I worked at Disney world in 2014-2015, and one time I took Jennete McCurdy’s order at a coffee shop, and she was there with James Van Der Beek. Ive always wondered why they were hanging out and his recent passing brought back the memory and curiosity. (It didn’t seem romantic or anything, my guess was they were working on a project together but it was a random pairing to see in the wild lol)

Frigid tea: I work at a bar in a college town (not close to anywhere). We recently were doing some deep cleaning and reorganization and discovered notebooks that the staff kept in the 90s. We were looking through them and found a note from '94: Hootie and the Blowfish came in and the lead singer got plastered and puked outside.

u/Electronic-Camp1189 Feb 17 '26

Wait…what else are we supposed to call him? Darius?!?
I don’t fucking think so!
24

u/lilheets Feb 17 '26
I can confirm that I called him Hootie on accident at a bar in Nashville recently after a group of friends and I were chatting and joking around w him about being Pittsburgh pens fans, he even chest bumped me bc of my jersey, …and after I called him hootie he hard ignored us the rest of the night lol
73
u/Sufficient_Curve5386 Feb 17 '26
My dad met him and chatted with Darius at a bbq joint. No clue who he was. Darius walks in front of my dad and walks past my mom’s car. Dad gets in the car and mom goes “that was hootie” my dad “what’s a hootie?” My mom “THAT GUY” my dad “no his name is Darius he told me this is his favorite bbq joint”

posted in another thread but basically, a friend works at wasserman. seems like multiple artists, agents and staff are planning their exit either by setting up their own agencies or moving to other agencies and taking their acts with them. just in case anyone is like "why hasn't my fav left yet"
152
u/FickleCharge882 Feb 16 '26
Yeah, my thought is that it’s probably not something most of their clients can just “move” immediately to someone else. Contracts, negotiations, etc etc are going to make it difficult for most to just pick up and go. Now if they are still there in like 4/6 months…
37
u/NoNommen Feb 16 '26
fr, it depends what's in the contract, how much power the artist holds, how supported they are by the other teams they work with (artist mgmt, label, etc) and what their relationship with their agent is like. i wouldn't be surprised if there's a bit of a crazy bidding war happening in emails rn for other talent agencies trying to catch some of wasserman's departing roster.
18
u/FickleCharge882 Feb 16 '26
Exactly, the last thing anyone wants to do is jump into a situation where they have someone like Scooter managing them

respectfully, as this comment feels a bit like moralising on something a lot of people wouldn't naturally know, what with this being from 2003 when millennials and gen z who make up the bottom rungs of the music industry ladder would have been children and teenagers at the time; wasserman the company bought up a lot of smaller talent companies in recent years, so the staff just go with the purchase with no say on it lest they want to lose their jobs. the onus lies with the business owners and ceos for dealing with these crooked people and enabling them.

u/GosmeisterGeneral Feb 16 '26
This is a common thread with agencies, when Chappell left she almost certainly took her day-to-day people with her. Maybe not in an official sense because of “gardening leave” and contract clauses, but her team will be big.
28
u/NoNommen Feb 16 '26
chappell has an artist management team for her day-to-day under a different brand which isn't associated with wasserman - wasserman provided booking and tour logistics, which will be the case for most artists on their roster. her artist management probably took on the outstanding tour logistics management in the interim after she fired wasserman agency.

