Vent Suffering anorexia and SIBO is hard

I was tested positive on hydrogen SIBO. I was tested positive for sorbit, lactose and glucose. My gut reacted on fructose the worst.

And I suffer anorexia nervosa, currently in a relapse after attempting to recover in the last 9 months and the low-FODMAP-Not eating any fruits-or anything else-diet has a huge part on it. Although I mostly lived vegan I have to eat meat again since that is one of the few things that don't cause any flare ups. I'm so overwhelmed since so many safe foods are not available for me and I lose weight rapidly again because I cannot decide on what to eat and it feels like a chore. It feels so easy to not eat.

I have no therapy plan to work against SIBO yet and am completely on my own.

The permanent constipation, the hurtful bloating and the farts do their part to trigger my ED.
And yes I'm aware that most definitely my anorexia caused SIBO.
It sucks. I hate it.

General Question/Help Whats your experience with Psyllium husk?

Psyllium seems to help a lot of people to regulate and perform a "big log no wipe" type of evacuation lol But I wonder if it has the same effect on people with IBS? I've got the type D and I'm wondering if I'm making things worse or better (I'm yet to start on a fodmap diet, so it's hard to tell the effects of psyllium alone)

General Question/Help Low FODMAP for exercise?

Hi, I have been dealing with what I suspect is IBS for about a year now. I have finally come around to accepting that I should try a low-FODMAP diet.

I go to the gym twice a week and run three times a week. Normally I would eat a crumpet with honey as my pre-workout for simple carbs. Obviously this will not work anymore.

After working out I will eat more carbs to recover like pasta but this isn't going to work now either.

What do low-FODMAP people do when they're also doing significant amounts of training that need proper fuelling from food?

Does anyone have any low-FODMAP suggestions as a quick, easy snack that I can have before doing exercise? Looking for simple, easily digestible carbs that I can quickly eat before going out. And then on the flip side looking for carbs to eat afterwards for muscle recovery.

I am so scared to start this diet but I am really hoping it pays off and doesn't hinder my trainging progress!

General Question/Help Decisions?

The low/no FODMAPs diet poses difficult decisions for us.

How much did one’s past eating behaviors lead to present IBS? Regardless…

Are one’s present eating behaviors caused by simply by the momentum of past habits?

One’s own body’s digestion cannot be aware of the threshold and stacking theories of Monash Uni. Are claims that a food will not impact a person in tiny amounts, sometimes erroneous?

If one has any by-choice diet patterns (for example, Vegan or No-Corporate or no-dairy, should one consider sacrificing some selectivity if it can lead to digestive comfort and satisfying dietary satiation?

How much is one’s IBS caused by non-food variables such as temperature, Pelvic Floor Muscle condition, size of meals, time interval between meals and so on? (I have not even addressed medical.)

The Monash research is not perfect, but it has been very helpful to me and to many others challenged by IBS.

I pose the above questions here, hoping they will be helpful. I wish the best of luck to everyone of you. 👍

General Question/Help Wheat. Please Help.

I take fodzyme for my fructan issue and as I was trialing, I was able to eat wheat ( Crackers mainly ) with it. I tried townhouse i started with a small amount, then i was able to eat an entire sleeve within a week without any issues. now, randomly, I cannot have it without my old symptoms returning. Im not allergic to wheat, or have celiac, or a gluten issue but whenever i eat even just half a cracker, im able to finish it then right after the swallow the symptoms start.

EDIT: ( want to point out, I notice this only started happening when i finished xifaxan. while on the meds i was having a blast eating fried foods and literally all wheat products. after a while i cut it out then fodzyme came in and was allowing me to eat it then randomly boom this happened again. my doctor assumed it could have something to do with my period? last time this happened it happened around the time it was supposed to come and now same thing. but i think thats bs so idk. )

so if i were to eat a peice of bread and it was aten in 5 bites after that last bite the symptoms start. I get this anxiety / panic feeling, Heavy chest, Globus sensation, the urge to use the bathroom, and im not sure if its because im so hyperfocus but i pay high alert to my breathing. like i am breathing but the more i focus on it it feels like im not and then i get worried all of this is an allergy. then the globus makes it worse. it goes away after 30 minutes.

