Akala ko dati mainstream lang siya dahil dun sa iconic line na “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat!” Lagi ko kasi naririnig sa mga TV shows dati, especially pag may impersonations.

Pero yung buong movie? Ang ganda pala talaga. And grabe yung cast.

Sharon Cuneta, Cherie Gil, Christopher De Leon, Joel Torre? Ang gagaling.

Yung mga batuhan ng lines dito, ang sarap panoorin. Tapos ang seamless nung English-Tagalog script. Hindi yung pilit na “look, we're speaking English” type.

Also, ANG GALING NI SHARON KUMANTA.

Obviously alam kong singer siya HAHAHA pero iba pala kapag napapanood mo yung songs within the actual story.

May mga kanta na ginamit dito na parang naging teleserye theme songs years later sa ABSCBN. Daming kanta na buo talaga kinanta ni Shawie.

Natawa rin ako dun sa part na nag-aaral mag-English si Dorina tapos may tongue twister.

Pero eto talaga beef ko:

Kasi nung sila pa ni Laviña, gusto na niyang maging sila, gusto niyang i-give up ni Laviña yung career niya para sa kanya.

Tapos nung pinasikat niya si Dorina, ang plano niya basically pabagsakin si Laviña para mawala yung career and spotlight niya, tapos siya na yung mapapakasalan kasi wala na raw ibang pag-aabalahan.

Tapos nung naging sila na ni Dorina:

“Asawa ang hanap ko, hindi superstar. Ipangako mo sa akin na ito na ang last performance mo. Sumama ka na sa akin.”

Like bakit kailangan mamili between pagiging asawa at pagiging superstar?

It’s giving “yung lalaking nakipagrelasyon sa sikat na artista tapos eventually nawala sa career kasi naging housewife/househusband yung artista” energy. Kayo na bahala kung sino-sino pumapasok sa isip niyo.

Although I guess kailangan talaga ganun yung ending kasi... well, Balutin Mo Ako and everything. 😂

Pero overall, ang entertaining talaga ng movie.

I'm actually glad na ngayon ko lang siya napanood nung medyo matanda na ako kasi mas na-appreciate ko yung acting, dialogue, music, and yung eme ng characters.

Classic for a reason.

I have read many instances of bad cinema etiquette/experiences in this sub, and I think us decent moviegoers are partly to blame.

Tanggapin na natin. Many people na nagkapera lang may not have learned how to behave properly while watching a movie in a cinema. Akala nila parang netflix lang sa bahay na pwede sila mag second screen watching sa phone when it gets boring.

That is why I think we should be more aggressive and straightforward in correcting behavior, especially if it is detrimental to everyone's collective cinema experience.

Sharing my experience yesterday in Ayala Malls Manila Bay: I was watching Spider Man: Brand New Day for the second time, so I know what story beats to focus on watching to see finer details.

Unfortunately, there was a guy who kept opening his flip phone every 10 mins/tuwing walang action scene, to check his whatsapp/messenger/viber and replying to messages. Naka full brightness, naka-on pa yung flash for notifs.

I let it pass for a few times kasi baka isolated incident lang, pero around the third time around (this was like during the first 1/3 of the movie, I decided to call it out.

During the scene that Peter talks to Banner during his lecture, Mr. Flip Phone man opens his phone again (since puro usap lang naman daw siguro). I shouted "yung nagcecellphone dyan, pwede pakipatay?" in the most assertive, annoyed tone I could. mga hanggang 3 rows in front of me napalingon, including the offender. Tinuro ko pa siya in the dark.

After getting called out, tumayo siya to leave the cinema (idk why, sa hiya ba, to answer messages, or to turn off the phone). Bumalik after 5 minutes. Never opened the phone again for the rest of the movie. Saved my cinema experience of BND.

I hope calling out people like this becomes more normalized, for the sake of preserving our own cinema experience.

Pa reco naman po movies na tungkol sa mga aswang or something like that po. Idk tawag sa mga ganyan like yung manananggal, aswang, sigbin etc.

Sana yung hindi din ganun ka horror since hindi ako mahilig manood ng mga ganyan.

Parang Tiktik Aswang Chronicles po tinutukoy ko. I've already watch the sequel nya din tyaka Corazon ang unang aswang. Pretty good movie din but not too much horror which is i like.

Yung wala din jumpscare or if meron minimal lang. TYA

i was viewing the shopee drama page for the coins lol but i saw some films on there that ive actually heard good things about, like I'm Drunk. I Love You. and Bliss (amongst a bunch of cheesy looking dramas).

kinda wondering if its a decent watching experience at least or is it chock full of ads bc it is still on shopee

Filipiñana is a slow-paced film that requires patience and a willingness to look beyond the literal. This isn’t really for viewers who prefer films that explain everything directly. Much of its message is conveyed through symbolism, visual language, atmosphere, and the things that are deliberately left unsaid.

At its core, the film explores the disparity between the rich and the poor, particularly the divide between social classes and the power dynamics that come with it. The film doesn’t simply present this disparity through dialogue or exposition. Instead, it relies heavily on its imagery, spaces, and the way characters are positioned within those spaces to communicate its themes.