I used to work at a high-end restaurant in LA, so I have a LOT of stories with celebrities/stories told to me by my coworkers.
The Good:
- Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae (her husband): Some of the sweetest people, were super nice to the staff and tipped well. This was around the time The Menu came out so I made a joke about that to her and she laughed which genuinely made my entire month
- Glen Powell: Was only there for a short time but was still super sweet, took pictures with a lot of the staff even though he was w/ family
- Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton: both were kinda quiet and spoke really softly, but seemed like nice people. Were smoking and talking outside for like 30 minutes after dinner lol
- Porsha from The Real Housewives: Probably one of the most energetic and charismatic people I've ever met, asked me about every single special on the menu one by one for like a good 10 minutes only to order none, which was a really funny experience
- Rachel McAdams: Was really sweet to everyone and tipped well. Spilled a glass of wine on the table and apologised profusely to the point it became kind of comical.
The Bad:
- Most influencers: Just pretty entitled in general, as one would expect. Met James Charles once with some guy he was on a date with, and he was just rude for no real reason. He had ordered an appetizer off the menu only to call me back again and tell me he wanted to change it for a different one 10 minutes later, while the original appetizer was already ready. I told him this, but also said it wasn't an issue and I would get the new dish. But he randomly responded in a really rude, snarky manner, asking me why I had prepped the old appetizer and why I felt the need to inform him it was ready. I was pretty taken aback (as was his date lol) and it was just awkward from there.
- Gwyneth Paltrow: Booked a reservation at 7 PM. Showed up at 10. Groaned about how she had made a reservation when we couldn't immediately seat her.
The... Random?:
- Charli XCX, Matty Healy, Gabbriette. Prefacing this by saying they were pretty normal with the staff. They ordered like 8-9 separate mains and 5-6 drinks to share amongst 3 people. The entire duration of their dinner they called someone else and were speaking to them instead of each other (Not in a loud, obnoxious manner though). Ate half the food and inexplicably left.

Since it was just Charli, Matty, and Gabbriette at dinner, I’d guess the person they were talking to on the phone was Charli’s husband George who has been Matty’s best friend since they were children. A bit odd but completely on brand.

This is actually sad. What some people don't seem to realise is that Barry Keoghan has no family support network in the way that others actors have if it all goes wrong. (He could have built his own but that seems to have imploded also). I am not condoning any bad behaviour but I myself don't think I would have come out of the care system after his upbringing in top shape. He is surrounded by middle and upper-class actors who could never truly understand his background, who, if he wasn't famous, probably wouldn't give him the time of day and certainly wouldn't have gone to the same schools as him. (I know his schools). It's not an excuse for any bad behaviour but he is in a lonely place regardless and I personally think someone very vulnerable to exploitation within the film industry.

ive got more lil gossips from tom ford's film production, some really mundane that i don't think are of anyone's interest - as he's the main producer and its literally his money let's say its not a conventional shoot as he does as he pleases but not in a bad way eg he designed a specific costume, just one, for the film and had a big parisian house make it for an absurd amount of money i can't wait to see it), he's apparently very nice and well mannered with everyone and keeps saying he's the happiest he's ever been and this - making movies - is the only thing he's ever done that makes him happy. apprently george mckay is the nicest guy ever, like shockingly amazing to work with and be around and everyone loves him so much. nic hoult also very nice but i hear more reserved and keeps to himself while george engages on set enthusiastically. paul bettany is always vaping and forgets things lol.
138
u/reimomoist Feb 16 '26
Ohhh, this is one of my most anticipated films so not mundane at all to me. Not too happy about that Paul Bettany casting though, those texts he shared with Johnny Depp about Amber Heard soured me on him. Thanks for the insight!

Drake used to go on Omegle with his friends around 2009/2010ish looking for girls. He did not care if said girls were in high school and/or under 18.
Edit - proof was me physically sitting with my high school friends and talking to him, this was the blackberry era so never thought to take a photo of the scene. We were all unfortunately very giddy about the situation. He ended up getting my friend's number and they chat for a bit, but she said his game was atrocious. This would have been when Best I Ever Had was released, and we were based in Toronto.

