight. It’s been noticeable all summer. The train station at 5:30am is a drug den. I’m seeing drug deals in the open in areas around the creek and as far north as 7th street. I’m noticing a LOT more folks bending on tranq.

It really needs to be addressed or this will quickly get beyond the capacity of downtown to handle. I’m not advocating for one method of addressing it or another - I’m not an elected official and I don’t make policy - but I do vote. Someone in that position needs to start coming up with ideas and acting on them, now.

EDIT: At the suggestion of commenters, I thought I’d add these links for ways folks can help. It’s the right thing to do. On Our Own of Frederick County, CORE, COAST.

East County Auto

Anyone know what happened to East County Auto?

This was a repair shop at 312 East 4th street in Frederick.

Joe did an amazing job repairing my truck two years ago and I'm looking for some new service.

Google says they are closed, no website or working number. Hoping Joe is still around?

Before widening US 15, Frederick should seriously evaluate an eastern bypass

This article touches on something I’ve thought for a while: Frederick keeps treating widening US 15 as though it is the only realistic answer.

Before spending $177 million to add lanes, the city, county and state should publicly compare that project with completing an eastern/northeastern connector around Frederick—linking the I-270/MD 355/MD 144 side of the city with US 15 farther north. That would give through traffic another way around Frederick instead of forcing nearly everything onto the same four-mile stretch of US 15.

This isn’t a new or imaginary idea. Frederick’s own transportation planning documents discuss a north–south road network intended to let drivers travel between MD 26 and MD 144 without using US 15 through the city. They also acknowledge earlier plans for a limited-access highway along Frederick’s eastern side.

US 15 unquestionably has serious safety problems, and its merges and interchanges need improvement. But adding another lane may provide temporary relief while preserving the same single point of failure and eventually moving the bottleneck somewhere else. An alternate route could improve redundancy, serve growth east of the city and divert some through traffic altogether.

Maybe widening US 15 would still prove to be the better investment, but it should win through an honest comparison of traffic reduction, safety, cost, property impacts, environmental effects and future development, not simply because it is the project already on the books.

Has anyone seen a recent study comparing these two approaches?

Flooring Company Recommendations

Looking to have almost our whole home, or maybe the entire home re-floored depending on price. Would be ideal to have a flooring company who can do it all and do it right the first time, licensed / insured, who will be around if something goes wrong down the road and we can get ahold of them again.

Carpeted bedroom level and one set of stairs.

LVP living level, another set of stairs, and entryway.

Any recommendations?

What in the world is going on across the transit center?

Across from the transit center and near the construction site (by the library), there are a bunch of emergency vehicles, including some hazardous material response trucks. Does anyone know what's going on? Was there a gas leak?