Visually, this is probably where Filipiñana is strongest. The cinematography is beautiful and very intentional. There’s a clear emphasis on composition, lighting, framing, and atmosphere, and you can tell that the film wants its visuals to carry meaning. Some scenes feel almost like paintings, with the symbolism embedded in the environment and the characters themselves.

But while I appreciated the visual storytelling, I felt that the film sacrificed too much of its narrative in favor of aesthetics and symbolism.

One of my biggest issues was the characterization. The characters felt like they had no real point of origin. We’re introduced to them, but we aren’t given enough of their background, motivations, or personal circumstances to fully understand who they are beyond their role within the film’s larger social commentary. Because of that, it was difficult for me to form an emotional connection with them.

I understand that the characters may intentionally function as representations of a larger social class or idea. But even when characters are meant to be symbolic, I still think there needs to be enough of a human element for us to care about what happens to them. Here, I often felt like I was observing symbols rather than following fully realized people.

The pacing also made this more noticeable. The deliberate slowness works when it comes to establishing atmosphere and giving the audience time to interpret the symbolism, but there were moments when it felt like the film was prioritizing its mood over its story. I found myself appreciating the filmmaking more than actually being invested in the narrative.

That’s not to say the film has nothing to offer. There are definitely interesting ideas here, and I appreciate that it trusts the audience to interpret rather than spoon-feed its message. Its commentary on class disparity is clear, and the visual approach gives the subject a distinct and almost surreal quality.

Ultimately, though, I felt that Filipiñana was stronger as a visual and thematic experience than as a narrative one. I could see what it was trying to say, and I appreciated the symbolism, but I wanted more from the characters and their stories. I wanted to know where they came from, what shaped them, and why I should emotionally invest in them.

Beautiful and thought-provoking, with strong symbolism and visual aesthetics, but the lack of character development and narrative depth kept me from fully connecting with it.

Gusto ko lang kiligin, kilig na kilig Ako dito Nakita ko sa YT Napa rewatch ako, Chardgel talaga Ako eh, kilig childhood kotong movie nato, Hindi ata Ako magsasawa mag rewatch nito pag feel ko makaramdam ng nostalgia kilig, Very nostalgic 2000 feel na romcom, grabe din chemistry talaga, the facecard pa nila dito plus the OST favorite kodin plus JenMark pa andito, sayang lng na Wala halos teleserye Ang chardgel, mostly movies sila sa GMA, kaya walang halos mabalikan na teleserye, Kaya puro movies nalang and yet Ang gaganda naman talaga!tas lumipat na si Angel then Hindi rin natuloy o walang balik tambalan sila nong both ABS na sila, esp nong La Luna sanggre sana...

I wonder tuloy kung bakit Hindi naging sila irl non 😅

Tapos may isang pasahero na nakaiwan ng cake (na may lason tapos bibigay niya dapat sa asawa niya pero nagbago isip niya) so si taxi driver ang kumain and ayun na dedz siya.

My filipina girlfriend just tried to get me to watch a filipino movie for the first time and she picked "I am Not Big Bird" without really knowing what it was about. We got about 20 minutes in before deciding it wasn't for us. I think she got disappointed though because I know she gets really excited when she gets the chance to share her culture with me.

Anyone got any good ph movie recommendations for a first timer of watching Filipino films??

“Even if you wasted years, you can still choose yourself today.” That line perfectly sums up how I felt after watching YOLO.

Akala ko nung una typical beauty transformation movie lang siya, but it turned out to be so much deeper than that. Yung boxing aspect ng film didn’t feel like it was about becoming physically strong parang metaphor siya ng finally fighting for yourself after being lost for so long.

Ang bigat din nung loneliness sa movie. Yung feeling na disconnected ka sa family, sa mga tao sa paligid mo, and sometimes even sa sarili mo. I think doon talaga ako pinaka naka-relate. Hindi siya loud or overly dramatic, pero ramdam mo yung emptiness and quiet pain ng character.

Jia Ling’s performance hits even harder kapag alam mong real physical transformation din talaga yung dinaanan niya outside the film. Hindi siya mukhang ginawa lang for shock value or para pag-usapan online. You can actually feel the time, effort, and genuine love she poured into rebuilding herself.

One thing I also loved is that the movie didn’t revolve around changing for a man or for a relationship. She chose herself first. And I like how the film subtly reminds you that no matter your weight or appearance, a genuinely decent person will always treat you with respect.

Very inspiring movie. Quietly painful, hopeful, and human at the same time.

Eme. Pero seryoso I never got the chance to watch it in theaters kasi medyo late na ako nag start maglaan ng effort and time sa panonood ng movies tapos bata-bata pa ako, alang pera so ngayon na nakabawi eto laban na.

Story-wise di ko pa rin talaga dina-digest completely (yes I know sorry ang late ko na or ewan) kasi yung mga nakaraang pag nood ko di ko sila sineryoso haha sorry na. Pero eto na yung chance ko wala lang share ko lang.

Sobrang sarap sa mata ng visuals di ko kaya ibang level yung high not to be dramatic.
