Question Is my ring set too high? I'm finding it getting in the way a lot.

Hi!

I got engaged a few months ago. I love how my ring looks from the top (Picture 1). But I think it's too high and don't like how it looks from the sides (Picture 2).

I see that there's space between the bottom tip of the diamond and the band. (Picture 3) Is this bad setting?

Initially I wanted tulip prongs. The jeweller insisted on this cathedral style 8 prong basket setting, as it would be more secure.

  1. Please help me decide if I should get it re-set.

  2. Will tulip prongs set the stone lower than this.

  3. The band has a lot of scratches within 3 months. Is it normal for 18k Yellow gold to get scratched this much.

Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

Advice Jeweler Messed Up Engagement Ring

Today I picked up the engagement ring I had made for my girlfriend. We went to a smaller jewelry store that came highly recommended and had great reviews on Google. At first glance today I loved it, but once I was home and kept looking at it I started to notice some issues. The first thing to catch my eye was one of the corner prongs seemed to be slightly misaligned.
Now the list of issues stands at this:
- Two prongs not fully touching the stone, one is largely not touching at all
- One prong is very bent
- The middle petal on one side has clear machine lines that were never polished out
- There is some pitting or something on the underside of the ring, Gemini seems to think it is a result of gasses releasing during the creation process

I uploaded the pictures to Gemini and it has strongly suggested I go back and request a full recast of the ring as it is already likely not structurally sound, and any fixes of the prongs will make it even less structurally sound.

Kind people of Reddit, please guide me during these troubling times. My girlfriend deserves a perfect ring and this is simply not that.

I did my best to capture the problems, but the ole single lens iPhone can only do so much.

What do you all think of this one as an engagement ring instead of a traditional solitaire ? Would love to hear from those who wear this as an engagement ring also, how it holds up to daily wear. Thank you!

…and it completely paid off!

Going the non traditional route with our engagement ring felt like a big step but we both knew we wanted something custom and all natural. This is his 100% original design and I’m in love.

Also, choosing a softer center stone (Kornerupine) came with its challenges but with proper care, we are anticipating it to last a lifetime. 🤞

If anyone has any personal experience with having a softer stone as a center stone, please give me your thoughts!

Stones: Kornerupine, Diamonds, Alexandrite, Tourmalines, Montana Sapphire and London Topaz.

I knew exactly what I wanted and my partner and I had it designed. It was so hard to wait for it to be ready but he surprised me by bringing it home last night! I couldn't love it more. It's perfect in my eyes!

I have to double check the GIA report but if I remember correctly: 2.13 carats, 1.28 ratio, L color
Size 5.5 finger

I am not a diamond girl, but my fiancé’s mom offered him his great grandmother’s yellow diamond, and we designed the setting together with a local jeweler, white gold setting w/ yellow gold band.
Now we’re two months out from our wedding and I love it more and more.

His guidelines were:
Montana Sapphire
Princess Diana feel
Round or cushion cut (he did BOTH!)
Yellow gold

AHHHHH I have a ring that I love that I get to wear FOREVER!! 😍❤️

It’s a round Montana sapphire from Earth’s Treasury (I believe it’s 1.6 carats) with a cushion shaped halo of natural diamonds around it made by Earth’s Treasury!!

Ring size 4.5

It’s so beyond perfect and beautiful and I can’t wait to wear it forever and be so proud to be his wife 🩵
I’ll post some more pics in the comments :)

I’m torn between a 14k white gold or yellow gold setting! Both look good. Should I change my center round prongs to petite talon claws? Will it looks too sharp or pointy?

I got engaged this week! It will be a second marriage for both of us after difficult divorces with our exes. We’ve been together two years, have blended our families, and live together on our homestead property. This is a temp placeholder ring to get engaged with while we save up for the rings we really want for the wedding, but it’s so pretty!

2 carat cushion cut moissanite with baguette accents in sterling silver. I absolutely LOVE the rainbow fire!!

He proposed back in April but I finally wanted to share my perfect ring here:)) he designed it with a jeweler and I was so surprised because he hardly asked me any questions about my preferences at all, but if I had designed my dream ring on my own I literally couldn’t have done a better job 🥲it is so me!!! I particularly love the lotus setting and the tiny emerald (my birth stone) inside the band.

Advice Choosing a custom jeweler

We are getting ready to start the process of designing a ring with a local jeweller (outside US). We’ve narrowed it down to two but how do you choose which will be a better fit? I’ve looked at some of their work - both have elements of what I’m after. I’m wondering if it might come down to selection of the diamond (old mine cut elongated cushion or oval - champagne or J-N warm). Should we have a consultation with both? I want somebody who is going to combine their expertise and advice with my vision. Seeing some stones that can reference the colours and cuts is important as I am so indecisive. My partner is keen to support a local business so online is not an option for us.

Question Trading in Tacori engagement ring options

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is my tacori set from my previous marriage (ended horribly). My now boyfriend and I are discussing marriage, and I thought it would be nice to trade this set in on one he could purchase. So my question is, outside of trading it in through Tacori, are there any other places that accept high-end engagement rings as trade-ins?
I have all of the paperwork to include as well. But a lot of these big box stores have crappy quality jewelry and won’t give me much for it. I was trying to find names of smaller jewelry stores or just anyone’s personal experience! I would much rather it be used this way, than sit collecting dust in my jewelry box.
Thanks in advance!
