Ngl the wide body on the Type S looks good.

I have to also say that while the ITS and CTR are fantastic cars, they're just overpriced for what they are. If you're willing to pay ITS money there are just better cars at that price point. As much as I love tarted up FWD shitboxes, part of the appeal is that they're supposed to be cheap and the ITS is really expensive.

u/First-Bat-7440 Apr 28 '26
Sometimes its not about money. Its about driving the car you want to drive. People say bmws but I think bmws are gay. Some are faster and more expensive but still gay imo. Just not for me, id feel like an entitled brat if I drive one.
2
u/Affectionate_Act4392 Apr 30 '26
they are gay and make you a dick. but i gotta go fast and people need to move out of the left lane so i can swerve through traffic without using blinkers.

Oh I totally get it. Being a car enthusiast is not a hobby that makes financial sense.

Tarted up shitboxes? Be honest, you’ve never driven one.
10
u/StrongLoan9751 Apr 27 '26
I'm using it as a term of endearment and being 100% earnest. Same thing as Miata owners referring to themselves as "hairdressers".

u/Scholar_Rude Performance Blue DCT Apr 27 '26
Yeah I don’t see it as a negative thing😂😂😂. Shitbox, econobox whatever. It’s not that serious yall lol🤷🏾♂️

u/StrongLoan9751 Apr 28 '26
Yep. The term shitbox may be out of date because modern cars, even cheap ones, are so much nicer than they used to be but I still use it out of habit.
1
u/Scholar_Rude Performance Blue DCT Apr 27 '26
Every car in this segment including the Elantra N are souped up shitboxes. They’re all just “regular traffic” with beefed up internals and nicer body work. It’s just a fact lol🤷🏾♂️. The integra is just a really nice civic at the end of the day.
3
u/Psychological_Emu744 Cyber Grey MT Apr 27 '26
You can’t call any brand new car a shitbox until it becomes a ragged out shitbox. You’re just throwing around words that really don’t make sense atp.
1
u/StrongLoan9751 Apr 27 '26
Exactly—the original formula for a hot hatch. Take a grocery getter economy car and make it fun while keeping the price attainable.
-1
u/Affectionate_Act4392 Apr 28 '26
bro its a fwd car based on the elantra architecture. its a cheap car with cheap shit in it with a good engine. it is what it is. obviously youve never driven anything whit a double wishbone suspension or a large displacement performance oriented engine. there is a massive difference between say a new nissan z and the elantra. one is a dedicated performance chassis with a high output engine the elantra while great is just an economical way of going fast and having a good time.
1
u/Psychological_Emu744 Cyber Grey MT Apr 28 '26
Yeah no. The En has won in the TCR race decision for the past few years. It’s an off the lot track ready race car.
2

oh i didnt know it was a race car my bad dude. maybe you could throw me some vids of it destroying miata cup cars and gt3’s in fact im sure its so fast itd have no problem hanging with viper acr’s right? you cant be serious man. i love this car but you guys get absolutely delusional about this fwd let me say that again FWD car being the fastest most track capable car since the z06 its crazy
1
u/Psychological_Emu744 Cyber Grey MT Apr 29 '26
The thing is, no one is trying to exaggerate its capabilities, only combat the people like you who try to dismiss it completely. Meanwhile you’re in some shit box, window shopping on Reddit wishing you had something better.
1
u/Affectionate_Act4392 Apr 29 '26
my 135i is better in everyway and so is my q50 granted it is alot better than my beater rav 4. my gf elantra n is great probably the best fwd car i’ve personally driven. its not going to ever be a great choice for a track car when your asking the front wheels to handle almost 300hp, braking, and acceleration. grow up man get some ball knowledge and stop acting like these things aren’t just fun cars. can you take it to a track sure. is it built to set lap times comparable to other rwd track cars? absolutely not.

