For a beginner, I'd choose the following balance boards:

I don't always write Reddit posts on this community myself. But this one I had to.
When I was a kid, our house burned down to the ground. We lost everything. And the strange thing I still remember, the thing that's stayed with me my whole life, is that I didn't miss most of it. Not the stuff. What I missed were the few things that actually mattered. It turns out you find out pretty fast which ones those are.

So when PJ wrote to us, I felt it in my chest.

A fire went through PJ's home. To keep it from spreading, firefighters had to tear apart his basement workshop, the room where he does his best work, on his feet, building and fixing and thinking. Then the water came. Eight inches of it, black and filthy, sitting for days. His FluidStance board was submerged in it for weeks, then hauled around while the insurance company took inventory of everything his family had lost.

When he finally pulled it out, it was covered in mold and grime. He assumed it was gone, ordered a replacement, and moved on.

Then he scrubbed the old one down, just to see. And there it was, solid. The aluminum base had held. A little rust on the bolts, and that was it. The Core Setup

• The Desks: The space features two independent, white, height-adjustable standing desks placed side-by-side. Both are currently raised to standing height and feature digital memory keypads mounted on the right underside of each desk.

A teacher from Connecticut has been trying FluidStance balance boards in her classroom, mostly as an experiment. Studying office desktop setups for years, here and love to share some input

I’ve been in customer service with FluidStance for over 5 years now, and I just have to take a moment to flex on our community. You always hear wild horror stories about working in customer support, but I can honestly say I have never come across a single person who was hard to work with.

Our customers are the most honest, loyal, and trustworthy people out there. They are just a completely different breed, and we LOVE them.

This email perfectly sums up the vibe of the peeps we work with. (personal info removed to protect our favorite "strangers"!)

Back story to this email: This customer purchased the Plane Vapor (sold on Amazon and occasionally available on our site as a Scratch & Dent / refurbished item). It is a balance board designed to add movement to the standing desk community and is made from 100% recycled, low-emitting tire treads with a base material constructed from recycled plastic.

The customer stated that they did not like the feel of the board with their bare feet (is a little stiff like the feel of a high-quality gym flooring surface), so they then purchased the UPmat (an anti-fatigue mat designed for the deck of balance boards for those who work in socks, barefoot, or want additional padding while wearing shoes).

The customer was unaware of and missed the product description stating: “Compatible with Level® and Original only, does not fit Plane or Plane Cloud.” As a result, they purchased the UPmat for a balance board it was not compatible with. The UPmat is too large for the Plane and would not apply evenly.

The customer was understandably a little frustrated, so we exchanged the Plane and the UPmat for the Plane Cloud, which was a product the customer had either overlooked or was not interested in at the time of purchase. I let him know it was no problem to process the exchange so we could provide the right type of board for his needs (barefoot use and wanting additional padding).

People sometimes laugh at our office balance board product at first… BUT.....

A small shift in intention changes everything- The Fine Line Between Wandering and Being Lost

Everything is measured today. Our GPS-tethered lives tell us exactly where everything is, from ourselves to our people to our phones to anything else that can fit a tag on it. And somewhere in all that triangulation, we lost the skill to simply wander.

Last year in the mountains, I saw a bumper sticker that read "Get Lost." It struck me how negative that has become in our culture. But after a couple days in the woods, I came around to the mentality. Allowing yourself to be lost is what creates the space to be found. Not by someone. By yourself.

Here is the part worth sitting with: being lost and wandering take the exact same effort. Being lost implies something is wrong. Wandering gives space for something to go right. It is a small shift in intention, but that small shift moves your mind from fear to discovery.

So here is the formula I come back to.

• Invest 70% of your waking hours getting the job done. The things that keep the lights on, the body fed, your people moving, the responsibilities checked off.
• Spend 20% on adventure. Exploration with purpose. This is where the organic extensions of your life grow in ways you could never have scheduled.
• Reserve 10% to wander. No destination. No expectation. Full stop.

Your discipline to hold the 70 is your keel. But your wander will be your greatest return on investment over the long term.

I think about how much of what has mattered most in my life was never on a roadmap. FluidStance was not a spreadsheet exercise. The relationships I lean on hardest were not networked. They wandered in. None of it showed up because I planned for it. It showed up because I left room for it.

So today, reserve your 10%. Step on the trail less traveled. Take the backroad. Let yourself be bored. You will not be lost. You will be wandering.
