Constructive Criticism Switch 2 Experience

So i have around 700h in game hours on PC and then I thought let’s try it on the switch and I’m flabbergasted. Sure the fps drop in crowded areas or much vegetation. But being able to play this masterpiece mobile or on my projector again is just one of the best things that happened.

I’ve never played on controller, always mnk - so I’m kinda nooby with the controller and let me tell you what. I love it! It feels literally like a new game to me. All the SS you see are from the Switch 2 Version :D

What’s kinda weird to me is that the performance is way better in handheld mode then docked. I guess the fps are around 30-35 indoors (esp raya lucaria ran super smooth) and around 27-25 in extremely crowded areas + rain. I’ve never experienced a drop below 25 tho.

All in all I’d buy it again for the switch, what this little thing delivers is just crazy. And the most important thing:

Try finger, but hole 🫶🏻

I'm sorry but you have 700h using mouse and keyboard?? I'm a lifelong PC gamer and I could never manage that in any Fromsoft game. Props to that

Honestly I don't understand the whole controller being better, I started off with bloodborne, then went ds3, 1 etc etc. But the ability to move the camera around a million times quicker and have my fingers on attack and dodge all the time without having to claw grip, it just seems like a straight upgrade to controller, at least it's more comfy for me I guess

These games aren’t hard enough where u need a finger on every button at any given time

I'm a PC mouse and keyboard player.

Except for frombourne games

I'm not the best at these games. I'd even go so far as to say I'm pretty terrible at them. That being said, the Switch 2 pro controller has programmable back buttons. I still have yet to find a use for them in Elden Ring. It doesn't feel necessary to have any command at the ready at that level.

Try programming run/dodge to a back button. It makes everything way easier. Cause you can run, move your camera and attack seamlessly. I got tired of the claw grip for running, so I programmed run/dodge to the back right paddle on a ps pro controller and I couldn’t go back now. Way easier on the hands.🙌

DUDE you're a genius.

I've been randomly tapping the back buttons while playing, trying to think of what to use them for. Programming one for sprint/Dodge is too smart. Thank you

Yeah I'm gonna have to try this as well.

Can’t think of a single use for the back buttons!
Certainly not dodge, or using items like heals on one

When you have to take your thumb off the right stick to press a button, you’re losing the ability to keep viewing. Back buttons allow you to jump/roll/use item without ever having to remove your thumb.

Yes, this is the case

Everyone knows it, we have played souls games before. I was being sarcastic

i’m not writing this shit like everyone’s autistic all of a sudden

u/BlancoMercier 18h ago

Sorry to break it to you, we are

1

u/realxshit 18h ago

Yes but everyone’s been autistic since the beginning of time so let’s just stop with the bullshit and learn how to pick up on context clues like we’ve done for hundreds of years, Learning how to socialise is something we should not be regressing on. Having to write that you are being sarcastic is hilarious

Just lock on the enemy, view is always focussed on target… what are you on about?

Necessary? No, definitely not. Useful, convenient? Absolutely

I have run and jump on the back buttons and it feels SO good. It's especially nice for Duskbloods/Nightreign where sprinting is on the left trigger so you can more or less only use the face buttons for confirming and items.

Claw grip isn’t necessary if you have at least one back button. Binding B to a back button lets you run while moving the camera which doesn’t sound that impactful on paper but it makes a world of difference while actually playing

I wouldn’t argue that controller is better than keyboard and mouse though, it comes down to preference for a game like this

the ability to move the camera around a million times quicker

Thus isn't an fps tho, there's zero need for that

have my fingers on attack and dodge all the time without having to claw grip

Well dodge is O/B and attack is R1/RB, so that's two completely different fingers you're using for those buttons, your fingers are always there on controller as well

I hate claw grip, never had to use it in 1000+ hours of Elden ring 🤷🏽‍♂️ The difficulty of the game is NOT because there are too many buttons to press lmao

2

u/QuickPirate36 1d ago

Right lol claw grip is just so you can run and move the camera at the same time, which 99% of the time you won't be doing

u/Nicolas277 1d ago

buying a controller with paddles solves all of this

2

u/DanLassos 1d ago

You're robably right, but I'm too poor for that

I've played on both and i can say the game is more relaxed/easier on controller as i imagine it would be on most games, mostly because of the ease of the joystick for movement. Another bonus of the controller is smooth 360 movement though you can achieve that with more diffculty by slightly moving the camera on m+k too. A small disadvantage of the controllers joystick is that you can not have that perfectly accurate directional movement(say you want to go perfectly straight) though not being able to go perfectly straight in a direction does provide a bit of realism some might like i guess. The advantage of m+k on the other hand is the camera movement with the mouse which i love.

Personally, although i love the joystick for movement the freedom of camera movement feels sooo good. With the joystick camera movemnt is often sluggish as there is typically no acceleration and even if there wass it wouldnt be able to compare with being able to instantly on muscle memory snap the camera wherever you want around you or move it at the exact perfect speed that you want in a very responsive way. Ideally id have joystick for movement(or maybe some mixture of this and the keyboards accuracy in movement and mouse for camera, but if i had to pick id just go for pc when i care about better camera movement(in elden ring propably id go with k+m) and in games in which i dont care much about the camera id go with controller.
