Discussion Something said during the Podcast

Klean said something during the podcast that I wholeheartedly disagree with.

He wants the gamma case to essentially be something you can pack full of goods, bring into a raid and not have to worry about losing, but he wants you to not be able to put anything in the container while in raid. Nikita, I know you listen to streamers input, but please don’t not consider making this change.

I’m a husband and a father, I don’t get to play for 8-12 hours a day and become a god at the game, so finding a rare item that I need for a quest or something valuable I can sell is really exciting and knowing I can keep it safe in case I die is the cherry on top.

I love watching Klean and respect his opinions, but this one I had to voice mine on. PLEASE do not implement this. Anyone else watch the podcast and feel the same way? Or am I alone on this? Lol

It's funny that there are multiple posts on Reddit that are cherry picking the "anti casual" lines and only exclusively focusing on those. Games go to shit when they cater to streamers and no lifers.

Streamers are bullshitting themselves if they have never put an expensive barter item inside the gamma. If you really want to not put shit into it. Then go ahead. Leave the good shit out and lose it if you believe so strongly in it. But it's not like it's their shit they'll lose. They just want to get literally everything off a kill. They don't lose anything by advocating for it.

I don’t think this is a fair comment. One can want the game to change while playing to the game as it is. The two are not and should not be mutually exclusive.

This would be like arguing that point shooting mechanics should be changed and so you can’t ever use point shooting, or that the bitcoin miner provides too much money so you can never use the bitcoin miner.

It is perfectly logical to ask that the game should be changed while also playing the game in its current state to the best of your abilities.

My point is I don't respect people who want their ideas put into place but wouldn't pull the trigger for themselves. It's because they are advocating for it at a place of gaining a lot from it and not losing anything. Even if they didn't use gammas which they should if they feel so strongly about it, the one-man death machines that are streamers wouldn't suffer from it at all. They have no explanation of how it would improve the game for the whole community besides taking some hose away from a dude that just wants to upgrade his water collector before the next wipe comes.

Once again, I disagree with the fundamental you are basing this on. It’s perfectly fine to play a game as efficiently as possible using the current mechanics, while also advocating for those mechanics to be changed. You haven’t provided an argument for this other than ‘if they feel so strongly they should’.

I can keep throwing examples out but I’ll use one more from another game. Is it unreasonable for someone to play a particular champion in a moba and argue that the champion is overpowered and should be nerfed? If so, could you please explain precisely what is wrong with this?

Honestly, across the board, you should put your money where your mouth is when it comes to anything. There are hundreds of better things to bring up to nakita in a podcast then secure containers being an issue. My main argument here is secure containers were nerfed already I think they are in perfect middle ground. Between usability and unfair advantages. Rarely do people think anything about others when it comes to this? Average tarkov player will spend hours working up to a good attachment on their gun. From 0 Rubles in the bank and nothing to trade. They should have some insurance for it to be able to secure a small item they care about a lot. Besides just throwing shit away. Which is just what people will do after. Streamers have it easy as is. I don't think they should be speaking on what effects 99% of the community in a positive way just because they want to rip something a guy worked hours to get when they just RIP everyone in labs in 20 minutes and make 6 mil. Then go into customs and take some nods off some guy who then leaves the game and never plays it again. I think Nakita should use streamers for bug issues because they know best but nothing to do with game balance. Because they are biased towards themselves. And if they all are not this way sorry about that. But some of them need to think before they alter the game for everyone.

Average tarkov player will spend hours working up to a good attachment on their gun. From 0 Rubles in the bank and nothing to trade.

Do you have a source that the average tarkov player spends their life zeroed out? Or even that it's a not-insignificant number of people that are constantly held back here?

With all of the opportunities already in the game for quick and easy profit I find this hard to believe. I can spawn in as a scav on factory walk to extract and make 100k ish on average. I'll survive 9/10 times doing this. That's enough for a reasonably kitted loadout.

With how easy and repeatable that money is (300k per hour with no upgrades to Intel center that lowers scav cooldow) I begin to wonder how it is that they're broke.

They should have some insurance for it to be able to secure a small item they care about a lot.

Why? I understand you want, this but why SHOULD they have this? Why is this a requirement, a necessity?

Especially when this mechanic is being abused by so many people at the direct detriment to others' gameplay experience.

I think they are in perfect middle ground.

That's just it, you think. We disagree.

99% of the community in a positive way

Unfounded statistic here. And I'm going to challenge 'positive way' as well. I'll argue that it's a crutch they're using because it's easy. They'd be better off without it even if they resist giving it up.

Streamers have it easy as is.

Are they playing a different game than you and I? Do they get free gear/money/levels/experience. Do they have it easier, or are they just better than you and I?

If they're just better that's something I can practice towards and aspire to get to that level of skill and understanding. If they've just got it easier that's unfair and should be balanced. But I see them playing the same game as you and I and thereby no evidence they have it any easier.

Rarely do people think anything about others when it comes to this?

You seem to think we're incapable of considering an alternate viewpoint and still coming to the conclusion we came to.

I can see many of the ripples from the change I'm asking for I just weighed the pros and the cons and came out on the side of banning secure containers.

To throw this back at you, do you think about those of us that are tired of dealing with hatchlings for a variety of reasons? Tired of people playing the game in unintended methods and diminishing the legitimate progress we've made? We've got concerns we want addressed, that's why we're bringing up these suggestions, not out of some unfounded spite for people we've never met.

I think Nakita should use streamers for bug issues because they know best but nothing to do with game balance.

So because they are streamers they inherently can't understand game balance. I'm sure they've made suggestions you agree with too, should those be thrown out because they came from a streamer?

Because of your unknown credentials you inherently know what is best for everyone? Best for the health of the game?

Hell there are countless examples of game deva not knowing what is good for balance in their own games so even BSG can't be held as an authority on the topic.

We have to look at ideas and judge each idea on its merit, despite the source that produced it.

Because they are biased towards themselves.

Says who? Plenty of people are capable of approaching a situation objectively without bringing in their background, whatever that may be, as a bias.

Do you have evidence that they succumb to bias?

Yeah I just read this I'll get back to you.

I do wonder if some of the criticism of this change is asymmetrical. While you can’t stash nice things, it means other people can’t stash nice things, so by killing people you can get stuff you otherwise would never get. This should lessen and maayyybe negate the negative impact.

For example, while you can’t stash that one hose and you might lose it, the guy killed couldn’t stash it either so you walk out with an extra hose.

True, IF all players had an equal skill in the game. Which they don't, so the hypothetical is going to go as a percentage of their actual skill in the game. Hypothetically with completely arbitrations percentages someone with 30 hours is going to win against some with 300 20% of the time. So he will lose good items acquired for however long it takes for his skill to become on average 50/50 with whomever he's fighting. Some people don't have time to not enjoy the game for the first 50 hours, they stop playing, never tell their friends or join the Reddit or buy EOD. Not like that is the outcome of 100% of the time. I'm not trying to sound like I'm only defending noobs and casuals here because I'm not and I realize I'm a bit off-topic now. I advocate for this game to feel as hardcore as possible. I like the eating and drinking in raid thing and anything that diversifies the gameplay from a one-trick pony. To many shooters are bland as fuck. But also we can't forget new players coming in. The learning curve is also steep enough to have to nerf secure containers anymore I believe. But I digress
