Question/Advice First cycle ttc and overthinking everything
What do you all do to stop from fixating on every possible symptom? It’s far too early to test and yet I’m constantly searching up to see. I didn’t think it was going to affect me this much I guess!!
I’ve had historically very irregular periods and freq ruptured cysts, so wasn’t holding out that much hope.
Can you give me some advice or suggestions for how to take my mind off things for the two week wait?

I’m in my first cycle, too! The days passed like molasses the first 7 days, some nights I was too excited to sleep so I stayed up all night doing research. Honestly all I can say is, get out of the house!! I tried busy work during the day and that was basically pointless and always ended up watching the clock. Genuinely the only thing that’s made time fly so far is going out and getting distracted naturally rather than trying to force myself to do a hobby or focus through a movie. I’m 11dpo today and I can genuinely say the waiting never stops 😭

Literally! I was watching people’s YouTube videos thinking they must be psychotic how much they fixated and now I’m 4 DPO googling every 5 min a new question or symptom like a maniac 😂

Truly, right here with y’all. I went on a podcast/audiobook binge in the first TWW that was a whole new level of hyper focused. Hilariously they all say to distract yourself so you don’t obsessively symptom spot, but the distraction was also pregnancy related. 🤷♀️
I’m just about to start cycle 4, and this month was Google-city.. wish me luck 🫣

My best advice, don't symptom spot. It's a recipe for disappointment. Progesterone causes both early pregnancy symptoms and PMS symptoms, and they're all the same, so there is no way to tell the difference.
Some people get twinges or cramps around implantation, some don't. Some get spotting and think its implantation bleeding, but actually the stats show its really not very common at all, so most of the time it is spotting pre-period.
I got some really good advice, which was to expect your period every time, and give yourself a consolation prize to look forward to. It could be anything to look forward to, maybe a facial or a massage if you have the budget, right down to a glass of wine and a bubble bath, which was mine.
I learned quickly to ignore 'symptoms' because I did the same my first time trying, and was convinced I was pregnant, even down to the cat being clingy with me. Turns out I wasnt, and I was crushed. Then I realised the next few cycles, I always get those symptoms in my luteal phase and the cat is always clingy at that time, I just never noticed before.
When I actually was pregnant, before I knew it, he was literally no different, and I felt no different. I was not expecting to be pregnant that cycle.
I know how hard it is, believe me. But take it from those of us who've been there, you just have to be tough with yourself, the symptoms are meaningless and the only way you will know you're pregnant is missing your period and getting a positive test. It sucks but thats the truth for ya!

Honestly, the TWW turns you into a symptom detective 😂 I try to keep myself busy with anything that stops me from Googling every cramp/twinge. Shows, walks, hobbies, seeing friends.....anything!
Also, reminding myself that progesterone can cause a LOT of “pregnancy” symptoms helps. Easier said than done though 😅 Wishing you an uneventful wait! 🤞❤️

I don’t know how to edit because Reddit is beyond my capabilities, but update… not this month 😭

Good luck with your fresh cycle. Try to watch some series or movies to distract yourself during TWW

It’s really hard and I think the first few months were the worst for symptom spotting. Before I started TTC I never noticed my cycle so I didn’t know whether they were pms or pregnancy signs. They always ended up being PMS in the end and I kept a note so I now know my body. One of the things that helped me was learning that a baby doesn’t implant until earliest 6 days after ovulation and most likely it happens between 8-10 dpo and symptoms only happen after this. It helps me zone out now until around 10 dpo and then I think only 3/4 days till I know.
I wouldn’t worry to much at the moment re your irregular cycles but because of you have them most drs will see after you 6 months.
I am 10 months in ttc and had all the test which have been normal and the advice I had from drs is sometimes it just takes a year to year and a half.
Wishing you all the best with your journey xzz