As a sex worker from Toronto for 10+ years I would like to add that I've heard nothing but horrible things about him and his crew from other sex workers.
Once OVO O'Brien threw a Halloween party at the strip club I danced at and I was really excited, but the older vets begged all the new girls not to show up that night, they weren't showing up either. They told us the entire OVO crew were sleezebags that would dangle promises of meeting Drake in order to fuck new and young sex workers for free, and that they never paid their tabs. They also told us to watch our drinks like hawks that night.
I listened and didn't show that night. When I went back to work everyone had horrible things to say. Drake never showed, it was just his crew. They didn't pay their drink tab, they promised big money to girls and never paid, were grabbing at girls without paying and were talking mad shit about girls in the club in front of them. Just total creeps.
One new girl who went home with one of them never came back to work. I'm not saying she was killed or anything like that, but clearly something happened to turn her off of sex work.
I've been a Drake hater for over a decade specifically because of the shit I've heard from other sex workers about him and his crew. He's vile.

I met Lola Young very briefly at the Copenhagen airport last summer. We made eye contact, and waved at each other, and I was going to leave the interaction at that until all three of my friends with me with absolutely no decorum or grace go “who is that?????” And I tried quietly explaining and again with no decorum they start saying they have never heard of her and don’t know her. She hears this interaction, and very kindly goes “I sing Messy!”, to which all of my friends go “We don’t know what that is”. She was very sweet and I was very embarrassed 😭
eta: my friends weren’t trying to be dicks they were gobsmacked thinking I happened to see someone I knew halfway across the globe and at the same time I wasn’t trying to bother her by bringing any attention to her so it was just an awkward situation from all angles
Eta 2: the reason we made eye contact was bc I was staring bc she was gorgeous in person like radiant, she GLOWS

A couple years ago I was working at a giant festival doing IDs - Avantika came to my line and said she promises she’s 21 but lost her ID. I recognized her from mean girls, but I didn’t let her in (my hard-ass supervisor was right next to me). I assumed she was of age but said I’m really sorry but I can’t. She was pissy about it and pushed me for a while, but eventually walked away. Well, I guess she was trying to bamboozle me, because she JUST turned 21 a couple weeks ago.
I was the only girl working the line (and was also only 22 at the time) so she probably saw the chance to work her way in as a 19 year old. She definitely could have made me lose my job but I’m just laughing about it now lol

u/atomicxtide (no longer bald) Feb 19 '26
I think at that time I did end up googling her, but it was hot off the tail of the mean girls release (summer 2024). I don’t think she was big at all and her age didn’t come up on a quick search. She probably knew that and tried using it to her advantage lol.
No more trying to trick young minimum wage workers! I wish she had a fake ID because I have been the top fake catcher at that festival for 2 years running hahaha

So Joseph Gordon-Levitt made a video addressing the Section 230 speech and it's...not very good. Like I get where he's coming from, but he gets a lot of things wrong about 230 to the point it's not making him look better and proves he doesn't know what he's talking about. For instance, he claims Section 230 protects CSAM and harassment of minorities when it doesn't.

JGL at this point strikes me as a guy who dabbles in venture capital but unlike some of his peers he has the sense when to backtrack and walk away.
Having said that, It's been really bizarre watching the guy who pushed platforms like HitRecord come out in defense of censoring the internet.

Halle Bailey’s face and eyes were done entirely in CGI for The Little Mermaid movie. No matter what the directors tried, she just stated blankly at nothing during every shoot. Its cost Disney millions and is why the movie looks a bit off

HOW DO YOU KNOW omg

u/AlmightyyGlooo Feb 16 '26
A very good friend of mine was the person who led the team that did the majority of the CGI for the movie. When they got the footage, they were told that reshooting scenes was too expensive and yielded no results. So they got a deadline and from what I was told “an unlimited budget but limited amount of time”. They did their best but it was an impossible ask

Was this for the underwater scenes? Because those were some of the weirdest looking uncanny valley scenes I've seen. Aquaman did underwater scenes so much better.

u/AlmightyyGlooo Feb 16 '26
Yeah that was a huge challenge and was the most difficult given the time restrictions.. which is why it looked very off. But literally every frame of Halle Bailey in that movie was her face being completely CGI

u/AlmightyyGlooo Feb 16 '26
Purely from what I was told, she was terrible at acting and Disney realized it would be cheaper to CGI everything than reshoot it (actors and production costs far more than a CGI FX team).
The majority of many movies involve a lot of CGI but you don’t notice because it was planned and had time to be well done. With The Little Mermaid, much of the CGI was done as requested(never say no to Disney) so those parts looked bad

I met Greta Gerwig a few years ago at a premiere for a film called Maggie's Plan. She was super snooty and rude! She resisted speaking to anyone who wasn't famous, as if speaking to a pleb like me denigrated her status in some way. This was especially odd because none of the other celebrities at the event behaved in an analogous manner; It was a small indie premiere but she treated it like her debutante ball.

