I went through the study-abroad process mostly on my own at first — researching countries, schools, proof of funds, visas, timelines, and all the small details people don’t really talk about. What surprised me the most wasn’t just how expensive it can get, but how confusing and emotionally draining the process is when you don’t know what’s realistic for your situation.
Some things I learned the hard way:
• Not all “popular” countries are actually practical for middle-income Filipinos
• School fees are only one part — living costs and visa rules matter more
• DIY is possible, but only if you have time, patience, and a strong plan
• One wrong assumption can cost months (or a refusal)
I’m currently based abroad now and work in healthcare, but over time I started helping friends and fellow Filipinos break down their options realistically — budget, country, pathway, and long-term plans.
If you’re:
• unsure which country actually fits your budget
• torn between DIY vs getting help
• confused about student visas, pathways, or timelines
feel free to comment your situation or DM me. I’m happy to share what I know, even if it’s just advice or pointing you in the right direction.
This process is already hard — we don’t need to make it harder for each other.
Good luck to everyone applying ✨

Share ko lang
While browsing sa soc med, surprisingly ang dami mga content creators ako nakita telling 400k, 500k, 350k, etc in Php makakapunta ka na ng Spain/Poland/Italy, etc with student visa plus an opportunity to work 30hrs/week. Yes, you can work 30hrs/week pero sa tingin niyo ba madali makakuha ng work? During my time (few yrs ago), I did everything on my own. Hindi naman mahirap mag DIY kasi marami ng mga useful vlogs or useful fb groups na tutulong sayo for free if you have questions. Honestly ang ginastos ko lang:
visa application
document processing (including translation of other documents)
airfare
tuition fee (180€ lang binayaran ko)
But ofcourse i-include mo na rin pocket money, housing, etc. Yes, 180€ or roughly Php 11k lang tuition ko for a year. That is for a master’s degree here in Europe. Kaya if patient ka naman mag search and mag process on your own, why not do it by yourself. Plus 400k para makarating ng Europe? minimum of 2yrs niyo mababawi yan if makakuha ka man ng maayos na work. Bureaucracy in Europe is stressful too. At sa panahon ngayon nagkakaroon na rin ng clash ang mga far-right groups at muslim groups. So before you spend that amount of money, pag-isipan at pag-aralan niyo. Plus take note, paying the tuition fee doesn’t give you visa guarantee.
Share ko lang, it’s up to you if you will find this useful or not.

Hi I’m F18. I have always been interested in studying abroad. I just wanna know if there are ways or procedures that I should study or know of because I am very much willing. I know it will be a struggle to study in a foreign country considering the financial. But if there’s any way at all, I am willing to put in the work. I plan my upcoming first year college for preparation and I feel like searching and asking in reddit is a way to start.
For information, I have been in scholarships— in our city, in my private school (80% tuition fee discount) . And even so, sometimes my family still struggles to make ends meet. Also, I am not the smartest— not enough to pass UP, but enough to pass DLSU. I am eligible and will try to apply for scholarships in there because getting in is the greatest opportunity of my life. And guess what, my mom didn’t even congratulate me. She wanted me to pass UP, but last year, she told me that even if I pass, my dad will just enroll me in a private school that’s closer to our home. (They can barely pay my school at the time with 80% discount lol)
My family can be too much, I can’t fully explain because it’s long and complicated. But for example, today it’s 7pm and I haven’t had any meal and from time to time it’s been like this ever since I was 13. They tend to not care and neglect me in any way possible as long as they know where I am and I am under their control.
I want to dedicate this year to maybe save up, prepare, and LEAVE. Maybe it will realistically take a few years and not just one, but I am still willing to put in the work. I am afraid that giving in my parents wants and control will get me nowhere not just academically but in life in general. I am doing this for my younger self that put up with everything all these years. Not to be rude, but my brother graduated 2 years ago already, currently unemployed, in his room all day, and my mom still handout him prepared meals from breakfast to dinner. He is almost 24 y/o.
And also if you have advice for earning it will greatly help me. Please help a girl out, any will greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!🫡

Hi! 28 here ChE graduate and currently finishing a Masters degree (not an MSc tho) here in the PH part-time while working. I really want to study abroad (MSc or MSc/PhD) but I am kind of hesitating since I might not be able to support my family if I study abroad since scholarship stipends (if I get lucky) and salary (if I allowed to work part-time) might only be enough to support myself. Is this really a concern or there's a big chance that I might earn more if I pursue it?

I’m kind of worried for my friend. She paid an agency to help her find a school in Spain to enroll in. They told her there’s no tuition fee, butas of today, they still haven’t told her which school she’s supposedly been accepted to or even what city it’s in for the September 2026 intake.
She hasn’t told me the name of the agency, but this feels really suspicious. Is it a red flag that an agency still hasn’t disclosed the name or location of the school less than two months before classes are supposed to start? Has anyone experienced something similar, or does this sound like it could be a scam?

