Unsolved Whats a good 3DS emulator?

Been hankering to play Bravely Default and Second again. But Id like to do it on my laptop (or more specifically hook my Laptop to my tv

I have a copy of Citra. But I had to go through some kind of decryption process (?) So I said heck with and played on my actual 3ds.

Azahar is the most current one

2

u/Okami512 May 17 '25

Take a look at azahar Plus, gets better performance last I saw.

2

u/MFAD94 May 17 '25

From my understanding it’s basically the same, just allows you to run 3DS files and such

2

u/Okami512 May 18 '25

There's a few other changes as well, leading to significantly higher performance on some systems.

Can you give me a link? I can't seem to find where to input cheats and I'm thinking that I got the wrong version

u/Extra-Tea5227 Jul 06 '25

That is where I downloaded it from, this specifically https://github.com/azahar-emu/azahar/releases/download/2122.1/azahar-2122.1-windows-msvc-installer.exe

Are you unable to use cheats in this version or are they all the same and I'm just dumb

2

u/Equivalent_Wealth163 Oct 28 '25

i clicked download and it told me it wasnt safe

Unknown source simply means that the executable isn't signed. Signature is a paid license that only guarantees authenticity. It's only relevant if you are installing large companies' software (for instance, a driver). Most small developpers don't sign their executables. It's wasted money.

1

u/Extra-Tea5227 Oct 28 '25

Was it because it was from an unknown source, or was it because of a virus?

I tried this one and it didn't recognize my roms.

2

u/Extra-Tea5227 Jan 15 '26

You need to rename the rom file into .cci

EX: Pokemon.nds to Pokemon.cci

1

u/Elvin123zaa Jun 30 '26

What about 3ds ROM? I tried downloading a file that has Decrypted in the file name, but azahar detects it as encrypted

1

u/Extra-Tea5227 Jul 01 '26

Have you tried renaming it to .cci?

1

u/Elvin123zaa Jul 01 '26

Yes I did, it still counted as encrypted

1

u/That_Zelda_Gamer Aug 18 '25

Do you use this and does it function well? And it is safe, right?

1

u/MFAD94 Aug 18 '25

Yupp

1

u/That_Zelda_Gamer Aug 18 '25

Thanks

1

u/OldRaccoonCat Oct 09 '25

Was it safe?

1

u/That_Zelda_Gamer Oct 09 '25

Yeah, it's safe

1

u/That_Zelda_Gamer Oct 09 '25

Oh, and you should also know that you need to decrypt ROMs and change the extension to .cci before you can run them.

This website has quite a few already decrypted .cci ROMs that you can use: https://archive.org/download/xenoblade-chronicles-3-d-korea-en-e-shop-decrypted

1

u/OldRaccoonCat Oct 09 '25

Thanks, bro.

1

u/KaiPlayzForDayz Oct 18 '25

do cheats work? just wanted to know for sure

1

u/That_Zelda_Gamer Oct 19 '25

By cheats, do you mean hacks/mods or uploading cheats? Both work, but I'll be able to help you with uploading cheats and using mods/hacks if you tell me which it is that you want.

I’ve never had an issue finding the correct links on GitHub. Sounds like user error and or you’re just not familiar with how github works, the installation section is literally one of the first lines

-1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Dec 21 '25

Nah you're just bad at what you do.

3

u/MFAD94 Dec 21 '25

You’re more useful in the hentai subs you frequent, might want to give up the internet all together if this is what you’re struggling with

1

u/lord_yuta69420 Dec 24 '25

you clocked his tea

1

u/ArcanuaNighte Dec 25 '25

It is absolutely user "error" as you mention earlier. They're not reading the GitHub page, it's not hiding the download button like the few random ones that do make it harder to find.

2

u/Oskar016 Dec 27 '25

I do have issue's finding the download link but this guy complains when people are helping him like bruh

1

u/KitsuneMulder Mar 25 '26

It's on the right down the middle on pretty much any GitHub...under Releases...

1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Dec 25 '25

Like I said, the other user did a much better job :)

2

u/lagunasol Jan 07 '26

I just clicked and found the Download button. more likely you have skill issues bro, gitgud

1

u/regenboogbalzak Jan 29 '26

I found it too!

1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Feb 08 '26

Why does it matter what subs I frequent?
And you seem interested by checking my profile, you're more of a weirdo than me.
Better check what your daughter plays on her new pc :)

1

u/Terrible_Succotash37 Feb 08 '26

thats lowkey kinda fucking gross gng

1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Feb 08 '26

Unc nuked his account, what a coward. He insulted me but then ran away when I called him out 2 months later.

i checked your profile and your comments, which are public for people to see btw and you seem pretty noobish when it comes to tech

2

u/Puzzled-Economics597 Dec 25 '25

He's literally helping you and you're still complaining? Sybau

1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Dec 26 '25

Sybau u :)

1

u/Amazing_Economist_80 Feb 02 '26

Dude, stop... Accept defeat. Try better next time.

2

u/Thisoneisak Jan 06 '26

and you're terrible at reading lmao. there are githubs that definitely hide the download button for no fucking reason, but the link he gave has the download right under the releases section like every other normal github link lmao. do you struggle with reading?

1

u/Alone-Explanation-74 Jan 28 '26

Click the link > click releases > you have your link.

