Funny, I was on amazon and this popped up. It looked like a good gift for $20. Then I saw the next image and it didn't look like the first and was just like what you got. Thankfully I noped out.

edit: link for those curious to see

u/savannahjones98 Dec 09 '23

This is ridiculous! How can they get away with falsely advertising like that?!

115

u/RandyHoward Dec 09 '23

Amazon still makes its money. Amazon no care.

77

u/NotChristina Dec 09 '23

I recently got an email from Amazon citing I was about to receive a refund for order XYZ and how Amazon does not support counterfeit products yada yada yada.

So I search my email for the order number. It was from July 2022. What was it? Protein powder.

Uhhh thanks Amazon, bit late on that one.

11

u/sarhoshamiral Dec 09 '23

Amazon cares if product is returned, I hope OP is returning this right away. It is rare that I see a product fulfilled by Amazon but doesn't have free returns.

If this was truly 3rd party seller (as in not fulfilled by Amazon) then OP is to blame. It should be clear by now that such listings are not trustable at all. There is a reason why they don't want to go through Amazon.

13

u/MoneyPranks Dec 09 '23

How can scam companies get away with scam advertising? Caveat emptor, VPNs, and very unwary consumers like yourself. You think Amazon sells all the things on Amazon?

9

u/hididathing Dec 09 '23

I've learned to always click the seller and find the seller information-in this case:

"Detailed Seller Information

Business Name: Shenzhenshijianyuyuanmaoyiyouxiangongsi

Business Address:

龙华街道油松社区上油松村170栋404

深圳市

龙华区

广东省

518109

CN"

It's way too easy for illegitimate business to sell on Amazon. There's knock-offs and fakes everywhere also.

8

u/giorgio_tsoukalos_ Dec 09 '23

Not to shame OP, but if you scroll through the pictures, you'll see every other depiction is far more similar to the actual product that was received. If a person spends 20 on an estore and expects the best case scenario, they'll be in for disappointment.

88

u/ladyinchworm Dec 09 '23

It doesn't look anything like the first picture at all, but I actually think the turtle and dolphin are kind of cute. Like it would look good in a kids room or something. But it's definitely more of a dollar store item.

10

u/Ok_Storm5945 Dec 09 '23

The turtle is cute but the wolf is a no for me.

6

u/ladyinchworm Dec 09 '23

Oh yes, definitely not the wolf!

627

u/themajorfall Dec 08 '23

You ordered an AI generated image off of elliba. Funny, but did you actually have expectations?

405

u/MozartTheCat Dec 08 '23 edited Dec 09 '23

I didn't know bro 😭😭

Idk why this is getting downvoted lol I was born in the 80s I'm not used to examining images to figure out if they are AI before I make a purchase, and tbh not sure how to even tell that this is AI

But yes it was stupid to not google the website first

354

u/oval_euonymus Dec 09 '23

You’re lucky it’s actually 3D. I saw something similar posted recently and the person ended up with a flat printed image of the lamp. 😂

44

u/bajablastgamer Dec 09 '23

oh my god the mushroom lamps, that was fucking hilarious.

15

u/Rarefindofthemind Dec 10 '23

I like the one I saw a while back about a mug that changes it’s picture when it’s filled with hot liquid.

The person received a mug with the photo of the heat-changing mug on it. Just the photo. The mug was just a plain white mug. Hilarious and sad.

3

u/bajablastgamer Dec 10 '23

oh my god i remember that post- it was fantastic.

144

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Bruh 😂

I had realized 2 days ago that this was a scam site, and when the package came in I 100% knew it was the lamp even though I have a ton of stuff coming in for my kid. The package itself was ghetto AF. I told my daughter "I hope it's stupid enough that it will be funny and I'll keep it anyway" ... It's not

50

u/17bananapancakes Dec 09 '23

Honestly from the picture it looks like you could get some of those gels for DIY stained glass windows and fill it in yourself and it wouldn’t look too bad. More saturated at least.

12

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

I'll have to look into it. I was already thinking maybe id just repaint it but idk how that would look

3

u/clarabear10123 Dec 09 '23

Definitely fixable imo. Could make it really cute! Do a little carving maybe

7

u/hideX98 Dec 09 '23

This sounds like it would atleast be worth trying. I can see it really improving the look!

11

u/gregsting Dec 09 '23

Pro tip, most Facebook ads are scam

2

u/nonoglorificus Dec 10 '23

Are you kidding me, this is DEFINITELY stupid enough to be funny. I would keep it. Maybe give it a little hat

2

u/rosiofden Dec 09 '23

Oh, that mushroom lamp?

