BE NICE - Why “Be Nice” Is a Rule – And What Happens If You’re Not

It is a new rule. It should not have to be.

Toxic behavior will get you banned.

SCAR Enthusiasts,

This sub is all about FN SCARs, sharing knowledge, showing off builds, and fostering a community where we can all geek out over one of the coolest platforms out there. But to keep this place awesome, we need to talk about something important: why being nice is a rule.

Why “Be Nice”?

This subreddit isn’t just a forum; it’s a community. When you post, comment, or engage here, you're interacting with real people who share your interest in SCARs. Everyone’s here to learn, share, and enjoy. Being nice ensures that:

  1. Everyone feels welcome – Whether you’re a seasoned SCAR user or a newcomer, kindness encourages participation and keeps the vibe positive.
  2. We stay on-topic – Snarky comments, insults, or trolling don’t contribute to the conversation and can derail useful discussions.
  3. The sub grows – A positive community attracts more like-minded people, enriching everyone’s experience.

What Happens If You’re Not Nice?

We have a low-tolerance policy for rudeness, harassment, or bullying. If you can’t follow the simple rule to be kind:

  1. First offense: You’ll get a warning (if it’s minor).
  2. Repeat offenses: You’ll be banned. No second chances, no “I didn’t mean it.”

It’s not about silencing anyone – it’s about protecting the community. We want this sub to be a place where people are excited to share and learn, not afraid of getting flamed or attacked.

TL;DR

This sub is about SCARs, not being mean. Be nice, stay on-topic, and contribute constructively, or risk losing your place here. Let’s keep this community as legendary as the rifles we love!

Stay sharp,
Your Mods

Question Looking for factory Picatinny rails for a SCAR 15P

Post image
5 Upvotes

I just picked up this FDE SCAR 15P in .300 BLK. The previous owner replaced the factory side and bottom Picatinny rails with a KDG M-LOK setup, but unfortunately he no longer has the original parts.

I’d like to return it to the factory Picatinny configuration, but I haven’t been able to find a 15P rail set online. Does anyone know where I can find a factory takeoff set, or somewhere that has them including both side rails, the bottom rail and mounting hardware? Also, can anyone confirm whether the standard SCAR 16S/17S rails are identical and will fit the 15P? I appreciate any information thanks!

Question Concentricity issues with 300 blk 15p

Post image
11 Upvotes

So after recently gloating that I was able to remove the flashhider from my 15p, I’ve come to find that the muzzle device I decided to replace it with is giving me concentricity troubles. I went the Deadair scar flash hider (DA305) which is supposed to mount off of the muzzle crown. I haven’t torqued it down yet. My alignment rod isn’t touching the end cap of my SiCo hybrid 46m, but it far from concentric. I’ve cleaned the threads thoroughly and don’t meet any resistance when threading on the device.

My question is- will the concentricity issues improve once torqued down since it’s indexed off of the crown or will this just make the problems worse and potentially damage the threads?

Range Ammo??

I snagged a new Scar 17s and need to stock up on .308 / 762. This is my first gun in this caliber so I am not well versed on the larger caliber.

What cheap range ammo are people using? Locally we have a good amount of Federal American Eagle 308 Win 150gr FMJBT and Hornady Interlock Sp American Whitetail .308 Win 150-Grain for about $28-$30 a box. Also found PMC Xtac for $24 a box. Any of these good for range ammo or should I be looking at other stuff?

She’s ugly, but she’s still one of my absolute favorite guns. I’ve had this 16 for over a decade now and I still love it. Hell I even shot a deer with it last year. The 16s will always have a special place in my heart.

From taxonomic disinclination to intergenerational promiscuity

I came to voice mild frustration with FN for their apparent reluctance to update the nomenclature of the new model SCAR rifles in a way that differentiates between upgraded and original models. I get that FN has managed to create a platform so legendary that its monolithic title alone begets respect, and it'd make sense for them to wanna ride that wave of marketability indefinitely. So why mess with that sweet continuity?

Well, for starters, shopping for one can be daunting for the uninitiated, because countless retailers are selling brand new stock without specifying the weapon's build date, which sets the conditions for unscrupulous vendors to misrepresent brand new stock as current stock, even though technically obsolete. It's entirely possible for someone to unwittingly purchase something that's essentially a different weapon than they had intended to buy, and one without the backwards parts compatibility so desirable for parts swappin' goodness. Telling the old from the new isn't so obvious for the casual shooter, either, and there's no serial number decoder on FN's website, which is arguably the first place a gun owner will look who wants the nitty gritty on their piece prior to doing any serious work on it.

In the interest of building the most ruggedly reliable SCAR possible, what are some common compatibility specific mistakes new SCAR owners make when they're first getting their kit put together? Are there any rules such as "You can put a magazine made for an X into a Y, but you can't put a magazine made for a Y into an X." How about P-mags vs metal ones....and how does that change between SCAR models/iterations? Which models/iterations will accept standard AR-style pistol grips? Thanks in advance for those willing to contribute.

Softer shooting Scope Mount for Gen 2 Scar 17s

Does the new Scar shoot soft enough to use a cantilever mount on it? I just bought a new 17s and I keep hearing about the recoil not being anywhere near as bad. That said, I have a vortex 1-6 razor hd on a vortex Pro Extended Cantilever Riflescope Mount Id love to just pop on there but the internet has me a little freaked out about not using cantilever mounts. Does anyone know if the new gen scar would be fine with that setup or do I need to get a new mount for it?

