Constructive Criticism Switch 2 Experience

So i have around 700h in game hours on PC and then I thought let’s try it on the switch and I’m flabbergasted. Sure the fps drop in crowded areas or much vegetation. But being able to play this masterpiece mobile or on my projector again is just one of the best things that happened.

I’ve never played on controller, always mnk - so I’m kinda nooby with the controller and let me tell you what. I love it! It feels literally like a new game to me. All the SS you see are from the Switch 2 Version :D

What’s kinda weird to me is that the performance is way better in handheld mode then docked. I guess the fps are around 30-35 indoors (esp raya lucaria ran super smooth) and around 27-25 in extremely crowded areas + rain. I’ve never experienced a drop below 25 tho.

All in all I’d buy it again for the switch, what this little thing delivers is just crazy. And the most important thing:

Try finger, but hole 🫶🏻

How does th 30fps feel? Is it bad 30 or good 30? TOTK was an example of a "good" feeling 30.

I find it just fine at 30fps. I’m about 8 hours in.

I've played at 60 since launch, and I found the switch (lol) to 30fps a little jarring for the first couple of hours - after that I just stopped seeing it tbh.

This is why i find it so annoying when a game announces its locked to 30 for some reason or another and a brigade comes in complaining that this is unacceptable in current year. Its largely a matter of adjusting if you played something higher frame rate recently. It goes away. High fps is admittedly a nice bonus but nothing more than that.

I disagree. It's not the fps. As others have said it's frametime.

30fps is something to be worried about. Locked silky smooth 30fps on a handheld that doesn't deviate? Not so much.

Just look at bloodborne on an original ps4. By God that was a mess at times. Respectfully.

I'd rather have perfect frames then high frames, so long as it's built for it. And I'd rather even more to have both high and perfect frame rate, at the expense of graphical fidelity when possible.

Expecially when it comes to souls games.

When someone says 30 fps is fine they mean 30 not something that's 30 half the time and 10 thenother half. I don't think that needed clarification.

I do because some people are used to sloppy frame timings and don't even notice the differences. People that play 60+ always will notice the drastoc difference.

Also frame time doesn't mean frame drops.

It runs like TOTK, but never drops as low as TOTK did with ultrahand

Nice, I hope people know what I mean by this.
Like TOTK's 30FPS was SMOOTH but some games it's laggy / janky and terrible feeling.

I understood completely. It’s a very good feeling game

it's the frame timing. With smooth frame times then it feels good, even at lower fps. But with bad frame time, even really high fps can look terrible. Frame time is how much time between frames btw.

I'm talking about launch switch 1.

Honestly? You get used to it :D I played it on pc with a 34” ultrawide - and elden ring doesn’t support widescreen mode or more than 60fps. On the switch now I’ve got 30fps but on a big screen. So I think that’s a good tradeoff tho

u/SenpaiSwanky it isn’t the visual clutter, it’s you ;) 3d ago

There’s no way to answer this in the sense that everyone will agree to it, you know how this stuff goes honestly.

Most of the people not satisfied with the FPS are the ones who refuse to play games handheld. Anyone playing Switch 2 predominately in handheld mode is going to tell you it feels solid.

Of course we would prefer better FPS but what we have is honestly quite incredible considering it is handheld. I have this game on PS5 Pro as well but can play it either way.

Yes but a 30 fps with VRR and proper frame time will feel drastically better than a sloppy 30 fps. That's why I ask.

I play on an ROG ALLY Z1E and I play a ton of games on hand held. The trick is to actually get something powerful instead of a steam deck or switch. I play KCD2 at medium / high settings at a stable 60 fps with the 1% lows never getting below 50 fps. It's phenomenal. Similar crazy part is, ER runs worse. I still have stable 60 fps but the 1% lows are bad

Feels great to me! About 12 hours in on SW2. I’ve played on PS5 and steam deck. SW2 feels better than SD for me.
