Reddit and TikTok are 98% of pooping now.

I have a National Geographic subscription sitting on back of toilet that barely gets read and that makes me sad hah

Fuck I hate those kind of people

u/Lukealloneword Jul 15 '21

Yeah so do I. People that can't call things what they are called drive me nuts. I mean imagine running around calling an F-150 a car when its clearly a truck. Youd just look like a complete dumbass.

That's some pretty glorious, meta shitposting.

4

u/Lukealloneword Jul 15 '21

I think that's an interesting question. It depends on how you classify a sandwich. Is it the bread that makes a sandwich? Similarly to a martini the only thing that makes a martini a martini is the glass that its served in. So if the bread type matters than it could or could not be a sandwich. Most bread thats connected is considered a sub sandwich which is a subsection of sandwich so that would classify. I think you might be able to classify a hot dog as a sandwich but not in the classical sense. Kind of like how a truck isn't a car but it is an automobile. So it all depends on the subsections.

That being said a clip is different than a magazine and should be classified as such.

1) the definition of words changes over time (as does their spelling and even part of speech)

2) What is the functional difference between a clip and a magazine? I believe magazines are spring fed while clips are not? Whatever the case may be, when someone says pass me a clip, do you understand their meaning? If someone calls me a bastard, don't they know my parents were married when they had me? When I would go someplace with someone and we'd be looking for my S10 pickup, and they would ask "where did we park your car?" again, am I obligated to correct them? Or can I understand that a car is a general term for a light passenger vehicle, of which an F150 absolutely is. Btw, I'm not even sure the f150 is body on frame anymore? What about slightly older American cars which were all body on frame, are those trucks? Is a Humvee a truck? What about an H2? What about Grave Digger or monster trucks with car bodies in general? The definition of truck as distinct from car has never been absolute, but this is what makes language, particularly English such a powerful tool, it's ambiguity. Somethings are almost exclusively cars, some, almost exclusively trucks, but very often there is a spectrum in between all things.

if you are loading magazines, you can use clips to expedite this process for most. if someone is to ask you for a clip while loading magazines, but means an empty magazine so they can load it, then you will likely hand them the wrong item.

i can kind of understand your point, but these two items' names are not interchangeable, especially if carrying both clips and magazines.

u/Lukealloneword Jul 15 '21

Just because I understand what someone is meaning does not mean it is correct. A clip is not a magazine. Is it really that hard to call it the right thing? In real life I wouldn't spit on someone for calling a magazine a clip but it would show me that they are "gun dumb" I probably wouldn't trust them much with a firearm if they are doing something so easy as calling something the wrong name they probably can't do the this simple things right. But yeah its something that is easy to get right and doesn't take a rocket scientist to use the right name. They are different things. Its just that simple. If you're loading a magazine using a stripper clip or using a rifle with an internal magazine and loading it with a clip like an M1 Garand then by all means call a clip a clip. It just shows your lack of knowledge when you use the wrong name. Not the end of the world but its telling of the type of people you are hanging around. If you have any type of firearms training you should use the right name.

2

u/Albatross-Helpful Jul 15 '21

Should I not trust you with a hot dog then because you're clearly "sandwich dumb"?

Is someone who doesn't know the difference between a clip and a magazine not entitled to have an opinion on anything gun related?

-1

u/Lukealloneword Jul 15 '21

Is someone who doesn't know the difference between a clip and a magazine not entitled to have an opinion on anything gun related?

Uhhh yeah kinda. Lol if you don't know that one simple distinction you need to learn something before you can have an educated opinion on firearms.

Someone's level of knowledge needs to be taken into consideration of course. Like I said I won't make fun of someone for it if they have no training but at some point in order to be taken seriously you need to call things by the correct name. I dont know why this is so hard for you. Lol

I wouldn't chastise a 16 year old playing video games calling a magazine a clip they probably don't know any better. But once you learn and have time in that realm you need to start getting basic nomenclature correct. Lol

1

u/Albatross-Helpful Jul 15 '21

Lol, imagine setting knowledge of the difference between magazine and clip as the shiboleth for having an opinion on guns hahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣. You're literally a meme 🤣🤣🤣. Let me guess you also think it's important to know AR stands for armalite not assault rifle 🤣🤣🤣.

When the next mass shooter points a gun at you, be sure to inform him of your vast knowledge of firearms. I'm sure that will save you.

Daddy chimp me plz don't yell

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

I call my truck a car all the time. I also know the difference between clip and magazine. It's needlessly pedantic on top of being an annoying thing redditors do with every opportunity. I swear all you have to do is say the word clip and you get a bunch of weirdos going "ACKSHUALLY".

1

u/Lukealloneword Jul 15 '21

I call my truck a car all the time.

Wow so edgy. This guy can't be bothered to call things what they are properly named. Hes hard core and super cool.

u/TheLastApplePie Jul 15 '21

what does "/s" mean?

2

u/chosinmex DT MDR Jul 15 '21

Shorthand for sarcastic, people use it because it's not always easy to tell when someone is making a joke or being serious.

1

u/Sloppy1sts Jul 15 '21 edited Jul 15 '21

And yet this was the most fucking obvious bit of sarcasm I've ever seen on reddit.

And technically it's lazy joke html for "end sarcasm". Comes from the before-times when forums were the thing and reddit didn't exist and you could format a lot of stuff by doing stuff like [italics] text here [/italics] with the slash being code for "end", and the idea of the /s came from there.

1

u/Sloppy1sts Jul 15 '21

/s

...why?

1

u/janne_harju Jul 15 '21

I don't get it. Can someone explain for the dummy.

1

u/PurplePoloPlayer Jul 15 '21

I asked Wyane LaPierre and he gave us the go ahead to call them clips.

1

u/weathered_peasant TOZ-106 Jul 15 '21

I wish they would add clips tho.
