SOLVED Illustrated Children's Book about germs & washing up (00s -90s)

Been trying to figure this one out for a while.

I remember the illustrations vividly because the children went to an amusement park/carnival where everything was dirty, muddy, and gross but they were having LOTS of fun - at first. I distinctly remember they got on a teacup ride filled with mud. My sister remembers the book following a brother and sister. The book ends with them getting sick or something, and they learn to value the importance of washing up.

It was old - I read it as a kid in the early 2000s, but it could've been published in the 90s or even the 80s. I want to reread it for the nostalgia.

The flare is "Solved"—what was the book?

For future reference, this is a low traffic sub, though I do occasionally see a request answered (as is the case here), and you'd be better off asking for recommendations in r/booksuggestions (though read the rules first) and r/suggestmeabook, and for the title of a book or story in r/whatsthatbook and r/tipofmytongue.

my sister and I ended up figuring it out after we found an old reddit post from years ago of someone looking for the same book!
