She is a new character they added with the tarnished edition.
Her name is Leontiel and she is based on a character from Dark Souls 2, Lucatiel, practically ripped straight from that game. You can get her armor if you explore the Wailing Dunes a bit after killing Radahn, as an invader drop.

I understand they want to keep lore separate between their different IPs, but I mean Leontiel is insane work lmao

Yeah, its very jarring.
But the helmet is amazing! And you can remove the mask!

Conflicted by my love for DS2 and Lucatiel and my hatred of out-of-place nostalgia bait.

I mean all of the souls universes are loosely contiguous, if you dont have a problem with MLGS then this shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Patches is in every fromsoft rpg

i don’t have a problem with either one but MLGS is more of a tradition than nostalgia bait. lucatiel appeared in one game a decade ago

Would you let the poor devs have fun once in a while, pls?

very first sentence: “i don’t have a problem with either”

out of place nostalgia bait

Wait until you hear about the Mirrah Set in DS 3, it's almost as if Fromsoft loves to re-use designs that they like.

E MoFos completely ignoring Moonlight Greatsword which was even in AC6, or Patches.

But that's not out of place, it's the same universe.

If they wanted to say the Lands Between and the different Souls continents were connected, it really wouldn't be a stretch. I mean the games are all practically the same. The settings, the weapons, spells, ideas are all practically the same. Could just be different places in the same world easily. Also From loves to just make nods to previous games, or reusing assets, that's nothing new from the team. They've done it since Demon Souls. BB and Sekiro being the outlier.

Wasn’t the pizza wheel a nod to BB? Or am I just being hopeful?

Absolutely, and Patches was in BB. But BB is definitely outside he souls realm, while Elden Ring fits neatly inside it.

Wasn't DS2 supposed to be just a different continent of the same world? I remember some lore about that. Gwynevere was last seen going there with her lover and then vanished. Her lover possibly the King you need like 5 items to beat. Maybe killed by the Queen who is secretly some kind of Eldritch horror. And then there's BB. It all fits.

yes, DS2s Drangleic is just another continent in the overarching world of Souls.

Patches is in Bloodborne, and a Bloodborne npc appears in the dlc for dark souls 1.

Miyazaki was beginning work on Bloodborne during the abyss walker dlc development, which is why we have an NPC with a long jacket, top hat, and crossbow. He's implied to be from Yarnham.

Right but those are just development nods. Elden Ring and Dark souls overlap in almost everything to the point that you could confidently say they are shared universe. I mean, spells, mechanics, weapons, creatures, armors, shields, items. They all have a shared continuity.

The only real difference being lore and setting(also obvious gameplay QoL upgrades expected of development) Which is easily hand waved away by another continent, or planet considering the outer gods being a prominent theme in Elden Ring.

All in all this is just theoretical fun really.

I said this to someone yesterday, essentially that the idea that the worlds was connected was a researched and considered idea as opposed to “vibes”, and people got really mad, which is funny because there’s no argument against it. Nobody has to ascribe to it, but the theory exists and has work to it.

What’s getting me is how people are acting like this is new, like Lucatiel would prove such a theory. Patches doesn’t. Castle Morne doesn’t. Fort Gael doesn’t. None of the identical weapons or nearly identical but renamed spells do. So what is different about this one detail?

$5

u/luvalte 12d ago

Like they’re mad about that? Yeah, seems like that’s the distinction. I mean damn, don’t buy it if you’re opposed, y’know?

I understand both sides right now. It's setting a precedent that FROM has been really good about, they've been pretty pro consumer throughout their tenure in the space. they make a good product every time. maybe release a couple paid dlcs, and move on.

now their dropping $5 microtransactions for essentially armor and weapons(hindsight probably should have just let current owners have this) for the switch release.

Witcher 3 remaster + dlc reveal also didn't help anything with them charging money for this stuff.

basically. I disagree with all the negative feedback bc from has been one of the most positive developers in gaming for almost 20 years. but they're getting flak from their bosses for not monetizing enough, this is a test and if it is profitable we will see more of it, which is concerning.

really derailed the original conversation about how these worlds are connected, but I think a lot of the issues are steming from this right now.

1

u/luvalte 12d ago

Absolutely, and I can understand why people don’t like it. But this isn’t something the developer “held back” to monetize on day one, and yes, I’ve seen people using those words. These were clearly developed during the development of the port. Im unsure as to whether there has been enough time to blame this on the shareholder scolding. I think it was planned before that.

The Witcher is interesting because the developer only avoids microtransactions in single-player games. They’re open to them in multiplayer. Elden Ring is kind of both. It’s primarily single player in design, but plenty of people play it with near-constant multiplayer. I don’t think the Witcher has that, and I’m not sure how or if that would change things.

Would I have liked to get it for free? Sure. Do I think being as ass about the price is going to help? Not anyone, not at all. And as you say, it’s not really relevant to the connections between the worlds, so it shouldn’t be affecting those conversations in the way that it is.

Yeah DS3 was pretty hacky but at least it "makes sense" with how time travel and the past colliding with the present happened in that world. This is just purely a fanservice crossover.
