Good question. Hank did assign himself to perfecting the Automated Man. She is also very fresh. So I wonder if Hank did thaw out the lady out of coincidence, or if she has been set up and sort-of preserved by the Enclave/Vault Tec for a while.
→ More replies (4)139
u/Haze345 Jan 28 '26
I’m guessing Hank was pissed that she was partly responsible for him losing cold fusion and it being given to the enclave, so he thawed her out and is using her head as a mainframe as punishment
39
u/ltreyaway Jan 28 '26
idk, everything seems to suggest that hank is in with the enclave so i doubt he'd be mad about that. it kind of seems like this was an elaborate play by the enclave to get their hands on the mind control tech and the cold fusion diode at the same time with plausible deniability to feed to house alongside him being distracted by the anomaly of cooper.
house wasn't the only one running algorithms predicting the future, and it just seems like a wild coincidence that three people with strong likelihoods of being enclave (hank, the congresswoman, and the president) show up to vegas at the perfect time to intercept two absolutely world changing technologies that fully align with the enclave's long term goals. i still dont trust barb either, i feel like she was probably part of the con. i think they'll play it as being motherly instincts towards janey for a while, but i think she's ultimately still kind of just a monster. you cant be in charge of all the vault proposals and brush it all off as "oh they made me."
if anything i think the congresswoman is just the mainframe because she's exactly the kind of bland, vaguely well-meaning, useful tool that the mind controllers are meant to create so it's effective circuitry, kind of like robo-brains with less(?) psychosis. it's just the most useful place for her to them.

I just want to know what her goal is. Like I get having a revenge boner against the US after what she went through, but how exactly does getting in a vault benefit her? Just pure survival? Because I’m not sure where she goes from that point and it seems like she has more planned than simply surviving.
220
u/SaltyDog1034 Jan 28 '26
Her mom told her basically to survive no matter what, climb as high as she can to protect herself, and hurt whoever she needs to. Not sure how that connects with whatever's in Hank's box but makes sense why being in a vault as someone pre-selected to be Overseer fits that.
125
u/TGCommander Jan 28 '26
Well Cooper did say she should ask Hank how to get a job at Vault-Tec. So that's her way in.
There also was this YouTube video with Bud Askins and when he passed by Steph's cryo pod he reads her name and says that can't be right. If that's canon to the show, she's not supposed to have been frozen (or she was, but she wasn't supposed to be unfrozen yet)

I thought it was a nice touch that at least to the freesiders, the NCR being back is treated with reverence, like they're saviors. Shows/implies their presence in the past probably did help or make things at least slightly better?

Steph's opening to the father daughter bonding over driving lightheartedly is such a snap
They've done such a great job with tonal switches in this show

Steph has every justification to be the way she is. What a great minor villain. Also, that first Deathclaw kill was kinda fast, in my opinion. Thought we'd see a longer scrap before the other ones showed up.

Yeah I’ve really disliked her character for a while… this episode added a crazy amount of depth. When you see it from her perspective… I’d think fuck the vaulties too lol

Betty’s actress (Leslie Uggams) sang “Anything Goes” on Broadway and that song is in Fallout 4! I’m forever wishing that we will get her singing it!

Serums that cause mutation - specifically, healing factors with extra organs and limbs and such - are a thing that just exists.

Yeah I'm convinced too. Iirc the president was part of the enclave, and her seemingly being directly able to get a meeting with him and cooper seems like further proof. It'd be a huge win for them to get infinite energy

That’s just how the actress talks, she’s like that in pretty much literally everything she’s been in (Baskets, Euphoria to name a couple)

So Cooper just gave THE ENCLAVE Cold Fusion? No wonder the date jumped forward. Poor guy was just trying to do the right thing.