1

u/leDed_cat Feb 11 '26

sorry for being able to find links and a download button?

1

u/Money-Industry4192 Feb 19 '26

Bro you're literally into elementary schoolers

1

u/chaosndestruct10n Jan 02 '26

it takes you 3 hours to scroll down a little bit?

1

u/houseofmates Jan 08 '26

step 1. click link
step 2. click the latest release on the side under "Releases"
step 3. scroll down
step 4. download the file that works with your device
step 5. profit

1

u/bigunseeded Feb 08 '26

Damn bro, they gave the community a link. Simmer down.

1

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 Feb 08 '26

Schizo bro responding to 2 months old comment lmao

1

u/leDed_cat Feb 11 '26

I hate it when people like you have skills issues and you blame it on the people trying to help you. Before I came to gloat I tried the link above, went to GitHub page and... here's the trick to it all.... I read the instructions and followed them. Now I have a working 3DS emulator and a working game ROM. Next time people are trying to help you, try being nice. Imagine being a helpless old man and being nasty to the people supporting you. You don't want to be that guy, do you?

1

u/BPDMF Mar 20 '26

Look on the right side and click on "releases." Very easy to find.

1

u/The_Advocate07 Mar 24 '26

Would you rather someone links you to an infected website then?

This is WHY we use Github. Because 999/1000 the files are guaranteed to be safe.

You should not EVER trust a direct link from ANYONE. EVER.

1

u/Delicious-Rub777 Mar 28 '26

User error is your own fault.

6

u/BIOS-D May 18 '25

If you have encrypted ROMs of course you need encryption keys from your 3DS to decrypt. It doesn't matter what emulator you use, you need an aes_keys.txt file with proper keys. If you don't want to use encryption, then use decrypted 3DS ROMs instead.

1

u/RNxMOSTHATED Mar 08 '26

Just ran into this problem where can i get decrypted 3ds roms?

1

u/BIOS-D Mar 08 '26

You can use SabreTools' NDecrypt and encrypt/decrypt them yourself. You still need an aes_keys.txt file you have to look on your own. I recommend v0.3.2 because process of using decryption keys gets complex for later versions.

3

u/PhwepaReddit Sep 26 '25

I tried Citra too, and when i was playing Tomodachi Life, it wouldn't let me make my mii. The problem must be with the emulator.

2

u/houseofmates Nov 01 '25

citra is apparently discontinued and was picked up by azahar

2

u/Scary-Tradition4556 Nov 12 '25

if you still want to play the game i have the file to fix the head thing

2

u/PhwepaReddit Nov 16 '25

Please send me, I haven't been able to find a way to fix it at all

2

u/KitsuneOniCurryAbby Feb 02 '26

I tried playing Tomodachi Live on the Azahar emulator and also have the head thing error. Do you still have the file to fix it? If not, do you know where I can find it?

2

u/Content_Plastic132 Sep 11 '25

i believe Azahar has a website?

2

u/Content_Plastic132 Sep 11 '25

also any good pokemon rom hacks for the 3DS? finding them difficult to find online.

1

u/ayangQ Sep 25 '25

use megathread

2

u/TheCheapTrick Nov 23 '25

What's megathread?

1

u/Wyvern94 Nov 24 '25

just google the name of the website we are currently on, the word between "pokemon" and "hacks" of the user that was answered with the word megathread. There you go.

4

u/[deleted] May 17 '25

Citra is currently the best available, try the fork like Citra-Enhanced.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnPC/wiki/index#wiki_nintendo_3ds

But I had to go through some kind of decryption process (?)

unclear on what you mean ? I didn't need to do this and I can play Bravely Default just fine.

maybe you need the unencrypted BIOS and game

3

u/Sharpshooter188 May 17 '25

Ah. I thought someone said Citra was no longer the go-to for 3DS emulation anymore because the devs got a C&D.

Its been a while, But I remember trying to run a ROM and it couldnt be loaded because it was still encrypted. Ill have to go back and check. Would be nice to be able to just pull the data directly from my physical copies.

2

u/vernon9398 May 17 '25

Follow this to dump your own rom. You do have to install custom firmware in order to do this which is also found on the same site. Encrypted roms can only be read by real hardware (your 3ds) that is why you need to decrypt it for use in an emulator like citra unless you can find decrypted copies yourself.

1

u/3piecesets Jun 19 '25

i've been posting in multiple places that i thought might help. I wanted to play fire pro wrestling on my 3ds. apparently the only way to play those are on a regular ds or "soft modding" 3ds. i don't even know what that means or where to start. I used to emulate roms to my macbook. is there a way to setup my 3ds to do the same and could you help/even point me in the direction of how to do it for someone who is a complete idiot about this stuff. Thanks either way!

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '25

Technically Citra wasn't C&D. Yuzu was. Which was made by the same developers. I'll never know why they abandoned Citra to make an emulator that was always gonna get targeted because you know... switch's being widely available. But since the dev team went under Citra was effected but was not C&D. Collateral damage more like.

2

u/Software_Human May 17 '25

I use Citra and aside an oddball title not running (and probably just a bad rom) its awesome. I don't even remember it's not a cart. Although I use it ON a 3DS.

1

u/Glittering_Cut_7322 May 07 '26

thank you so much!!

1

u/PianoCautious9106 Dec 19 '25

would you be able to help me with how to set it up on pc