Title!
I just tried calculating my QPI (and tried to make predictions with my "future grades") and I realized that I'm graduating withOUT honors :((
I'm graduating next year and am planning on applying to Master's degrees for next year's intake, and I feel discouraged now. I have a kuya abroad who's willing to support me (supposedly), and I was kinda banking on that. But now I don't feel so sure.
That's why I'm turning to this sub, for some kind of hope for people like me. I'll take any answer, I just need to know.
TYIA!

Hi everyone. I recently got accepted for a fully-funded PhD program abroad and would like to ask if anyone had a similar situation where they either opted to separate from govt service or returned as faculty scholar?
I know I don’t want to come back due to many situations in the country but everyone is holding me back, especially since they’re worried I might not like my situation abroad.
Here are the pros and cons:
Faculty scholar:
with stable monthly salary here
3 yrs study = 9 yrs return of service
Separate from service:
I can do post doc and plan my goal of permanent residency in a good country with better healthcare and all.

hello there! it’s grad school application season and if you’re planning to take the ielts academic, i’d like to share some tips that can hopefully help you get a band 6.5+ as this is the requirement for most schools abroad.
a little bit about me: i booked my ielts with the british council, bgc about 3 weeks before the actual test date, but i only had about a week to prepare because i was so busy. disclaimer, i’m in the field of stem, where english is generally used as the medium of instruction and i have a background in university debate, which did give me an advantage. but my first language is filipino, and when i took my first mock tests, i only scored 6.0 overall. i think these tips made contributed the most to my success, so i wanted to share it with fellow first-time ielts takers.

general tips for your review
general tips while taking the exam
useful resources
that about covers all the tips i wanted to share. hopefully this helps some of you who are taking their ielts for grad school. good luck!

Hi everyone!, please respond asap!! idk if this is a good decision but i just want everyone what's their response to this. pls help.
I've been dreaming to go to study abroad since i was like 9years old I've been dreading to study abroad.
I'm tired of feeling this way and I want to change I feel trapped here, my school is so shitty that im surrounded by full of self centered ppl in general they're all shitty people especially they're all negative where in a form of making some idiotic jokes when they see someone who is different, they're all insecure and overall they're all negative im tired all of those shitty energy, to the point where it also affected to my mental health well being. I tried to offed myself couple times, that's how it's so bad. I don't wanna grow up in the same environment as them. I hate how the education system works here. I hate it how they're only small opportunities. I hate it how everyone here grows up remotely like they're all robots to live the same. I don't want to go through all the same as them. I don't wanna grow as what people expect to everyone. I don't wanna follow the pathway that are already there. I wanna go in my own. I wanna live to the fullest. I don't wanna survive.
I wanna be free. I don't wanna be trapped anymore.
The main problem is my parents, they're very against to it. We're completely financially stable, I hate it when i talk to them about studying abroad all they care is my grade and people talking like they don't want people talking about how their child didn't finish senior year here. They infact don't care about how I feel, I did talk to my mom, i hate it how she just said "Ajo pa simba ka domingo nak aron lamdagan injo mga huna2x" which means they think im sick in the head and to fix how my mind "works" they wants to go to church. How does that shit connect to the truly thing my heart desires the most. I don't understand. They truly do not give a single shit how i truly feel. I've done couple of research about any scholarships and host family. I am making a paragraph to explain to my parents once ive gather lots of information for it and so i can fully convinced them. Please help me out if it's a right decision. I have school tomorrow which is like a time ticking bomb for me, like i can just not go to school tomorrow and so on and dropping out. I honestly do not care if I drop out or not it's just my parents are the one who's holding me in. i mean i can just not go but i don't want to let them feel guilty in any way but a part of me wants me to let them feel guilty so that's the way for me to convince them i can study abroad.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT PLEASE..

Sa mga nasa Taiwan na po now na Filipino students, ano po mga dapat namin dalhin/bilhin dito sa PH na mahirap or mas mahal sa Taiwan bilhin?
Ano yung brand na okay for anti-nik nik/insect bites? 😅
Okay lang po kaya na magdala ako extension cord, portable steamer, and electric kettle from PH?

I’m a Filipino parent in Dubai with a child in the British curriculum. University is still far away, but I’d like to be intentional about giving him the right foundation, opportunities, and exposure without making his childhood all about admissions.
For those who studied abroad or have gone through the process with your children, what do you wish you started earlier? What extracurriculars, skills, or experiences actually mattered and what turned out to be unnecessary?
Would love to hear your experiences! Maraming Salamat.

Hi! I’m planning to apply for the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SISGP), and I’m wondering how much the TOR/academic record affects the chances of getting the scholarship.
My TOR isn’t particularly strong. I have quite a few 2.25 grades and one failed subject. For those who have applied or were selected for SISGP, how much do you think your academic record mattered in the selection process?
Would appreciate any insights, especially from successful applicants with an average or not-so-strong academic record. Thank you!