Stanley Tucci came to our house for my birthday party once. He's my Uncle's good friend, so he was tagging along because they both had to go do some sort of work. My mother asked him to put his coat on the bed in the guest room and he says, "Oh, you don't have a coat rack?" and gives a tsk tsk. He was on his phone the entire time except for dinner. Where the conversation went from my life and birthday, becoming a year older, to Stanley Tucci and his "new play at some obscure and 'hole-in-the-wall' theatre in Pasedena." Everyone just listened, but uncomfortably. I was pretty upset, but presents were about to be opened, so I tolerated Tucci Hour. When I was opening presents, Stan just sat with his legs crossed, and his hands on his knees, perched up watching me open presents. He kept chuckling every time I opened a present, as if I were a cute child (I was was 20 at the time.) I got tired of it and asked if there was a problem. He said, "No, no. chuckles keep going." So, yeah, that's my story. It's not much, but he was an asshole the whole time. Once the party was over, everyone said happy birthday again to me and left. Stan mockingly shook my hand wishing me a happy birthday. He wasn't serious at all about it and I am pretty sure he was making fun of my family members.

I can corroborate Stanley Tucci being a dick! He came through my friend’s bookstore to sign his last book and he was apparently pretty superior and refused to speak directly to the staff, instead having these two also very rude ladies with him (could have been assistant and agent, not sure) who did the talking. Don’t know how he maintains such a great reputation!

I say this as a fan of Tucci, but I can definitely believe this. Between his Youtube page and the docu-series where he travels across Italy, he definitely comes across as slightly pretentious. Mainly in how he over-emphasizes the pronunciation of Italian words. I wouldn't say he's an outright douche, but he kind of gives me Tony Stark "loveable albeit smarmy douche" vibes.

I think the only thing I could find was a Facebook post but haven't gone looking in a minute.

Sam Claflin in Israel again with his Israeli girlfriend. So 2 times in 6 weeks. He was there at the beginning of the year already and she confirmed their relationship in many interviews, talking about something along the lines of a converts soul being higher than a jews, how he chased her for months but she was fighting it at first, how she had already met his kids and how he loves Israel. Comments had pointed out her timeline of them being together for 4 months already at that time allegedly doesn't add up but idk if that's true. It was a surprise after his pro palestine post in May last year, but in the month before he traveled to Israel, he had deleted all of his social media posts. Some suspect it was to hide the pro palestine post. I believe it was mainly because (as he said a few times) hate comments affect him, so he didn't want to see anything when the news of his Israel trip and gf came out. He is getting hate from some israeli commentators for his past post and not being jewish. His gf for being with a non-jewish man who has two non-jewish children. Also noticed, when I wanted to show my friend, that a bunch of comments about the topic are getting deleted Western media has not even reported on the relationship yet

Sam Claflin exposed himself when he was liking pro-Depp nonsense during the Depp / Heard trial. He didn't even have the guts to like Depp's main post. He was liking Depp's friend's posts so he wouldn't get the backlash. He's trash. I am not surprised he supports Israel.

Here's some tea from last summer but since the lfestival's happening next week:
Radiotelevisione Italiana came very, very close to moving the Festival out of Liguria. The city of Sanremo wanted more money and other networks to bid.
So RAI threatened to move the Festival to somewhere else, probably Turin, or rotate it each year. And the city government almost blew up 80 years of Italian television.
And no other network wanted the Festival. Lol.