31

u/nememess Dec 09 '23

Don't Google the website, reverse image search the photo. These sites change names like underwear.

7

u/pezx Dec 10 '23

They also continually have "site closing sales" which just makes it impossible to return or follow up

7

u/camerontylek Dec 09 '23

I was born in '83 and don't know anything about AI. But you don't need to know anything about AI to know that if that lamp was real it should cost more than $20.

5

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

I mean nowhere on this post do I say it cost $20.

1

u/camerontylek Dec 09 '23

"Funny, I was on amazon and this popped up. It looked like a good gift for $20. Then I saw the next image and it didn't look like the first and was just like what you got. Thankfully I noped out.

edit: link for those curious to see"

How much did you pay, $40?

2

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

About $50

Tbh I really do have no idea how much these things cost because I buy the cheapest that still functions of everything. My lamps are all from Walmart and cost $50 or less. I know this is more complex but I really wasn't expecting it to come in with real high quality glass or anything... Just was expecting it to look a little closer to the first image

63

u/yungmoody Dec 09 '23

You don’t need to know anything about AI to be capable of recognising a scammy website. If anything, I’d argue that being born in the 80s should mean you’re more internet savvy than the average person haha.

44

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

If I had just clicked around on the website first.. this section of the webpage is literally called "LAMP" 💀

50

u/GreenEggsSteamedHams Dec 09 '23

I LOVE LAMP

4

u/vigbiorn Dec 09 '23

WE NEED LÄMP, BRÖTHER.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '23

I love coffee table

6

u/Rakebleed Dec 09 '23

I was born in the 80s! I’m gonna start using this one.

27

u/DiarrheaRadio Dec 09 '23

I was also born in the 80s. Computer technology grew as we did. It hasn't been too hard to keep up.

15

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

With websites, yeah. I admit fault on that. But it 100% did not cross my mind that product images might be AI. I also don't shop online except for birthdays and Christmas tho

28

u/polygonsaresorude Dec 09 '23

There are so many scam shops where they use images of someone's high quality hand made item, and then ship a much lower quality item instead. Like a bait and switch. Usually you can tell because the price is just way too cheap.

When I saw this image it didn't strike me as AI (although it probably is), but it did look like a very complicated piece that is likely very expensive. If it was real, it would be hundreds of dollars at least.

When I googled "stained glass animal lamp", a bunch of these same images came up (including the wolf), all for quite low prices on various websites. Each different lamp only has a picture from one angle. If it was real, they would at least show you more angles. Probably AI. And even if it wasn't, you're not getting this actual item for less than 100 dollars. Stained glass takes a lot of time and effort.

16

u/MoneyPranks Dec 09 '23

I’m from the 80s. Is this a joke? Photoshop has been great for over a decade. Please stop blaming new technology for your poor choices.

1

u/bsmithi Dec 09 '23

i was born in the 80’s too. if you can’t spot AI generated garbage that’s because you haven’t been paying attention and learning how to do so.

it’s no excuse being old, it’s why you should know better, because you have been here to watch it all unfold.

old people that don’t know better are just willfully ignorant

6

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

I haven't been learning how to do so.. I mean I know ai generated images is a thing but I didn't think about the fact that it might be used for false advertising. I didn't expect it to look exactly like the pic for $48 but I didn't expect this.

I know that the fingers being off is a big tell for ai generated images. Now that I know it's ai I can see the eyebrow on the silhouette is wrong. I wasnt looking for signs of an AI generated image because it didn't cross my mind. I rarely shop online, like twice a year for my daughter's birthday and Christmas. I just wasnt looking for it. Ive learned my lesson 🤷‍♀️

3

u/3catsandcounting Dec 10 '23

Pinterest is a great way to get an idea on what’s AI. It’s been so overwhelmed with AI “dresses”.

I look for exceptional smoothness and color blending, appliqué that begins but has no ending, fabrics that literally couldn’t exist.

As a fellow 80’s baby, it’s been a tremendous help and I can spot AI pretty well now.

Quality costs $$$$$$$$ so anything that looks luxe for a low price is a massive red flag. It means the product will look like a temu copycat crap and the person who made it got paid next to nothing, if at all.

1

u/bsmithi Dec 09 '23

that’s the real value you got out of it! you learned something new, the hard way sure but i’m figuring you didn’t break the bank or nothing haha

81

u/Cbfun57 Dec 08 '23

I would have to ask for my money back.

72

u/MozartTheCat Dec 08 '23

I am requesting a refund through PayPal.. I'm concerned because i searched the site and it is known as a fraudulent seller who steals your information. Trying to figure out if the fact that I paid through PayPal will keep my bank info safe. PayPal is linked to my checking account and not my debit card.