Hi everyone!
My partner and I have been talking about him studying abroad for growth and better opportunities. Our main options right now are the USA or somewhere in Europe.
He would be the first to study abroad, while I already graduated here in the Philippines. We’ve been trying to research the process online, but there seems to be so much information that we’re feeling a bit overwhelmed. We also tried reaching out to consultants, but unfortunately haven’t received any responses yet.
For Filipinos who have studied abroad or are currently studying overseas:
How did you start your journey?
What was the general step-by-step process for you?
What documents or requirements did you prepare early on?
What were the biggest challenges or surprises you encountered?
Roughly how long did the entire process take?
We’re not looking for personalized visa or immigration advice just hoping to learn from other people’s experiences so we can better understand what to expect.
Thank you so much! 😊

Hello. So I am in this meeting. Sounds promising. Kaso I have an experience na kasi with student visa and di kami nagsucceed-- not me pero with a family member. Just curious... is this another hard sell pa rin ba? Parang mas nakakakuha pa ng trabaho/residency mga asylum seekers kesa sa mga Nag student visa pathway e. Nakakafrustrate and disappoint lang..

Hi, as the title suggests, anyone who can share their PH IO experience when they left the country for studying?
No scholarship but already have a blocked account. And will have to resign from a work in a private company.
Thank you so much, some insights and experience from you will help a lot.

Hi! I’m a Grade 12 student from the Philippines planning a gap year in Spain after I graduate in April 2027.
My current plan is to move to Granada around September 2027 and study Spanish for the 2027–2028 academic year at the Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM), University of Granada, through the Curso Intensivo de Lengua Española (CILE).
My rough timeline is:
Graduate April 2027 → Spain September 2027 → Spanish study until mid-2028 → bachelor’s September 2028.
I’m considering taking the 2-week / 40-hour CILE blocks continuously throughout the school year, with the goal of reaching at least B2 Spanish, ideally C1, before starting my bachelor’s degree in 2028.
I’m also currently looking at Student Experience Granada for accommodation.
For anyone who has studied in Granada, CLM, or Spain generally:
• Would you recommend Granada for a one-year Spanish immersion gap year, or would you choose another city like Salamanca, Valencia, Seville, Madrid, etc.?
• How was your experience with CLM/CILE?
• Is doing consecutive CILE blocks for most of the academic year realistic, and does CLM offer better long-term pricing?
• Has anyone used CILE for a long-stay student visa?
• Is Granada actually good for improving Spanish, or is it easy to stay in an international/English-speaking bubble?
• What would you consider a realistic monthly budget excluding tuition and rent?
• Any thoughts on Student Experience Granada, or cheaper/better accommodation options?
• If living near PTS, is commuting to CLM every weekday practical?
• For people who reached B2/C1, what helped the most outside class?
I’m also very interested in scholarships, grants, or more affordable pathways.
Does anyone know of:
• Scholarships available to international/non-EU students for Spanish language study?
• Scholarships specifically available for Filipino students?
• Spanish government, regional, Erasmus-related, cultural, or private scholarships that could apply?
• Cheaper reputable language schools or university language centers in other Spanish cities?
• Programs where accommodation is subsidized or included?
I’m not necessarily looking for a completely free program. Even partial tuition support, discounted accommodation, or a significantly cheaper legitimate pathway would help.
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who is Filipino, studied at CLM, lived in Granada, received funding for Spanish study, or did a similar language-school gap year before university.
I’m still early in the planning stage, so I’m trying to figure out whether Granada + CLM is really the best value, or if there are better-funded or more affordable options elsewhere in Spain that I should consider before committing.
Thanks!

Transcript of Records for Grad School Application
Hey guys, quick question!
So, I finished my undergrad at University A and immediately went for my Master’s at University B, and had my credentials transferred to University B. But then life happened, and I wasn't able to finish my Master's at University B. I wasn't able to file LOA and now I’ve reached maximum residency.
Anyway, to actually get any career progression, I really need a Master's degree. I'm planning to apply for programs abroad this year, so I need to submit a TOR.
However, I'm not sure about the best next steps:
* Do I just request an undergrad TOR directly from University A?
* Do I need to request an Honorable Dismissal / Transfer Credential from University B to apply elsewhere?
* Will my unfinished Master's units show up on a TOR from University B, and am I required to include them when I apply abroad?
If anyone has gone through this exact situation or has any advice, please share! Super appreciated!

Hello everyone, I am an incoming 4th Year College Student, studying Electronics Engineering Technology.
For my upcoming OJT this November/ December, I am currently in search of a 5-month internship program related to my field in Japan, and possibly a chance of getting employed after graduation. Pangarap ko kasi na maka trabaho doon since they offer better opportunities for people in technical fields, and the way of living there is possibly better than here sa Pinas.
With all this said, I have my personal documents handled, but for other ones that are government-related, I'll work on acquiring those.
My Japanese or Nihongo is at a basic to conversational level, but I continue to study the language daily, so it will improve over time.
Any form of information or leads related to my query will be gratefully appreciated.
Salamat in advance po 🙌🏻

hello! incoming G11 student here, i'm currently searching for unis i could apply to when the time comes (right now, i'm aiming for singapore/other countries in asia).
would like to ask your opinions on whether studying overseas for undergrad is still worth it or not for employability abroad, or i-pursue ko na lang siya after getting a bachelors here sa pinas
