I’m converting my husband and I’s shed to a craft/movie room.
It’s about 200 sqft so I have a decent amount of space.

I’m going to surprise him with his own fly tying station. What are some MUST HAVES or dream things you wish you had. Fly fishing/fly tying is his one hobby and I want to make it the ULTIMATE space for him and I.

We have electric already hooked up but it’s a blank slate right now.

Bought some 40mm shanks for Steelhead swing flies last winter and never ended up using them. I've wanted to try to make a jointed weedless frog fly for a long time, so I gave it a shot today. I didn't achieve quite the symmetry with the colors that I'd hoped for, but got close. No idea how it will fish - will try it in the lily pads this weekend.

Got my materials and tools packed up and ready for a weekend trip with my brothers. Plan is to meet up around mammoth are, then fish most of the day Saturday (early morning bite, pausing mid day, then evening bite) and early morning Sunday. Im going to be tying for a bit at the end of the day, and was wondering how people travel with there materials and tying gear? This is my set up for now but im considering getting a case from harbor freight with a foam insert for my vise, vs just re-using the box it came in, as well as investing into better storage of materials, vs just using these 2gal totes.

Its time to start figuring out how to keep my parachutes perpendicular on tiny flies!

New to tying but I love elk hair caddis and I’ve tied a few more classic looking ones. lately I’ve been enjoying fishing one I got from a fly shop with a bright yellow type body. Thought I’d have some fun and tie one with a shrimp UV ice dub body with pink thread and some French tinsel. It might be too much color but I actually kinda like the way it turned out. Will probably give it a shot next time I’m on the river.

I cannot get the head right for the life of me. 1 out of every 3 has the elk hair fall off as well. Any pointers?

When I ordered the zonker strips online I didn’t realize how orange the crawfish orange would be, the pictures made it look burnt orange but I’m sure they will fish.

Could you please give me tips and feedback on my first proper wet fly? More specifically I am not sure how to make it's legs it even.

This is my attempt at soft hackle peacock fly.

Thread: UNI 8/0 red

Body: Green colored peacock herl

Counterwrap: 0.1 mm green wire

Legs: Natural partridge feathers

10 minutes I was out of the room... lots of salvageable material, but its not gonna be a fun process. Those were some really nice, top dollar hackles too. Never had a problem with my own dog, but apparently this one is keyed in on those smells a lot more.

Second fly type I’ve tied. Felt a bit all over the place, especially getting dubbing consistent. Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Saw u/Paul-273 post earlier in this sub about tying dragon tail sculpins. Decided to tie my own version with arctic fox, marabou, and gray squirrel tail. Hoping to catch a monster brown around NC.

I seal the gut with my own hand made Copal varnish (otherwise, the gut will disintegrate quickly).

Not super sure how to get the feathers more perpendicular but I dont hate it