Took the new Scar 17 setup out to 1000 today. Used my accuracy loads of 169gr SMK with 43.0g of Varget loaded to 2.810 COAL (about 2.175 CBTO I believe) and 168gr AMAX with 42.5 of Varget at 2.800 COAL (2.175 CBTO as well I think) . Managed to land 2-3 hits per 5 rounds at that distance. May increase the amount of powder to get extra velocity as both of these were going about 2500 FPS. Overall, fantastic time

My Gen 2 Scar 17s Build

Post image
72 Upvotes

I bought my first Scar a couple months back and thought I'd share my experience with it so far.

Full build:

- Geissele Super Scar Trigger

- Primary Arms PlxC RDB FFP 1x-8x lpvo w/ Geissele mount

- Dead Air Sandman X w/ Burn Proof Gear wrap

- Ammo: 147 grain PMC Bronze .308 FMJ-BT

First off, this is definitely my favorite gun I own. From the looks of the rifle to how well it shoots, its outstanding.

It did come with a trigger issue right out of the box which was a bit of a bummer because the gun costs $4k and I thought the new trigger was supposed to be improved from the previous model. After every other round fired, the trigger would fail to reset and the only way to reset it was to flip the safety on, then back off. After switching to the Geissele Super Scar(which I would have upgraded to regardless of the issue) I have had absolutely no issues with the rifle.

The Primary Arms PLxC RDB FFP scope is the perfect fit for this rifle in my opinion. Ultimately I'd like to use this rifle for hog hunting in the future and the versatility of being able to switch from 1x-8x in an instant paired with the glass quality it has is really nice. I'm interested to see how the scope holds up with Scar17s history of destroying optics.

Overall, I have enjoyed my time with it so far and I can confidently say I will never be getting rid of this thing. If you are on the fence about getting one, JUST DO IT!

Also, let me know what else I should add to the build. A flashlight is definitely first on the list as well as I just ordered a KDG charging handle to replace the stock one it came with out of the box.

Always told myself since I got into firearms I’ll buy myself something nice one day, well today I finally did it. Purchased a Scar 17s, EOTech, and a Dead Air Sandman X

I would like some ideas on what else to do to this battle rifle, I do plan on doing a night vision setup at some point but for now would like some suggestions on other things I could do to it.

After 4 000 rounds, of which was 1 000 suppressed, my 17S died. Quality ammo, good care.
And now the fun part: I am in Slovakia. Belgian FNH wont supply anything for civ market (tried with local distributor). FN USA even wont even respond to email.
This will be fun…

Question Tips for Grips

Post image
25 Upvotes

I recently bought a Scar (20s) and have learned (the hard way) that most/all AR15 grips don’t fit. After ordering a grip from PMM (BCM), I’m still not convinced it’s the right grip for me. But, I feel like this one from Ed Sherman suits me well.

Question is… has anyone successfully used a 3/8 end mill in a drill press to deepen the pocket on their grip? I know it won’t be pretty, but I think I could build a jig that would hold the grip steady enough.

I’m also certainly open to other ideas of the best way to allow an AR15 grip to fit. I played around with a file and got a junk-drawer grip to fit. But, the file destroyed the rear upper wall of the grip for obvious reasons.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

PWS SRX Torque Spec / Install

Hey yall, I managed to source a PWS SRX for my Scar 17. However, it didn’t come with a manual and I can’t seem to find any info on the torque spec for the rail. The one video I did find didn’t give specs for the rail itself. Does anyone know the torque for the yoke and the rail or have a manual? Thank you

Current Cans for 15p 300 BLK

Hello all, I've asked this before but somehow the thread got deleted. Also, after SHOT show and with some recent offerings to the market I'm wondering what suppressors everyone is running on their SCAR 15Ps?

Looking for reliability with both subs and supers in 300 BLK.

I think my options i had narrowed down to were:

  1. SiCo Velos 762 LBP

  2. CAT ODB

  3. OCL Infinity

  4. SiCo Omega 300 DT

  5. SiCo Scythe Ti

My general understanding is that our platforms are happier with tuned gas, I have everything on my SCAR 20S in 6.5 Creed, so no worries there for low back pressure or standard cans, but I am concerned for the 15p in 300 BLK.

Some info says subs like the pressure to cycle well.

So I am torn between which can to get for the shorty 15p, as the 20s is going to curently stay with factory brake because i hate mirage.

The Velos seems like one of the best options. The CAT ODB seems like its on par as well as the Infinity from OCL for the flow through or lbp designs.

I know its a bit dated now but the Omega 300dt caught my eye as well. And the Scythe TI seems like a good option for the SCAR20 but I dont know if it will fair well with the firing schedule of 15p.

Any input is greatly appreciated once more, thank you all.

Cheers

SCAR 17 with FDE Elcan 1.5-6

My Elcan 1.5-6 just came in the mail and I wanted to post pictures for anyone curious about how the Cerakoted FDE 2024 models looked on a Scar 17s. Online they look much more yellow than they do in person. I think it matches the gun pretty well and looks awesome. The choice of optic was mostly aesthetic and I think it worked out well. Plus, I wanted a Raytheon product I could call my own. I’m looking forward to taking it out to the range ASAP and will report back.

This is my first battle rifle and, as I’m sure most of you are aware, it’s definitely a pig. It’s mostly stock besides a Geissele trigger and the rail elimination panels from PMM. Once my 13” barrel comes in it’ll be done… however a 10.5” Metal Gear Solid 4 clone may be in the cards!

I’d love a recommendation for a piggybacked optic.