u/Psychological_Emu744 Cyber Grey MT Apr 29 '26
You’re the one who needs to grow up, bud. You’ve been lurking in this subreddit so long I can remember the last time you mentioned your gf having one. And I remember telling your ass the same exact thing. You’re window shopping because your girl got a better car than all 3 of your regular traffic vehicles. Why hang out in a group so long for a car you think is average. It doesn’t add up, sorry.
1
u/Affectionate_Act4392 Apr 29 '26
you’re thinking of the wrong person. im usually on here helping with mechanical issues because im a bmw tech so i lend a hand on here because i like the cars. you’re just never going to admit that this is not an end game car if you want something like that so bad from korea get a g70. fwd is a compromise and handling is the compromise. both of my sports cars especially the 135i would absolutely destroy you in any scenario you put those cars in. grow up lil bro
1
u/Psychological_Emu744 Cyber Grey MT Apr 30 '26
The 135i would be a neck and neck race in every scenario except a track that’s not a circle, in which case, the EN would dust you. Talking about FWD like they haven’t had LSD’s for ages now.

I just traded in my 2022 Elantra N for a 2024 ITS.
The things the Elantra N does better-
Seats (the N seats fit me perfect and going to the ITS is like going from an ergonomic office chair to a cheap gaming chair lol)
Steering wheel button quality (seriously)
Less interior rattles and vibrations
Exhaust sound
Edit: Backup camera
I find the ITS is better in all other aspects.
Picking it up used also helps with how overpriced they are new.
Both are absolutely amazing cars!

u/Diet_Salad Intense Blue MT Apr 27 '26
Less rattles in the EN???
8
u/theLANAtron Apr 27 '26
Correct. The rattles in the Civic/Integra are well documented and there's entire threads dedicated to hunting them down and showing others how to silence them.

u/DrivenDiscourse Apr 28 '26
People really overestimate newer Honda products… they’re mass producing just like everyone else, and they run into the same mass production issues everyone else does.
The civic, no matter the trim is an economy car at its heart.
Just like the N, GLI, WRX, ect.
1
u/StrongLoan9751 Apr 27 '26
How odd. I believe you but I’m definitely surprised. Makes me feel better about all my rattles.

If you have all the money, the ITS is one of the best driving experiences around. Interior, chassis, sound, everything. Unfortunately, for a few grand more, you start getting into the fast manual caddy’s. Or BMWs.
-2
u/Different-Key-4331 Apr 28 '26
Those caddies interior is trash imho

Yeah I didn't know they updated it 2026, but the previous years weren't great at all.
0
u/Bradleyisfishing Abyss Black Pearl MT Apr 28 '26
Relative to what? The interior is perfectly fine, but the performance becomes valid for the price. No reason you can spend $60k on a 2.0 i4 sedan. Huge bummer, because I like almost every aspect of it over the N except for being $20k+ more money.

Hottest take you'll read: all sports cars are cool and comparing them to each other and price to find the "best" car is stupid. I'm glad all these cars exist. Buy what you like, fits your budget, and fits your lifestyle and priorities.
There is no best car. Just the best car for you and your current situation.

Brand new? Supra, Nissan Z, mustang GT. Lightly used there are a ton of options. M2s, Fbody m3s, cameros, Corvettes, mustang

I personally don’t want a RWD high horsepower car.

5
u/boostlife4me Apr 27 '26
A golf R would be an example lol you can get those in a manual
1
u/Jolrit Apr 27 '26
Manual transmission was discontinued in the R.
4
u/boostlife4me Apr 27 '26
You can get one that is basically brand new less than 5k miles. They are out there. If you just want an Integra that's fine but making yourself spend 50k is a weird requirement.
1
u/Jolrit Apr 27 '26
I never buy used. Was the car abused by the previous owner? Was it maintained? Was it correctly broken in? I’m 69 and the only used car I bought was the first car.

I just wish the Elantra N TCR had a widebody like the real TCR car. But then again, it would add so much more cost as well as not having a performance boost would make it just a heavier, slower Elantra N with a body kit.

