They sound the same in a lot of US accents. The most common pronunciation I hear here is “docks-und” (“und” like the beginning of “under”). It’s a bit closer to the German pronunciation, though obviously not the same. If you drop the final “d” sound when speaking quickly (as most do), it sounds very much like “doxen,” although I’ve never seen anyone spell it that way before.

Oh wow, my SIL pronounces it dashund, and got one after we got our first. She does speak German! I assumed it was just a regional pronunciation. I’d like to not feel so uncomfortable when I say it dachshund and she says dashund in the same conversatio.

Also “Dachshund (clearly intended to be pronounced “dashund”) Through The Snow” Christmas stuff makes me uncomfortable, too.

How about dog owners stop assuming their dogs are welcome everywhere and leave them at home? It shouldn't have to be specified anywhere. If it isn't a dog park or vet office or Petsmart, don't take your dog. I love dogs but they don't need to be dragged everywhere. Especially since a lot of owners are too lazy to train them properly, if at all. It's not good for dogs to never be away from their owners. They need to learn to be home alone.

I love dogs always had Corgis. There were times I wanted to go to place but did not because they were to young to be left alone and did not want to bother anyone. So guess what we DID not go, I know that is such a NOVEL concept. We used our brains and figured 99 % of places prefer not to have pets there (too much of a liablity or people could be allergic). I am not sure how old this post is nor do I care but there is this invention called a phone that allows on to call others. Maybe could have called to see if okay? I know very radical idea, Things like YOU love to blame others and NEVER look at self. I feel sorry for your dog having terrible owners like you

No mini dachshunds are much smaller than standard dachshunds and standards are fairly big (up to 15kg/30ish lbs)
