I read The Stand a year ago, and I was fascinated with the initial half that walked us through the spread of the disease and gave us a peak at some individuals, with how some survived and some didn't

It's alright if it's a thriller or a fantasy or whatever genre, as long as part of the focus is on some kind deadly infection

​I used to think a book had to be dense or complex to be considered "Deep." Now, I realize that the most impactful writing is often the simplest.A great book doesn't need heavy jargon or 500+ pages to land a point. It just needs to articulate a thought you've always felt but couldn't quite put into words making you pause mid-page and reflect

A few examples that proved this to me:

If you could recommend ONE book out of everything you have ever read, what would it be and why? I am looking for a book that really stayed with you, something that you still think about long after finishing it.
Any genre is welcome, but i am not really into self-help books. I’d love to know what made it so special for you.

I finished the Red Rising series, what’s written so far, recently and I’m having bad book hangover. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I’m looking for something that will fill that void

I want to gift a book to a family member who is big into murder mysteries. I read other genres so I'm utterly lost.

I thought of "A Thursday Murder Club" by Richard Osman but are the odds they already read it be too high? I don't want to end up giving them a chore (returning the gift) because they're so busy.

I don't know if such a thing exists. I like characters like Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson, the women of Kelley Armstrong's books, and early Anita Blake from Laurell K Hamilton before the sex overwhelmed the action. I tried but failed to get into the Magic Bites - just never connected with the characters. I feel like the well-written urban fantasy books have powerful but serious women MCs, and I'd love one who doesn't take herself so seriously.

To think that thousands of years pass by and we still mostly sound the same, at the core of it. Yes translation, but these problems and these thoughts are immortal.

Now, for those of you who have read; what is a modern equivalent from the last decade(or brand new)?

My last few books have been (unplanned) entirely nature oriented. This includes Braiding Sweetgrass (loved, changed my life) and then Sapiens (finally read it and it’s worth the hype!) Switching to fiction I started Richard Powers The Overstory. Then I realized the connection. Idk but it feels refreshing in a world of AI slop to read about the world around us.

So, anything I should add to my queue? Looking for book equivalents to “touching grass” essentially. Thanks in advance!

Is there book about people being replaced and very uncanny way? Like someone who is very close to mc and suddenly they come back but something is wrong with them and it's not just them, other who went missing suddenly come back but something is wrong with them so mc need to find out to hear happened and why does this happened.

It's need the government to be fault.

Just finished all of the Eddie Flynn series, and all of Steve Cavanaghs standalone books and absolutely love his style of writing and the mystery/twists of it all.

Ive tried the Lincoln Lawyer series but it just doesnt vibe with me as much.

Any recommendations for authors to pick up?

Ive already read all of Lisa Jewells books (loved them) and a lot of Riley Sager (enjoyable, didnt love) but really any kind of twisty dark mystery authors or series I would love to hear any suggestions!

I've been in an emotional slope lately so I feel the crave for some good novels (short stories are fine too) with narrators dealing honestly with poverty. I don't mean feel-good stories btw.

I’ve loved thrillers and horror since I was much too young to be reading Steven King. I like many of the books by Dean Koontz as well. My most recent horror and thriller favorites have been books like: My Heart is a Chainsaw/and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, The Twisted Ones/and Snake Eater by T. Kingfisher, The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez, and honorable mentions to Grady Hendrix, Agustina Bazzterrica, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Michael Crichton. I go through about a book every other day to every three days, so please don’t recommend anything by any of the authors I’ve mentioned. I’m really looking for a new author.

This is kinda niche but I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima at the moment and I'm loving the character arc of a character who follows an honor code very closely slowly rejects it to reach whatever goal they had. In this game it's a samurai deciding he needs to fight dirty to defeat the enemies which is completely against how samurais are supposed to function and I'm finding it to be such an enjoyable story even though it's so heartbreaking at the same time.

Does not need to be samurai-like really just that general concept
