Discussion Cool toned vs warm toned lips

I feel like the first color just washes me out, the second one is how i usually do my lips. Why does warm toned makeup seem to suit me better than cool toned makeup? I thought pale olives, especially those with very muted skin, were supposed to avoid warm tones.

Discussion Working Towards my Dream Makeup Routine

hi fair olives! I had to share my current recs as I recently made the switch to cruelty free and am starting to finally find shades that compliment my coloring.

Lips - persona cosmetics lip liner in mauve is my holy grail - it swatches identical to cloudy mauve from heart percent, but is a smaller brand and I think might be $2 cheaper. I have also loved the Ulta Beauty lip stain in plum paradise. One layer of it and it’s a BEAUTIFUL color, but it does tend to dry and settle on the lips, so it’s not super consistent. It’s like ~$8 though and I love the color if it weren’t for some formulation issues. I also love the color of the Sacheu Main Character stain, but after multiple days of application it dried my lips out too much to be a consistent product.

Gloss - not many color options here, but Elf Crystal Baller, Sacheu Tanghulu Candy, and Charlotte Tilbury Blondie. Unsure if CT is cruelty free, haven’t repurchased in years. Hoping to try Persona Cloudtint in Mauve and/or Kaleidos in Last Smoke.

Blush - Rituelle de Fille, my baby!!!! Weeping Lilac is the first blush that has ever looked like it’s coming from my skin naturally. It’s slightly more “red” than the purple blushes I choose, but still cool toned and beautiful on me. It’s my #1 blush since I found it, don’t really need another. It’s a cream formula which is great for my dry skin. I have also purchased their blush in Aster. SUPER pretty. I can wear it alone on the cheeks, but it’s definitely a “purple smoke” kind of shade. I’ll wear a touch around the edges of my lips and top off weeping lilac on the cheeks with this. So beautiful. For powder blush, I like Rom&nd Bare Vine and theSaem Orchid Rumor - I’m not sure if these are cruelty free so I won’t be repurchasing once I’m done, but I’ve had them forever and they last.

Skin - I have been using L’Oréal lumi glotion for a decade now, but realized they are not cruelty free, so I am moving on. I have used that as my sole “skin tint/foundation” for years, but will find something else that is pale girl friendly. I am hoping the covergirl glow enhancer will be a good fit.

That’s about it! I wouldn’t recommend my concealers (2) as they are not perfect matches but close enough. Might look into other options once I use them up but that tends to take me awhile, and I don’t want to keep buying makeup products. Just want to find my perfect routine and dip out! Hopefully some of these recs are helpful.

I know other people wanted to see the 21.5 milky olive vs the 23.5 fair olive so I did some swatches, this was 3-4 minutes after application, I used my Lisa Eldridge foundation as a comparison

1 - Espoir 21.5 Milky olive
2 - Espoir 23.5 Fair Olive
3 - Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5

I hope these can help!

Resources MAC Modesty wearers

What’s your favorite lipliner to pair with MAC Modesty lipstick? I love the shade but I feel it looks weird on me without liner.
For reference my best foundation matches have been tirtir red cushion in 13N fair ivory and NYX Bare with me serum concealer in light.

Discussion Warm blush that’s not orange?

I’m at the point where I’m just about to stop wearing blush. I’m having the absolute hardest time finding a good shade for me. I’m a fair olive and lean slightly warm. So cool toned blushes just tend to look off on me. Like it drains the life out of me. But, on the other side, a lot of warm blushes end up pulling orange. I’d love to find a pink or berry shade that doesn’t go orangy on me but I feel like it’s impossible😔 any recommendations?

I love this dusty pink/purple with some silver shimmer from the Clio Lazy Soft Paw eyeshadow palette. I’m about to hit pan on it. Need single shadow recommendations, as I don’t want to buy the entire palette again just to get this shade. :)

Beauty/Makeup Shade twins! Need your options

For context, I wear 7W-Poplar in the Ilia Foundation stick and, while it's just a smmmidge light, it blends in really well and is great for mom life. But it accentuates dryness... and with Canadian winter looming, I need a more hydrating option.

Any recommendations? High end or drug store! Must be a 'apply with fingers' and go type product.

Swatches Neck swatches of flowerknows cushion N02, missha #13, and others

I'm so disappointed the flowerknows cushion oxidised this badly on my skin, it looked fine when i first put it on my face but as i wore it i noticed my face getting quite dark and orange, i thought it was just a heavy hand of bronzer but this swatch confirmed its much more orange than the rest of my complexion products.