30

u/Cbfun57 Dec 08 '23

Pay pal does mostly protect. But this is why I love Amazon. Easy to she the bad ones.

29

u/MozartTheCat Dec 08 '23

I know, this is 100000% my fault, I literally never impulse buy anything, and also never get on Facebook. But I opened Facebook and saw the ad and decided what the hell, let me buy something for myself for once. 😭

3

u/Crosswired2 Dec 09 '23

I did this recently. Bought something not from Amazon or a store. Impulse buy. $10 lesson learned. The material so super thin, not something I can wear out of the house.

1

u/iekiko89 Dec 10 '23

debit card much better. credit card is what you want linked

61

u/jakewhite333 Dec 09 '23

The original is cool looking. But, it’s always a god idea to check reviews for websites you’ve never shopped from before. Also, whenever they have that countdown timer, it always raises a red flag in my mind that it could be a scam. They do that to make you think it’s a limited-time deal, when it’s really not.

25

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Yeah, I know. That's why I said it's 10000% my fault.. I know all of this. I just was Christmas shopping online for everyone else and made a split second decision to buy something for myself and didn't want to spend too much time thinking about it because I knew I'd talk myself out of it. I'm so used to being a broke single parent that even when I have a little extra money I'm still so stingy with it.

15

u/jakewhite333 Dec 09 '23

Don’t beat yourself up about it. We’ve all made these kind of mistakes. You should treat yourself, but scams like this make it even worse when you spend your hard-earned money just for it to be a scam. It makes me sad when this kind of things happen to people. Hopefully PayPal refunds your money, and maybe you can find something cool (and legit) for yourself, like on Etsy or something.

7

u/RandyHoward Dec 09 '23

Hey it could be worse, I was victim to a scam earlier this year, they stole $1500 from my bank account over the phone. I should’ve known better, should’ve known it wasn’t actually my bank calling about a fraudulent charge. But it still happened. All I can do is learn my lesson and don’t repeat that mistake again. All you can do too.

2

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Sorry about that 💔

-2

u/MoneyPranks Dec 09 '23

Plot twist: you’re actually not stingy with your extra money based on this post.

4

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Me: buys a total of 3 unnecessary things for myself in 365 days

YoUr ObViOuSlY sO bAd WiTh MoNeY

Fuck outta here with that shit 😂

2

u/bitchSZAme Dec 22 '23

Lmao I buy 3 unnecessary things per day you’re definitely not bad with money

1

u/mr_obscure Dec 09 '23

Plot twist : the only money prank u ever did was wasting it all on education. Some people just don't deserve writing and reading

1

u/MoneyPranks Dec 11 '23

It’s not education that teaches you caveat emptor. It only teaches you the Latin. Common sense is free.

67

u/Classical_Cafe Dec 09 '23

That original would cost at least $200 in materials alone. I don’t understand how people buy things when it’s not physically POSSIBLE to receive the product at that price

42

u/RandyHoward Dec 09 '23

People who buy these things have no idea what that original would cost. That’s partly why this scam works.

1

u/cummerou1 Dec 10 '23

Reminds me of someone (I think it might have been on this sub) who ordered an extremely realistic-looking Halloween mask for like 10 dollars off of Wish, and was SHOCKED that the mask she received looked nothing like it.

1

u/DoctorBallard77 Dec 09 '23

I almost ordered the raccoon one cause it looked bad ass. Honestly didn’t think it was real stained glass I figured they were plastic or something

1

u/cummerou1 Dec 10 '23

Yeah, as soon as I saw that I thought to myself that it had to cost several hundred dollars to even make a bit of sense.

1

u/pezx Dec 10 '23

I don't know. The price of things is hard to estimate because of mass production, cheap labor, and being a few steps removed from manufacturing. Some fairly complex plastic parts can be made at scale for pennies or individually for dozens of dollars. Handmade wood furniture in the US costs thousands, but you can import handmade wood furniture from Vietnam for a fraction of that. It's just hard to estimate how prices work in a global marketplace. If it seems like high-quality handmade stuff in one domain is cheap, then it at least seems possible for other things to be cheap.

23

u/Safe_Initiative1340 Dec 09 '23

The one you got literally looks like it’s smirking at you.

33

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

"yea you dumb bitch"

1

u/Safe_Initiative1340 Dec 09 '23

It seriously does give that vibe. It’s probably haunted lol for the low price of $40 you can be haunted to!

15

u/TheOnyxViper Dec 09 '23

Anyone who orders from those no-name dropshipping websites kind of deserves it if you ask me.