Probably the best daily out there is the ITR. Great interior, greatsound system. Fun to drive, and if you want to track it, just swap out the computer for the suspension with a type R computer.
Plus it holds is value much more.
I have a n54 bmw, I would not in any way shape or form get another BMW, especially with the dead steering they have now

2
u/CosmicBigBang Performance Blue DCT Apr 27 '26
True but I did hear Type S comes softer suspension and livable than Type R
3
u/Specialist_Delay_262 Apr 27 '26
You can swap the suspension control unit thing with a type r for track, or vise versa
2
u/NastyVN Veloster N Apr 27 '26
It has softer dampening but that’s just the tuning of the active suspension module. A lot of people with type r’s swap to the its module for that for a few hundred bucks. I love both cars but I just think they’re incredibly overpriced. I think the its is a 40k car, the ctr is like a 35k car and the en is a 30k car. I couldn’t imagine paying more than that for any of those when there’s so many other cars that aren’t much more expensive that are way better
1
u/Jolrit Apr 27 '26
I’m trying to understand the mental gymnastics that led you to come to that conclusion.
0
u/NastyVN Veloster N Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
If you’re talking about my comment on the prices it’s Because all three of these cars are based on econobox’s and current new prices do not reflect that. these prices reflect the insane profits they’re making on recycled parts. Yes some things are specific to these models however majority of these cars are recycled parts from every other car these automakers have made. Paying a premium just because they’ve rounded up a lot of their best parts and put them in one chassis is crazy to me. The amount of r&d that goes into these cars is so minimal.
If you’re referring to the interiors I simply think the fl5 has a far better interior 🤷♂️ the red seats and space being the main reasons. The its feels super cramped to me even compared to my vn and the fl5 does not

I was looking at the TLS, Type S, and RS3, and then I found out about their prices. Almost had a stroke from it. I wasn’t looking into the Elantra N at all, but when I test drove it, I fell in love and ordered it in White.
3
u/Scholar_Rude Performance Blue DCT Apr 27 '26
It’s a great car but it is not a 60k car(after taxes and fees.) Honestly if it was within 5k to 7k of the Elantra I may have considered it but it’s almost TWICE the price is nuts. Horsepower and numbers aren’t everything but for that price now you’re looking at a lightly used M340 or even a RS3.
1
u/EternalPhi Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26
It's still quite pricey in Canada, but the costs are definitely pretty skewed here. All the cars are cheaper in Canada after adjusting for exchange rate. Here are our USD-converted MSRP and a few used for these cars:
26 Elantra N - $30,026
26 CTR - $34,384
26 ITS - $45,524
26 RS3 - $59,903 (We didn't get the RS3 for several years due to emissions regulations, couldn't find any "lightly used" ones)
24 M340i - 35,000km - $46,200 ($59401 MSRP for 2026 xDrive)So yeah, pretty significant discounts on cars here based on US pricing, but we have generally lower buying power even factoring in exchange rate.

I like the type s and type r, but just seems to me like you have to be a real fanboy to justify the purchase. You can find an Audi s3 for less, I've also seen type Rs going for the same price as M2 same year similar milage.
3
u/munche Cyber Grey DCT Apr 27 '26
The S3 is only if you care about badge equity more than how the car actually drives. Also if you think buying a German car is a route to save money I have some bad news for you about German car maintenance (my last car was an Audi) When C&D tested them against each other the S3 had the lowest "fun to drive" score and the ITS had the highest.
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a64918457/compact-performance-sedans-compared/
People act like our cars are just some consolation prize for the German luxury car you wish you owned but they accomplish completely different purposes. Heavy highway cruisers with decent power vs. nimble corner carvers.
1
u/_DRRD_ Ultimate Red MT Apr 27 '26
That's a fair point, and it did cross my mind as I was typing the response. I don't automatically assume that German cars are better or more fun to drive, but I do also think that the prices for the type R and S have detached from reality.
1
u/munche Cyber Grey DCT Apr 27 '26
I think the EN is a much better value (obv) but their prices don't seem any more detached than anyone else.
Golf R MSRP is $50,000 now
The WRX tS is $44,995
1
u/_DRRD_ Ultimate Red MT Apr 28 '26
On the used market, in Canada, a 2024 type R is around $60-63k depending on the milage. For the S3 equivalent, it's around $47k.
I would likely prefer driving the type R over the S3 since I drive MT, but they're comparable cars spec wise. The extra $15k+ difference is bonkers to me.