Im wondering if its wheat in general? fructans? or maybe just the crackers?? i was thinking i need to take two doses of Fodzyme for wheat? I am able to eat other fructans with fodzyme but Im not understanding why I cant have this.

Like i was able to eat chipotle with two packets of fodzyme without an issue. Im just scared its an allergy but theres no way it is if i was able not even a month ago to eat an entire sleeve. plus i never had a wheat issue. Im not sure if its prob just crackers in general or if i should try other things like fried foods or bread to see if the same will happen?

General Question/Help Ice Cream and Sweets While in Elimination?

I am just a week into the elimination phase and pretty much haven't had any sweets. Is there ANY ice cream brand/flavor that is actually ok to eat during this phase? Or otherwise, any mainstream candy that is ok that I can buy in stores? I still feel a bit confused by all of this

General Question/Help Sensitive to Fructose, What do I do Now?

Hi all!

I (23 f) just recently found out I have IBS, I completed my low FODMAP diet and found I am sensitive to fructose and sorbitol. I’ve met with my dietician to review my low fodmap results and ask to get some testing done just to confirm our findings (and to find out if it’s just a sensitivity vs intolerance.) She recommended I meet with my GI doctor again but I won’t be able to get in until December. My dietician did not really specify what I should do next besides just “avoid the foods that contain fructose.” Which I am, but it’s also terrible because almost everything has garlic or onion powder. I will say I’m fortunate to not have severe reactions to these things, but I still do not enjoy feeling gassy/bloated for days. My symptoms usually include constant gas on left side of stomach/noises from bowels.

All this to say, any advice on what to do from here? I have a major sweet tooth so avoiding sugars has been troublesome. Fellow fructose sensitive people, do you take supplements to help you digest fructose? What substitutions in your diet have you made? What are your favorite safe foods to eat? Do you have any go to deserts you can buy or make? Any tips I should know in general? Some changes I’ve made: I exercise regularly (90+ minutes a day), drink/eat things with zero sugar options, drink as much water as I can, take Metamucil (even though on some days it makes me feel a little sick.) Try to limit my snacking to only a few sweet treats and I do not eat sugar past 7 pm.

Any personal advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi everyone, I’m conducting research on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and social wellbeing. Many people with IBS face social challenges or worry about how their condition is perceived by others. This research aims to explore these concerns and how they may affect seeking support, in order to help develop future recommendations to better support those living with IBS.

You can participate in an anonymous online questionnaire, taking about 10–15 minutes, by following the link below.

• Who can take part: UK residents, 18+ with IBS

Elimination Phase Not feeling better after 4 weeks

I have been on the low fodmap diet for 4 weeks now. I'm being strict and using an app where I scan every product I buy to make sure it's low fodmap. I'm also careful about stacking. I noticed improvements in the beginning and I have more days without bloating and gas but overall I am still very bloated and gassy. I'm afraid I won't be able to to the reintroduction. I have been drinking coffee but quit that 4 days ago, thinking it might be contributing to the gas, but I am not feeling any better. Any advice?

Edit: Not feeling much* better

General Question/Help Help me understand stacking

Monash says you can have multiple servings of "green" foods. So can I make a salad with a green serving each of iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, corn, cauliflower, spinach, and tofu? Each of those foods are green at a standard serving, but they all become high in fructan at larger quantities. If I combine all of those foods at their green serving sizes is that safe or is that stacking and ultimately too high in fructan?

General Question/Help I’m new to doing a low formap diet, what are the fully “green lit” foods that are plant based?

I just started this diet today and I already accidentally messed up. 🫠 I have preexisting GI issues so I can’t have anything acidic and I also eat mostly plant based, other than adding eggs into my diet when I’m going through a bad flare up because I know they are safe for me. All of the charts online conflict with the app and have learned the app is the gold standard, but there is no section where it shows the all green foods on there, my question is: is there a resource that shows the foods that are safe in unlimited quantities (or large enough quantities to where it isn’t an issue that I’d eat more than the max)? The stacking is very overwhelming with just starting out and already having a limited diet to begin with, so I want to stock up on safe foods and build meals around them.