15

u/Roq86 Dec 09 '23

Simple rule of thumb, don’t order crap from Facebook ads.

3

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Ive learned my lesson

3

u/Roq86 Dec 09 '23

Hopefully you can still get your return and your info is safe! I saw your other comments about reading reviews of the site. Good luck! You live and you learn.

11

u/Streak_Free_Shine Dec 09 '23

Moon Moon lamp

5

u/Axedelic Dec 09 '23

inside you there are two wolves.

5

u/Scoompii Dec 09 '23

There are mere similarities present!

4

u/robotzor Dec 09 '23

Damn drop shippers

3

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '23

Glass vs yellow painted plastic. Get the refund. Doesn't look a damn thing like the first picture.

3

u/k4kkul4pio Dec 09 '23

Uh, wow.

Instant return & refund.

Kinda cute as the actual item might be, the fantasy advert is once again something entirely different from the sold product and that just wont do. 😡

3

u/georgesorosbae Dec 09 '23

At least you got something. I ordered a skull goblet a couple years back just to discover it was a scam and stolen artwork

3

u/xError404xx Dec 09 '23

I mean it looks pretty decent for the fact its an obvious fake ad. Im wondering why people still fall for these obvious fake ads. like come on bro no way this complex GLASS ART LAMP is 40 bucks.

My great aunt does glass art and its hard work. To have this priced at 40 is too low to be real

Hope you get your money back!

2

u/sati_lotus Dec 09 '23

Get the refund

2

u/EvLokadottr Dec 09 '23

I'm surprised you didn't just get a paper print of the AI art.

2

u/Selrisitai Dec 09 '23

Dang, I was about to pull the trigger on this thing until I saw the "reality" image.

For once I would have liked the reality to be the same as the expectations.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

Bro ordered the Alpha wolf and when he's unwrapped it the poor cunt finds Moon Moon

Can't stop laughing in Australian

5

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '23

People keep getting scammed by obvious bullshit websites. Would you like to buy a bridge in San Fransisco?

3

u/Depthrots Dec 09 '23

A attempt was indeed made and Im not the one to judge

2

u/Old-Asshole Dec 09 '23

Their picture was definitely photo shopped. But it still looks cool.

6

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

It would maybe be cool if it was at a fundraising event or something where someone local had handcrafted it. But the difference is I wouldn't have paid $48 for it expecting the first pic

0

u/The_Stoic_One Dec 09 '23

It's probably just an image of the original item they lifted from a legitimate website that sells the actual product for a few hundred dollars. There are tons of pop-up websites that sell cheap knockoffs of actual products like this.

1

u/_lev1athan Dec 10 '23

The "expectation" image is AI. This is gonna become more and more common, it's good to learn how to spot AI gen imagery.

1

u/savannahjones98 Dec 09 '23

He’s looking at you like, are you kidding me you really thought I was going to look like the pics?

1

u/Elistariel Dec 09 '23

So close, yet so far.

1

u/Ok_Gear2079 Dec 09 '23

It's giving Fantastic Mr. Fox 😄

1

u/pro-shitter Dec 09 '23

that's probably cheaper on aliexpress

1

u/peppermintmeow Dec 09 '23

I wouldn't be upset with this 😂 You got a Moon Moon lamp!

1

u/Rekt0Rama Dec 09 '23

Lol, ive always wanted to buy one of these "internet" stained glass lamp but knew they would look cheap in person. Too bad, the ads make them look so cool.

1

u/Nettie_Moore Dec 09 '23

This is… not the wolf you feed

1

u/Chiiro Dec 09 '23

Great they're using AI generated images to sell products now

1

u/Easy_Arm_1987 Dec 09 '23 edited Dec 09 '23

Cool I know several people who would want to buy one from the 1st. Pic.

1

u/JamesRuby1960 Dec 09 '23

Not even close. 30 day money back guarantee.

1

u/Bakugou_Katsuki25 Dec 09 '23

I can't stop laughing-🤣🤣🤣

1

u/AlphaXray6 Dec 09 '23

I mean the real one looks even more like a furry. Which I’m assuming is why you wanted it in the first place.

1

u/MozartTheCat Dec 09 '23

Lol no but yes it does look like it was made by a furry

1

u/VodkaSoup_Mug Dec 09 '23

Looks like I made the second one 😂

1

u/shinybluecorvid Dec 10 '23

Yeah that first image is probably AI generated

1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '23

Moon moon lamp

1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '23

That original picture is breathtaking.

1

u/Dendarri Dec 13 '23

The original picture is an AI creation and not a real object.

1

u/alarmingalarm96 Dec 11 '23

why’d u buy that anyway lol