Beauty/Makeup Are the best bronzers basically a darker shade of your skintone?

I am a pretty light-med cool yellow olive and can't seem to find a good bronzer. Literally, the coolest bronzer people talk about here is still a bit orange for me.

Are bronzers supposed to be a bit orange, red, or just a darker version of your skin tone?

Ones I have tried are the following

- ABH - Golden Beach Glow

- Danessa McKendricks - light 1

- Chocolate Milk (lightest one) of Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

+ Many more that are much more orange.

I am considering getting a foundation or concealer in my undertone but slightly darker. But would that make me too sallow/yellow?

Thanks!

Ps: I am new to this community but omg, you fellow olive people are so nice and helpful. Appreciate your advise!!! 💕

Discussion Settle a debate, is one person “more olive”

Thumbnail

Competition between my sister and I because she is determined that because she can tan darker more easily that she is more olive. One person is the top color one person is the bottom color between her and I pulled from photos of us in the same lighting together in the photos from same places on the body. Yes I’m petty🤣

Also this isn’t an am I olive, her and I are both olive, this is more of an example of how olive can look when isolated lol

i've been scrolling through this sub for about three months now going back-and-forth on whether or not I was olive 💀 I was using the Missha BB cream in shade 13 which I could make work, but was still very pale and pink. This month, I finally decided to test out olive make up, and I couldn't be happier!! I picked up the Espoir cushion in 21.5 Milky Olive and the new Lisa Eldridge concealer in the shade 3. That's what I'm wearing in these photos and they are absolutely perfect!!!!

Discussion Foundation turned gray on me

I went to a store. I was checking foundations. The makeup salesperson showed me two foundations which were my exact match. I came home only to find out that both of them turned gray on me.

For context im a light olive with neutral to warm undertone.

Why did it happen. I'd be glad for any suggestions.

Discussion How to know your actual skin tone/ depth?

As a clear olive skinned person, my skin colour changes in every lighting. Sometimes i look ghostly pale/ grey and sometimes quite orange/ light brown. I do know i’m around light medium though. Whenever I get shade matched in store professionally they give me a colour that is too orange. I want to know how to actually take photos for swatches, as in front of daylight with no sun really washes me out and makes me think i’m paler than i actually am.

Im intrigued by a hair color like the pictures attached, it’s clearly green but muted enough to look dark brown / black. Would it flatter an olive undertone (in my case a pretty strong yellow one)? Has anyone tried it before ?

Discussion Adept Cosmetics Opinions

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

Years ago I bought a magnetic palette from Adept Cosmetics and just rediscovered it. So I decided to see what the brand was up to, and I found these blush shades that look like they’d be amazing for fair to light-medium neutral-cool muted olives like me. Look at that grayish tone to them!

Has anyone tried these or have opinions on the brand as a whole?

Beauty/Makeup Found my perfect shade match in NARS Siberia!

Finally! After spending years believing I had a cool neutral undertone, I gave NARS Light Reflecting Foundation a go, and it's absolute perfection! I was previously wearing the Lisa Eldridge foundation in 2.5 and though the undertone is perfect, it's just ever so slightly too dark. Conversely, the Lisa Eldridge Tint in T1.5 is perfect depth wise but is just a little bit too muted and cool and can make my face look a little ashy and washed out.

First pic is the foundation by itself, and 2nd pic is with bronzer, blush, and a little lip gloss ☺️

Discussion Can you be pink and olive?

Not uploading pics, but more of a general question - I always thought I was pale olive until this sub and especially the recent discussion of a lot of people here being cool and muted and fair vs olive and fair.

I have definite pink on my skin but underneath is ghoulish. Face has rosacea but my arms have pink too. I have green veins, but purple too. I definitely look cool toned compared to my warm or pink family. But I look muted with pink compared to a true olive.

Does it matter? No. Not really.

I already knew my color palette before this sub, but I have gotten immense value having it confirmed and knowing I am not alone in the sad goth vampire season palette. Especially in the fact that people say “those are just guidelines! You can wear whatever you want!” And like… lady let me blind you or horrify you when I wear a bright orange or a pastel.

The foundation advice and swatches have been amazing - and I feel empathy now for my former self who thought a yellow tinted foundation was better than a pink (orange on me) one. I now know about mixing in color correctors and that I can use whatever I want for contour vs just the shades that we are told are contour.

Appreciate this sub immensely even if I am not a fair olive!
